“Can Georgia Be Obama’s Ohio?”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
That’s the headline of a new piece in Time magazine.
“In briefings last week with former Hillary Clinton supporters, Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, said he is focusing on Georgia and Virginia as potential swing states and, depending on the outcomes of voter registration drives, he’s also keeping an eye on Mississippi and Louisiana. In Georgia, the Obama campaign has wasted no time, launching massive voter registration drives before the primaries had even ended….. Obama has 15 full-time paid staffers who have been in Georgia for over a month.”
The crux of the Obama strategy is to make Georgia competitive by significantly increasing black turnout. If he succeeds, that would also make the Democrats competitive in other races here, such as the U.S. Senate.

Jay - He has a shot to win GA not just because of the Black vote, but the guy is really able to attract people from all ethnicities including independents. Also, too many people are tired of the Republicans.
We gave them the executive, they failed us. We gave them the house and senate, they failed us.
It seems to me Obama can pull a surprise in GA, and really a few other traditionally “red southern” states.

No matter who wins the Presidency there’s no way Obama will carry Georgia.

Georgia will be Obama’s Ohio - he’ll lose both. Not withstanding Oh Jay’s endorsement, this guy couldn’t get hired at a $75,000 per year job - unless it was through political patronage of the kind that has the newly proud one earning $300k not withstanding he otherwise lackluster career.

I doubt Obama can carry Georgia. There is still too much of an ethical presence of self reliance and accountability in most Georgians.
Eventually these hold-outs of industriousness will come around to see the clear advantages of higher taxes and bigger government and will get in line for their handout, just like all the rest. And we can change our state motto to “Mediocrity on my Mind”.

Obama will will the election, but he has zero shot in Georgia…a state where the average voter believes Iraq attacked us on 9/11, the media hates America, and Neal Boortz is an economic genius.

Yeah, it could be close.
As the linked article points out, Bob Barr’s candidacy has a fair amount to do with this, but then so does a newly invigorated and motivated African-American population.
I mean, do the math. Nearly a third of the population is black. Factor in a boatload of transplants who may not have bothered to register to vote, but who may be motivated to do so, and a lot of Democratic voters who’ve had little to rally behind of late, and it really isn’t all that farfetched.

Wild Bill,
With a BA from Columbia and a Harvard Law Degree I do believe he could get a salary of 75,000 a year. He personal income is not my business, but I would put money on the fact that he makes more than a ignorant, internet blogging, cowboy wanna-be from Georgia.
He was also editor of the Harvard Law Review.
He has my white, female, upper income vote. And no, I did not vote for Hilliary.

Well, what do ya’ know? Now a degree from Harvard means something? How about Harvard and Yale?
President Bush has both. He has also led our country through a terrorist attack, kept us safe now for years, and freed two countries from dictators.
So what do we get from Democrats? Pure hate in every guise possible and now starting the hate campaign against McCain.
Then you want to praise Obama ‘cause he went to Harvard and has about two cents worth of experience. Oh yes, he makes a good speech, ‘specially with a teleprompter. His choice of friends is enough to make the FBI jump. But nevermind, he went to Harvard!!
I hope you Dems are proud of your ability to smear America. You’re doing a great job…for our enemies.

Do you people not understand that when you come from one of the most influential, and politically connected families in the country, a degree or degrees can be easily purchased (through endowments). Obama comes from nothing, his family could’ve scarcely affforded lunch at an Ivy league school, my money says he earned his credits.

The only reason you survive as free Americans is because our Commander In Chief has led the battle against terrorists while you were basking in the sun and our military was fighting in the hot desert. You can kiss my foot while lady liberty kicks your liberal libretto.

What attributes does McKlan bring to the table to make him such a great candidate for President of the USA?

Georgia is a hard red state. Because Georgia is a hard GOP state, this means we will not see of hear from any presidential candidates this year.

McCain brings long experience in military bravery, government in the US Congress and has exhibited with honor a great LOVE for America. Your candidate has little or nothing along those lines.

I saw McCain doing a press conference the other day…I about fell asleep standing up. He may be able to string a sentence together (unlike Bush), but its hard to imagine anyone getting really excited about him. On the other hand, there are thousands of unregistered black voters in GA who will do whatever it takes to vote for Obama. Ya never know!

One such attribute McCain has is experience, precisely leadership experience.
Nobody ever got the CEO job based solely upon how well they communicated in the interview. Somewhere back on the resume there were provable results.
He’s never taken earmark funding on any bill since he’s been in government. Obama has already taken 122MM in two years.
Ultimately McCain’s biggest attribute is that he doesn’t believe in big, expensive, or intrusive government. He believe’s in the industry, accountability, and responsibility of the individual.

How about a link to back up that assertion? How do we know, since earmarks aren’t publicly assigned to lawmakers? So Arizona doesn’t get earmarks? I’d fire my Senator if he turned down large projects that would benefit my state.

Who needs exciting in a President. That’s why we have sports and entertainment dude. Is your life and self esteem so vapid that you’re looking for a Federal Governmen leader to fill the void. Quit worrying about what other people think of you and swing for the fences.
And don’t forget those dead black voters in GA. Come “deliver the vote” time, they’ll be rising from the grave, breath mints, picture id’s and all.

Lawmakers sign bills with earmarks on them. We can tell who they were by their signature. McCain has never signed such a bill, because he doesn’t belive the goverment should be taking taxpayer money and allowing self serving legislators to spend it in order to boost their re-election chances. It’s called integrity.

Let’s get something straight, I never said Obama is my candidate of choice. As for McKlan, going to war does not make one a brave leader. If that was true, then any GI Joe would be qualified. Right!

Flyng planes off an aircraft carrier requires bravery. Flying fighter planes over anti-aircraft activity requires bravery. Staying loyal while in a POW camp for several years takes bravery. All of that is in McCain’s past including long years in the Congress of the USA.
I think our GIs are very brave. That ALONE does not make one suitable for President of the USA. But I think along with other attributes, the President can understand military action BETTER if he knows and has experienced service in the military.
Bye now. Off to dinner..

I am a little confused here by one of your statements. You said” I think our GIs are very brave. That ALONE does not make one suitable for President of the USA. But I think along with other attributes, the President can understand military action BETTER if he knows and has experienced service in the military”.
No real military experience for Gubber Bush, but in order for Obama to be effective as president he should have military experience. Our current administration proves this to be false. Evryone is different, what’s good for the goose is not ALWAYS good for the gander.
