We’re racist, doncha know?

From a commenter about our endorsement of Jim Martin over Vernon Jones as the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate:

“Why does the AJC repeatedly insult the intelligence of African-Americans? Folks don’t be blind to this blatant racism portrayed by the AJC and it’s writers such as Mr. Bookman. Vernon Jones is a threat to the “good ole boys” so rather than talk about the accomplishments he achieved for DeKalb County, you’d rather make personal attacks.

What is Jim Martin really known for? Besides losing the Lt. Governor’s seat—boy that’s one strong candidate. Perhaps Mr. Jones voted for Bush because he was tired of the poor choices (ie losers) the Democratic Party continued to pick to represent us. Jim Martin doesn’t bring any more credit to our party or our state than Dale Cardwell did by climbing a tower—idiot. His only credibility is the fact that he’s White and the so called “stronger” pick of the White candidates. I guess if Martin hadn’t stepped into the race, you would have endorsed the software salesman. It’s a sad day in Georgia when people still have this ignorant mentality in the year 2008. An African-American can represent our state (and our country) just as well as a White person. What are you afraid of? Free your minds people! Vernon Jones for U.S. Senate!”

The funny thing is, it was sent from a DeKalb County government computer….

I think that Vernon Jones is entitled to his loyal voter base. They just need to be loyal on their own dime. Of course, that’s just my opinion. That is unless he wants to hire me and pay me to support him. I used to work for a small city government. We were given very strict guidelines regarding our support for anyone seeking public office. It just comes with the territory. Potential conflict of interest and other concerns, dontcha know. I don’t think that some people think about such things before they speak though. Their minds are probably too focused on that one burning thought that got them all fired up in the first place. Then again, it is so much easier to react than to respond — unless you determine that your best response is to react.

The true ignorance here is throwing the “racism” word around and not knowing what it means (look it up!). I can be prejudiced and bigoted without being a racist.

Let me give you a good example maybe even simple minds can understand. As a UGA graduate, I am prejudiced and bigoted concerning Auburn fans but in my heart of hearts I know they are in reality just as good a human being as I am especailly in God’s eyes.

So there. Can we get away from this racism drivel and move on to something else?

Ok, I give up, Jay: why is it funny that Vernon Jones would have access to the Internet and monitor your blog and comment on it semi-anonymously? More sad than funny, really.

It’s always great when liberals get a dose of their own medicine. You Dems cried phony racism so much over the years its just such a real treat to see it getting dished back to you.

Which reminds me of another reason I don’t want Obama for president…I don’t feel like being called a racist every time I criticize one of his policies.

Byteman @9:58

By golly, bitiByte, you are correct. When at WORK, why not have a productive day with blogs on the government owned comoputer?? I think Vernon should have that on his “plank”: MORE PLAY TIME AT WORK!!!

Well, I’m sure glad that the human population in the US does not consist of the Republican and Democrat “races”. If it did, nearly half of us (voting) Americans would be deemed racist (based on the last several presidential races), by one “race” or the other, and rightfully so. It’s good to be Independent of “race”. Besides, can you just imagine having Republican and Democrat restrooms. What would the rest of us do.

Dusty: I’m guessing that Vernon does have that statement as part of his Senate plank… he’s just not letting us see all of it. Also this: “Raise enough money starting on day one as a US Senator to get re-elected and have some leftover money to upgrade my lifestyle.”

Being a Senator is a good job if you can take the personal pounding and have enough suits to wear.

James, good point. I agree that the term racism is overused, and that used accurately represents a mindset of superiority vs. inferiority.

I don’t believe that most cries of racism are accurate to the term, and I also believe that the incidents of occurrence are on the decline. Been a long time coming, and it aint’ over yet.

Must admit though, your admission of being a UGA graduate does certainly cast you in the intellectual inferiority spectrum. God still loves you.

If only those UGA grads could have seen the light and attended Georgia Tech. Then again, they never would have survived the more intellectually demanding curriculum. After all, there would be no need for a UGA if they could. It’s a good thing “UGA” and “GaT” are not races. Of course, simple-minded people could never understand such a thought, could they.

Sometimes, I think that there’s no need to distinguish between “racism” or “bigotry” or other equally disgusting mindsets. Then again, my thoughts could just be a consequence of my own predilection for the sciences. But, how would I know.

To TechGrad:

You distinguish between degrees of thought or action from “racism” to just telling “inappropirate jokes” for the same reason we have laws regarding “involuntary manslaughter” all the way up to “murder in the first degree” - there’s a difference. You SHOULD just stick to science - I guess that’s why you went to Tech.

Why James, what ever made you think that I was directing a comment at you. I was clearly referring to two distinct groups. And, what compelled you to respond with thoughts of murder and manslaughter. Such harshness. Perhaps you should seek to better understand the underlying motivations for such things as bigotry, prejudice and even racism — or, not. Besides, talks about racism may be tough but they are hardly “drivel” and who are you to define anything I say as “inappropriate” especially after your own little outburst. If you keep it up, I might start thinking that you are just being “simple-minded” versus open-minded. What did they teach you at THAT school anyway. (<- Note the lack of a question mark. It has significance.)

Dear TechGrad:

Alas, I guess you cut class the day they covered hyperbole ………. oh well, do you still have your sliderule?

P.S. From yesterday’s AJC “Vent” just in case you missed it.

If Tech wants to keep recruiting in-state they had better come up with a new “crip” major entitled “The BBQ History of Georgia”.

We finally have a candidate who ought to go to Deecee as our senator. And the replacement of Saxby would be a godsend. Chambliss has done nothing but weasel and cower—-remember his trying to justify illegal farm labor in south Georgia to please his Moultrie friends? Or his Cargill, ADM, and similar supporters? What a bust!!! But Jim Martin is not a chickenhawk like Saxby and the elephantine and democratic leadership. He is an honest man and not some pusillanimous p** who condescends to talk with you (unless you have money or can do something for him.)
Martin always was a consensus-builder in the legislature. He lost the light gov’s race because fools looked at party label and not brains. So now we have Casey Cagle. Lucky us (and how embarassing.) Martin has brains and courage. He won’t tell you something just to suck up to you. Then there is Vernon.

Vernon Jones is a fine fellow…but his peccadillos are too numerous to ignore. The county is in financial disarray and any community that can opt out is opting out.

And he needs to keep his britches on.

And remember that this is a man who laughs when someone asks about a simple task like synching the traffic lights (and saving us all gasoline and time). Then we have a group of wannabees who no one knows and no one cares about ‘cept their mommas.

Racist? The AJC? You have to be kidding. Vacuous? Unrespected? Written at the level of third graders in a state where eighth graders can’t read. That is more like it.

James,

Are you trying to make light of Georgia Barbecue. Tell me you are not. Do you have any idea how much engineering effort was needed to achieve the ultimate sauce. That would be the golden yellow sauce applied to the freshly blackened meat — not that red stuff only fit for a dawg. By the way, I saved my slide rule for many years after purchasing my first calculator. As I recall, it was around $300.00 back then for something that sells for under ten bucks now even when equipped with “solar” power. You UGA grads would still be scribbling with a quill were it not for those of us with a mind to do more. It’s simple, really.

To Tech Grad:

Now that more like it. That’s what I mean by hyperbole. I knew I could get you to lighten up. By the way, I still have my K&E in mint condition (Tenn. Tech. 1965 - couldn’t hack the math…….. :o)

You certainly got me there, James. I should have known that you would catch me on that $300.00 price tag. After all, that was a stretch for any poor southern boy’s budget back then. Now, if it’s hyperbolic functions you’ve taken a liking to, I would suggest hanging around by a suspended cable. That’s not the same as a suspense movie — I know how you UGA grads like to get the two confused. Of course, you can always go parabolic if you’re willing to settle for a crude approximation. I hear Dish Network has some good deals.

I’m glad to be able to bring a little happiness into your life, Mister NorthernTransplant. Transcripts are available free of charge — just cut-n-paste. After all, the topic was starting to warm up things a bit much for some heat pumps on a hot summer day, right Darryl. Right, Darryl. Right, Larry. Right, Darryl. Right, Larry. Right Darryl. (Wait a minute. How is this conversation even possible. Any thoughts, anyone.) However, I hardly see a need to start tossing out viewpoints of such limited perspective — there are just as many “northern hicks” as there are “southern hicks”, dontcha know. There might even be a few up in Vermont. Can you enlighten this here southern hick, Mister NorthernTransplant Sir, and tell me what episode Darryl and Darryl were fightn’ in a pigpen in? I’d like to check it out first-hand and see if it’s as good as you make it out to be. Y’all have a good day now, ya hear.

The bloggers are sleeping,

Obama is creeping,

McCain is home reading a book.

When election time comes,

VOTE, and go beat the drums,

Or you’ll cry about how you got took.

PREDICTION: By election day, the Falcons will already be out of it (sort of like the Braves are already), the Tekkies will be too, and the DAWGS WILL RULE!

I’m so tired…….
