Well, maybe my nagging feeling was wrong…

A number of signs compiled by the LA Times now suggest that Hillary may pull the plug tomorrow night:

“First, Hillary Clinton announced this morning that she’ll spend Tuesday evening in New York, the city that never sleeps and that she represents in the U.S. Senate. Not in Montana or South Dakota, where people are voting, but New York City. Second, Bill Clinton told folks in South Dakota this morning that “this may be the last day I’m ever involved in a campaign of this kind. I thought I was out of politics, till Hillary decided to run. But it has been one of the greatest honors of my life to go around and campaign for her for president.” Third, the folks at Politico report that Mo Elleithee, a Clinton spokesman, tells them that “we just haven’t figured out our schedule past Tuesday,” so many members of the advance team are being sent home. (UPDATE: A fourth factoid, Tom Edsall reports over on Huffington Post that Clinton has taken the “unusual move” of summoning “top donors and backers to attend her speech.”)”

She’s done - she needs to go home. I’ve never liked Hillary much and I’ve liked her less and less with each passing day. She’s been beat for a while now, but she just can’t face it.

Hillary would make a great VP.

And Prez too.

Obama landslide in the fall.

McCain doesn’t have a chinaman’s chance to win anything. That guy just doesn’t have “it”.

Does he? He’s forgettable. If you dont see him every minute of every day, he disappears from your mind. If you do see him every minute of every day, he disappears from you mind.

He’s just not with it.

I really get excited when I think about an OBAMA/CLINTON ticket.

It’s a beautiful thing to contemplate. Really, what a two-headed monster for justice THAT would be!!!

These indicators could just as easily be interpreted to mean that she’s raising money for and planning her campaign for the, as Howard Wolfson called it, “superdelegate primary”.

On the other hand, there was one indicator that I found persuasive in the other direction, and that was that Clinton had a telephone conversation with Obama last night. Assuming that such conversations on primary election days are unusual, this could mean something.

As for the other signs…they don’t increase my comfort level very much.

Following up on my previous post, regarding last night’s phone conversation, an Obama spokesperson said: “He called to congratulate her on her victory in Puerto Rico, that’s it.”

I hope I’m wrong, but I still have that nagging feeling.

You people that think Obama will win in the fall are idiots, as well as no students of history. The last time America had a very unpopular ‘wartime President’ running for re-election against such a severely left wing Democrat, was Richard Nixon vs George McGovern in 1972. The socialist media, mostly print media back then, had been claiming the race was going to be too close to call, at least from their wishful thinking point of view. It end result was (before the horrendously incompetent Jimmy Carter vs Ronald Reagan) up to then, the most lopsided election in American history. Do any of you leftists remember who won??? Duh…

The last time America went brain dead and elected as President a person so completely unfit and incapable of handling the job, we got Jimmy Carter. You youngsters don’t know about the ravages of 23% ANNUAL inflation rates to your wallet (makes these gas price hikes minuscule by comparison), REAL gas lines, a military stripped to the bone so lean that the National Guard looked like Green Berets in comparison, Europe and the rest of the world laughing out loud at our leader of the free world. I know these things because you obviously haven’t read your history books, and cannot comprehend what having a truly incompetent person as your President can do to your country, and therefore support an unelectable show pony like Obama. A wise man though did say once, and I paraphrase, “If you are not liberal when you are young, you have no heart. If you are liberal when you are older, you have no brain.” Enjoy your stupidity; it can be fun to be dumb, because no one expects anything from you.

The last time we had an idiot war time president is now; George Jr. has brought America to the lowest point since the depression in the 1930’s, gotten alot of soldiers killed and wounded and historians now say his presidency is failed and a majority also say it is the worst in history. The trillions of dollars that will be spent on jr.’s war and the survivors, means that those dollars will not beavailable to be spent on schools, cancer and other disease research and improving our lives here and around the world.

It is about time. Because each time she whines the rules were changed to please her. First she said the winner should be decided by the popular vote. Obama started winning, then she said it should be decided by the Super Delegates. We never heard of them until this election. Now she is losing she is talking about the popular vote again. She complained how Obama got to answer the first question. If this is the end we are really gonna see white women go off on the deep end tonight. She doesn’t need to be VP because I would trust her. She will be telling Bill everything that Obama is doing.

I need to ask those of you who support Senator Obama the following question. Senator Obama talks about change. If he becomes President, what are we changing to? If you feel compelled to reply to this question by saying we are changing from Bush, don’t waste your time. That is an intellectually lazy answer. Tell me what President Obama will do.

Senator Obama says he will provide a national health plan in his first 100 days that will be as good as what members of Congress have. Those of you who support this notion, are you willing to have this plan if it means increasing your taxes by say 20%? And don’t tell me that it by finding savings in present health care spending; that assumes a fiscal discipline not exhibited in either congressional Democrats or Republicans.

I do think this will be the last night we have both excellent choices running for President in the Democratic Party. As a Hillary supporter, because she has the experience, she has the wisdom, she has the tenacity, and she has the balls to get this country moving, I am saddened but very proud of how she stayed in this race. She didn’t back down from republicans, from back room cigar smoking white men, or from the wealthy. She ran her campaign and gave it her best fight. She has nothing to be ashamed of and still has an enormous amount to offer this country. She has always fought for the downtrodden and she still will. McCain will not win this because he can’t. He is too old, too much like Bush, and republican. This country is tired of the rhetoric the republicans have handed us the last 7 years and more is coming out daily on how this counrty was lied to by the republicans. It will take them a long time to recover. I do hope the democrats learned valuable lessons from them on how not to act and move this country forward by extending the olive branch once again to the conservatives. And if the conserviatives continue to be the problem instead of joining with us to resolves the problems, they will find themselves extinct.

So kevin, what do we do? Continue to let the elderly choose between food and their health care? Or maybe continue our high death rate of babies, the highest percentage in the modern era of any modernized nation. Or maybe we can just continue to turn away the sick and injured because they have no insurance. Middle class famalies are suffering severely for this reason, no health care insurance. Let’s at least let someone try to fix the problem.

In fact, you can sue if they turn you away.. Now if you were to travel over to England and brake you leg, you will also be able to wait, and wait, and wait, for service in their NHS. While I am a Clinton supporter, I am not one who is adamant that she MUST be on the Democratic ticket this fall. However, I’m curious about something. For those Obama supporters here who are adamant that she should not be on the ticket, what would your position have been if the primary season had turned out differently (i.e. Clinton winning and having to consider Obama as VP)? My guess is that you would be demanding him a shot as running mate. Just keep in mind that 17 million people voted for Clinton and those voters are just as invested in this nation’s future as you are.

In the beginning I was strictly for Hillary. I never considered Obama. I liked Hillary and then Edwards. It wasn’t until maybe the 6th or 7th debate that I started listening to Obama, and that was only because of all the spin I heard on what he really said. And from that, to me, he came out on top and Edwards, not Hillary right there at the top. I think Edwards should be his running mate, not Hillary. I wouldn’t want Obama anywhere near Hillary for any reasons.

McCain wins easily this fall. The smoke and mirrors from Obama The Magician will cease and the truth will be heard: That he is an anti-american liberal senator with no experience and likes to yell “Change” alot. While McCain is a decorated war hero, who does not bow to beltway politics or corporations(Obama is FAR outraising McCain from big corporations). The choice is easy…

,

if the situation were reversed and Obama had stooped to the tactics she has then I would absolutely say she would be justified in not offering it to him. that said her picking him has always made more sense than him picking her - until recently he had almost no negatives wheras she (right or wrong/like it or not) has always had about as many people dispise her as she does kool-aid drinkers. in other words, he would have been a huge net gain for her in the general while she is probably not much above breakeven (again, key word being NET). that said he pretty much has to at least offer it now since breaking even is still was better than pouring gasoline on a 17 million torch-wielding mob…

Good comments, Jack. I have been in health care for almost 30 years so let me address your points. The elderly do not have to choose between food and health care. There is Medicare. With the number of free clinics supported by hospitals as well as public health clinics, no woman regardless of econcomic status has to do without prenatal care. But they have to go at the beginning of their pregnancy and not wait until they are ready to deliver. And no hospital turns away those uninsured patients who are sick and in need of attention.

The system is not perfect and can be improved. But if we allow the government to assume more responsibility our level of quality will fall not increase. Every year, a hospital has to fill out a very complicated 180 page cost report and we have not been reimbursed costs in 25 years. That is government at work.

The uninsured can be addressed through pools of insurance that can be accessed by health care providors for uninusred or underinsured patients. The taxes on tobacco could address this easily but we would have to focibly remove our politician’s death grip on the public purse to accomplish this.

If Obama wins the nomination, it will be because of the media attacks on Clinton, which have been underway for the past 16 or so years.

Also, if he doesn’t offer her the VP slot, he’ll never win the election in November. Of course, she probably won’t accept but he has to offer it to her. He can’t win without her supporters and they won’t back him unless he offers her the job.

McCain has to be praying that Obama chooses another VP, because then the presidency is his for the taking.

By Jack

June 3, 2008 3:30 PM | Link to this

Hillary should have ended the campaign months ago. She simply hoped for a “moment” that would end Obama’s campaign.

Why she should not be the VP (or the Prez)

1) She was for the rules (Florida and Michigan) until she was against them (when she needed them to win.

2) She was for the popular vote until she saw that she could only win with the Super Delegates… then suddenly she was the only candidate who could win.. the voters be damned.

3) She “misspoke” on 3 occasions about “sniper fire”. This is called telling a lie. No one has difficulty remembering getting shot at. This was an outrageous lie that should have ended her campaign. If Obama or McCain had made the statement, their campaigns would have been over.

4) She had Bill and her surrogates play the “girl” card. Oh… the media is picking on the girl. This, of course, was to rally any woman foolish enough to believe this nonsense.

5) Its time for the Clintons to take the $100,000,000 they’ve made selling their fame and contacts and leave the country alone.

6) The first woman President should be a woman who earns her own reputation, not one who rides her husbands. For example, Nancy Pelosi.

So, Cheryl Norwood, you’re such a believer in change and the Obama message that you would not vote for him if Clinton were on the ticket, and by doing so lend your support to McCain, to make the point that you want change, but just not that change, so you’d support the non-change offered by McCain, or something like that, sorta, kinda. Let me know if I have that wrong.

If somebody parrots that “17 million voted for Clinton” nonsense one more time,…

Anyway, Clinton came in second place in the only metric that matters…pledged delegates (campaigning for pledged delegates requires a different strategy, a “50 state strategy” than campaigning for popular votes). Not that it matters, but Obama also won more states and more popular votes (no fuzzy math needed).

When it comes to political party nominations, there are no second place medals (or automatic spots on the ticket). The winner has the right…no…the obligation to pick the VP nominee that he thinks will be best for him and the country in the long run.
