McCain up 10 in Georgia?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Rasmussen Reports has posted results of its most recent Georgia poll, showing McCain up by 10 points over Obama, 53-43 percent. That’s a stark contrast with the recent Insider Advantage poll showing the two roughly equal in Georgia.
In other state polls, Rasmussen tends to report higher numbers for McCain than other pollsters produce. That doesn’t mean they’re wrong — in Georgia’s case, their numbers feel about right — but it’s a difference worth noting.
They also polled the Ga. Senate race, giving Chambliss a safe lead. Among Democrats, Jim Martin does best against Chambliss. Perhaps the most noteworthy result among the Democratic candidates is that Vernon Jones has a combined 60 percent unfavorable rating (somewhat unfavorable plus very unfavorable) and only a 27 percent combined favorable rating.
Part of that is surely due to the fact that he’s the only black candidate in the race. That does still matter in Georgia. But part of it’s also because he’s the only Vernon Jones in the race.

Vernon Jones is only electable in DeKalb County and only because he is black. he has nothing else to offer other than being black. You are surprised that McCain is up by 10 per cent over Obama in Georgia? Why? Come October the lead will be closer to 20 per cent, McCain on top. Silly wabbit.

Jay, This week-end was the first time that I have seen any adds for the Democratic Senate candidates - one for Jones and one for Martin. I hope we see lots more of them and at least mount a challenge to Chambliss.
I plan to vote AGAINST Chambliss and I’d like to find a reason to vote “for” a candidate instead of only voting “against” Chambliss. He is nothing but a Bush todie who supports him ALL of the time. I used to be a Republican and I still consider myself a conservative, but I cannot vote for anyone who so blindly supports all of the Bush blunders.

Bush isn’t on the ballot. Bush is leaving office. Bush will have nothing to do with the next congress. I don’t understand how Bush would factor into your vote on Chambliss.

The good thing about this 08 election is that if Bush wins, they we’ll know Diebold fixed it. You have to be so careful in Georgia. If McCain really does that well 53-43 then this is a dangerous place to be voicing your politics in public, what with all the NRA GOP, gun totin’ ask first shoot anyway yosemite sams walking around.

Bush is the best thing that ever happened to the Democratic Party. He has maligned the reputations of all conservatives with his disastrous presidency. On the other hand, very few Republicans had the guts to publicly distance themselves from W. They will be tainted, and rightly so.
Unfortunately, with a two party system, there are no mechanisms available to the voter for the failure of “their” party to act responsibly and with accountability. The only recourse is to vote for the “other side”, as a protest vote. That will happen millions of times, come November.

I watched a bit of the debate yesterday. Vernon was asked “other than being a fiscal conservative what makes you a conservative?” He then proceeded to tell us all the fiscally conservative things he’s done and never even marginally addressed the question.

Jim Martin will lay in the wake of Chambliss, as he has previously done with Casey Cagle and Kathy Cox. He just doesn’t have the “it,” factor, the proper party affiliation or financial backing to win in today’s Georgia.

Jay, it cuts the other way too. You’re looking at it from a “Rasmussen is more favorable…” perspective, while many see it as “Liberal media outlets sure are coming up with some numbers which are shockingly favoring Obama.”
Seriously, the national polls showing Barack up 15? Come on. Rasmussen is very well trusted by political operatives, and their numbers usually “feel” much more realistic than LA Times or CBS or whatever arguably biased source puts out.
Who knows where it actually is (middle probably, I think closer to Rasmussen’s), but I think you’re obligated to look at it from the unbiased perspective, as well.

JEFF…You write this “Bush isn’t on the ballot. Bush is leaving office. Bush will have nothing to do with the next congress. I don’t understand how Bush would factor into your vote on Chambliss.”
It has everything to do with how Bush factors in! First of all McCain will be the next Bush. And second of all it shows that Chambliss is nothing more than a yes man…No thought, no reason…what ever the party wants Chambliss is happy to provide.

Jay, surely you are jesting. Vernon Jones is down only because he is black and this is GA. I’m loving your humor today Jay — I’m loving it!!!
But just in case you’re not jesting let me ask. Could it be that Vernon Jones is down in the polls because GA voters do not want to send to Congress a “Bill Campbell type” who is just a sliiiiiiiimmmmmmyyyyy politician? Could it be that this fellow is so arrogant that folks inside and outside of Dekalb County who have heard of him find him annoying? Could it be that he is a bully who has a penchant for going off on folks especially females? Or could it be his “shady” dealings with certain preachers?
He’s black and that’s why he’s down in the polls — ha, ha, ha, he, he, he — Jay you are riot!!!!

Hmmm @ 1.54, not that hearing someone is a “socialist” makes me clutch my pearls and catch the vapors, but —
kindly cite examples of Obama’s positions that constitute a “socialist” approach to government.
Two or three will do. There’s a good lad/lass.

Ten percent up? Is that all? Hey when you live in the deep south I.E. Ga, Ms, Al, S.C. where the part time construction worker with the rebel flag on his beat up 30 year old pick-up votes against his/her best interest 100% of the time what does one expect?
Down here it’s all about GAYS, GUNS, and GOD…
Who cares if I have to live in a trailer, can’t afford to go to the dentist or doctor, can’t afford nothin’ but a Wendy’s burger every now and then. I’m not voting for one of them libs!
Check out a redneck bar and I’ll guarantee you they are either voting for McCain or not at all.

The media has completely run out of ideas about McCain and Obama. This election cycle is too long.
A bear is mauling this election cycle, if you think Wallstreet. Just like that poor girl who got mauled by a bear on a cycle. Actually the bear was on a unicycle and the girl was on a bicycle. The bear thought she was trying to take over his act. What a tragedy. All the bear wanted to do was tell her to “break a leg” and now there’s all this. The bear’s stunt double was shot by rangers after the mauling so the bad boy is still out there, waiting for some hapless bicyclist to wander by……oh the pedality.

No Marie, Vernon Jones is nothing like Bill Campbell.
That would be your boy Burrell Ellis that you are supporting and I might add Mr. Ellis is using Bill Campbell’s campaign manager and former chief of staff Kevin Ross.
Good Luck Vernon! But after watching the debate Sunday it doesn’t look like you need it.

You just got to love the way the kool-aide drinkers will blast a conservative or a redneck or anyone not on the Obama bandwagon but I dare them to tell me ONE SINGLE BLACK that they know personally who is not voting Obama. This is thinking out of the box? This is being diverse? Make them go to the same crap filled diversity classes that I have had to sit in at work that are subtitled ” More New and Exciting Ways to Kiss Black Butt”. Nobody is being anywhere in the ballpark as racial as blacks are with this election but still…they get a free pass. What a shock! Come on Dems…name me one of your black friends that are not voting Obama. Just one.

Us rednecks understand what it means to work hard and earn something. It may not be much but it is honorable and it make us proud to make what little we do make. Working hard and doing what it takes to support our family is what we were brought up to do. When people are brought up on government money they expect to get that money when they have a family as well. If you get government aid then you should be forced to give up your right to vote because all you are gonna do is vote for someone who is going to steal the money from a hard working American and give it to your own pathetic self!

McCain does well in places like West Virginia, Alabama, and Mississippi, places where STD rates are high, welfare rolls are long, and murder and incest rates are high.
It stands to reason McCain will be a winner for the losers that live in Georgia, too.

Reading Bookman reminds one of how bad America will be with a liberal in the White House. Therefore, Obama doesn’t have a prayer.

Jay Bookman writes: “Part of that is surely due to the fact that he’s the only black candidate in the race. That does still matter in Georgia.”
The clear inference is that Vernon Jones is somehow handicapped by the fact that he is black. I sure wish Cynthia McKinney had been similarly handicapped.

Dekalb Voter - I’m black and an Obama supporter because he is the best candidate for the job not because he’s black. By your reasoning then no blacks would ever vote for a white candidate. Blacks vote for white candidates all the time and nothing is ever said about it other than us typically leaning towards democrats. When a lot of us vote for a black candidate then there is a problem.
Why isn’t it a problem or a “race” issue when whites overwhelmingly vote for white candidates. Do you believe that many whites out there aren’t voting for a white candidate just because he’s white? Ohio and PA proved that happens a lot.
I won’t name all the black folks I know that didn’t and won’t vote for Obama, its not like you know them so why name them. But I will tell you that my sister, she’s black too ya know, voted for Hillary. Some of my black coworkers voted for Hillary. I know some black folks that will vote for McCain.
I think McCain is the best Repub candidate we’ve seen in years. Unfortunately this time around there’s a Dem I’m siding with over him. I’m proud of the fact that a black man is seriously being considered for the Presidency, but voting for him just because he’s black is not something I would do.
As far as Vernon Jones is concerned, coming froma former Dekalb County resident, I’m excited about him being in the Senate race because when I moved from Dekalb County years ago I no longer had the chance to vote against Vernon Jones.
Someone likened him to Bill Campbell. I like that comparison. I couldn’t stand Campbell because he was a crook and I can’t stand Vernon Jones for similar reasons.
I have to disagree w/ Jay, its not that he’s just black but he’s a terrible politician. The field of candidates is too big now for some just to vote against him because he’s black. If he were one of two candidates then year that would come in to play with some voters but with this many candidates he’s gonna lose because he sucks!
