That doesn’t sound like any fun at all
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Publishers Weekly just came out with its listing of books scheduled to be released this fall and early winter by major publishing houses. Among the looming titles in its business section are:
“Game Over: How the Collapse in the Economy Will Sink Your Wealth by 50% or More Unless You Know What to Do” by Stephen Leeb, a market analyst who was one of the few back in 2006 who was predicting $4 gasoline.
“The Great Crash of 2010: How to Survive and Thrive in the Coming Hard Times,” by market analyst Harry S. Dent.
“Panic: The Study of Modern Financial Insecurity,” by Michael Lewis, author of “Moneyball” and “Liar’s Poker.”
“The Subprime Solution: How Today’s Global Financial Crisis Happened and What to Do About It,” by Yale economics professor Robert J. Shiller.
“The World is Curved: Hidden Dangers to the Global Economy,” by David Smick.
Anybody detect a theme in those titles?

Yes, Todd of MSNBC thinks whoever does best to address the economy is a sure winner this cycle.
And now for some good news:
“ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Iraq has proposed a short-term memorandum of understanding with the United States rather than trying to hammer through a formal agreement on the presence of U.S. forces, the country’s prime minister said Monday.
The Iraqi government proposed the memorandum after widespread Iraqi opposition to United States demands emerged during talks on a more formal Status of Forces Agreement. Some type of agreement is needed to keep U.S. troops in Iraq after a United Nations mandate expires at year’s end.
The proposed memorandum includes a formula for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, al-Maliki told several Arab ambassadors to the United Arab Emirates during a meeting Monday.
“The goal is to end the presence” of foreign troops, said al-Maliki.”
Thank you Mr. Maliki.

It means Harry Dent learned a rejected manuscript “The Great Crash of 2008,” can sell with a marketing savvy title change.

It sounds like everyone is trying to get what ever little money people might have left after buying gas, in the price of a book.

There aint gonna be no recession or depression or collapse of anything. Economic cycles are like global warming cycles. We are at the bottom of a slight downturn. Period.
The problem is that pundits need to sell their books and tv round tables. They have to say something.
The only thing we have to fear is self-fulfulling prophesies of doom broadcast by the talking heads on television or radio. (and other assorted nitwits.)

I don’t believe all this “Doom and Gloom” about the economy.
The Democrats SWORE in 2006 that THEY had a plan to reenergize America, to make it an economic juggernaut and to freeze or even lower gas prices . I’m sure the Democrats wouldn’t have LIED to us now would they.., so the economy must really be booming!

We musn’t try to find a scapegoat for our economic condition. Even thought it’s true that one man CAN make a difference for good or bad, we must accept that it took 300 million good men and women to accomplish this economy today.
There are only good people, that is, most people are mostly good, with just a little bad kept at bay by the majority of consciousness. Those that allow bad to happen in their minds soon change for the better and claim they are no longer the same person who committed the bad deed.
So we must ask ourselves how we can move forward together.

Demwit @ 1.38, kindly provide a cite to this proposed legislation to “reenergize America, to make it an economic juggernaut and to freeze or even lower gas prices”, which Bush apparently signed into law, which isn’t working out as planned.
You seem awfully upset about it, and I guess that’s why you forgot to provide this cite. Right?

the simple fact is that republicans don’t deserver a third term. they have failed at taking care of their own nation. it’s disgusting how they have abandoned New Orleans, DISGUSTING and UNAMERICAN. Cheney and Rumsfield did succeed at what their true agenda was to invade Iraq and cut taxes for the rich. vote for John McCain at your own peril, just disgusting.

So Winslo, to conclude: you don’t have any actual legislation passed by this Democratically-controlled Congress that you’d like to blame for a crappy economy and high gas prices.
You’re just whining (and citing some Kos diary from 2005, for reasons known only to you, apparently.)

It sounds like more of the hindsight is 20-20 theme to me. Who cares what all these “geniuses” think we need to do after the fact. Why didn’t the heads of all the financial companies see their own demise coming?

What has this Democratic-controlled Congress done for us over the past 2 years besides….,
fund the Iraq war
pass wire tapping laws
increase taxes, governemnt and government fees
spend all excess Social Security money
and pretty much whatever that so-called lame duck of a president wanted..

Righty, they did raise the minimum wage, passed a solid GI bill, and, well, a bunch of other things that aren’t as sexy as impeachment.
Granted, I’d liked to have seen Harriet Myers and Karl Rove in jail for contempt of Congress, and I sure would’ve liked to have seen the Iraq war de-funded, but there are just too many remaining Bush Dog Dems too afraid of upsetting their constituencies to do that, apparently.

Well the heads of all the financial companies got their golden parachutes and got to keep all their commissions. Maybe they saw their demise coming and didn’t care.
