The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I see that Senate Republicans have re-introduced the federal Marriage Protection Amendment, a proposed constitutional amendment that seeks to defend marriage by limiting it to a pact between a man and a woman.
I also see that Sen. David Vitter, a married man and patron of prostitutes in Louisiana and Washington, and Sen. Larry Craig, the married lavatorial tap-dancer (good acoustics with all that tile, you know) are listed as two of its prime sponsors.
The capacity of some people for self-embarrassment is astonishing. (h/t The Carpetbagger Report).

Now Jay, Larry Craig and David Vitter are just a couple of ordinary GOP Joes. Larry’s not gay, he said so, he’s just a guy who likes to have anonymous sex with other men over a toilet. And Vitter - lots of ordinary GOP Joes would pay good money to have prostitutes diaper them, if they just had the cash - what’s the problem?
Craig and Vitter are very typical of Republican husbands all over the country, they represent mainstream GOP “family values” and they are exemplary GOP leaders.

The only question I have is why is this amendment just limited gay marriage?
Its obvious the homosexuals have infiltrated other American institutions such as pro football. The homosexuals have turned prime time football watching into one big homosexual porn fest. Its disgusting.
In a few short months we will once again be subjected to the likes of that Tom Brady being paraded around televisions all across America practicably nude.
I have been watching Tom Brady play and can’t get over how tight those uniform pants are. His pants leave nothing to the imagination. Other teams are just as bad, those Florida State uniform pants are skin colored for God’s sake and very very tight.
Its gotten to the point where the networks need to fuzz out the rear ends of players, its really disgusting. Another idea would be to have the players wear velcro skirts attached around their waists.
When Tom Brady wears those white tight uniform pants it gets down right distracting. I become fixated on Tom Brady’s butt knowing that the homosexual recruiters have made this subliminal message possible.
Oh my God, throw in High Def and it really gets me hot. I get so angry. These new DVR’s also allow one to slow down key players and watch them over and over again.
I have been in contact with Larry Craig’s (Republican) office to see if we can amend this amendment to further protect our children and force the networks to follow the decency standards. He has promised a thorough investigation.
I’ll keep everyone posted.

Dear Jay,
Why isn’t the news media, including your publication, devoting more attention to the true condition of the federal government’s finances?
The nonpartisan Peter G. Peterson Foundation recently published a primer titled “The State of the Union’s Finances”. It’s shocking to see what poor shape the government is really in. Every man, woman and child in this country currently carries a burden of $175,000, and there’s a real leadership void among the ranks of officials who are in a position to do something about it.
This new publication can be found at www.pgpf.org. I hope your editorial board and staff will read it and start asking our elected officials and candidates for office what they plan to do to put the country on a more prudent fiscal path.
It’s time to stop digging our fiscal hole deeper and start figuring out how we are going to get out of it. Please have your publication devote more attention to this issue. Our future is worth covering — not just our present.
Sincerely yours,
Jerry Schomaker

It’s interesting that while the media is so focused on the presidential race, the Senate GOP is moving forward on this amendment. Where are the headlines? I read the AJC online daily and only now find out about it via Jay Bookman. Little wonder there is such distrust in our government when our legislature pursues such terrible discrimination. Shame on the U.S.! So little to celebrate on July 4th.

I find it humorous that people who are so proud of their sexuality that they hold parades in it’s honor, would be satisfied with something as mundane as marriage. It seems such a wasted ending for something they think so grand.

Sen. Craig’s support of this new legislation, which will strengthen the holy sacrament of matrimony, should put to rest any notions of expanding the legal definition of marriage to include abominations like gay marriage, or being married to your work, as in sheep herding.
Sen. Craig’s reputation as a stallwart GOP stall wort preceeds him, and should rally our constituency toward a more righteous horizon, where the missionary position will once again be considered as doing the christian nasty or the holy dirty deed or the theo-thang, and thus, sodomy, as defined by the lick-lick-lick-lick-it-like-a-lollipop-guild will be relegated to the spandexed suburbs of soccor mom prescription drug abuse where it belongs.
Hey, that’s no drug addict, that’s my wife. D’oh! (Homer simpson, 1985-2008). I never knew cheating like that was possible….I cant get those dirty pictures out of my head…it represents everything I hate….(kirk douglas, 1950)

Well, you can call it anything you want, but a union between two gays is not “marriage”. It dilutes the meaning of the word to expand it to include other applications.
You wouldn’t call your mother your father! You wouldn’t call a dog a cat. Then for goodness sakes, why would you change the definition of the word marriage?
You can call it anything you want—but a union of gays is NOT a marriage.

So conservatism isn’t dead? You mean there’s a chance this legislation will pass in the wee hours when everyone is home sleeping with each other?
So Sen. Craig was only pretending to play taps, with his flag at half mast, at the phony funeral for conservatism, which was pronounced sincerely dead by the lick-it-like-a-lollipop-guild in the porn version of the Wiz, (2008, playboy productions, all rights reserved).
Seriously, folks, my gay brother once claimed that the scarecrow in the original wizard of oz promoted homosexuality because the scene in which he gives directions to Dorothy he says, “You could go that way, or this way, of course some people go both ways”. Then he crosses his arms pointing left and right.
Folks, you gotta be looking for gay messages if you see a gay theme in the Wizard of Oz. (Yes, I know there’s flying monkeys in the movie).
Maybe Sen. Craig is right. Maybe hypocrisy is our only virtue. Maybe we should punish others for our sins. Yes, I see it now. “Mea Culpa. Mea Culpa. May a pox be on your houses!”

Justy Nasty and Mean, perhaps, you are right. I myself don’t think the state should be in the marriage business, since marriage is a sacrament - which means it is something you do in a church, or temple. So, as far as I am concerned, civil unions are the only thing that are the state’s business, and equal rights for everyone means that people should be allowed to choose their partners however they want to choose them.
But I’ll indulge your religious fantasies here - one could more easily argue that a ‘union’ between a man and a woman where the man would rather hang out with other guys in public toilets having sex, or with other women that diaper him, is not really a marriage either, more in fact like an abomination as those crazy fundamnentalists like to call it…

In a show of solidarity, many Americans are adding the name,Hussein,to their middle name to show support for Obama. How very quaint.
In a stunning political upset,Robert Mugabe has been sworn in for a sixth term as President of Zimbabwe.
Should one think about Senator Larry Craig for any length of time, one may actually want to resign from the planet.I can’t believe he’s the same species.Maybe he’s a Klingon.
How would you like to be Mrs.Craig?

So the tap-dancing bathroom-pleaser wants to ban gay marriage. Hmm, what a surprise. I think in his head he thinks that if he can appear to be so against Gays, he can’t possibly be one.
Hmm, “Methinks the gentleman dost protest too much”
Also, the word marriage has already been changed in our society. We have “open-marriage” - lets sleep with anyone else and we are cool with it, “common-law marriage” - why get married, lets just live together like a married couple forever, “marriage of convienence”, “unhappy marriage,” etc, etc. So for those of you who think that Gay marriage will change the meaning, it’s simply not true. I challange you that most gay monogamous couples are more respecting of their “forsaking all others, till death” vows than their heterosexual counterparts.
Marriage should be for people who love each other period. Man and woman do not always make a “true” marriage.
