Israelis are Nazi appeasers?

President Bush goes before the Israeli Knesset and condemns anyone who wants to talk with Hamas and other groups, comparing them to those who appeased the Nazis. It’s a “foolish delusion” to talk with such people, Bush said, “as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along.”

But according to a new poll, 64 percent of Israelis support direct negotiation with Hamas, including 48 percent of those in the hard-core Likud party.

So according to the president, Israel is a nation of Nazi appeasers…. who knew?

Oh Mr. Bookman, I think you are going to get hounded by the pro-Israel American Jews, big time.

They don’t play around. Good luck… wow.

What funny is that Bush would play the Hitler card during this campaign at all, like he thought it would help. It shows you how disoriented, and completely neutralized the GOP is, and it’s an indication of how big the Obama landslide’s margin will be. I’m going with 65-35, but I’m being generous.

I mean really think about it. The Israelis know who Hitler is and they’ve absorbed all the events of WW2. Yet some knucklehead would, at this very late date, get in front of them and yell “HEETLER!!” like he was making some insight they hadn’t achieved.

Bush is an idiot. A total complete embarrassment and I’ve had enough.

Negotiating with Arabs and Muslims is a lost cause. Most of them view it as a sign of weakness and it encourages them to be even more aggressive. Obama is an idiot if he thinks that talks with the president of Iran are going to accomplish anything. The mid-east is in a power struggle due to Iraq no longer being a player and any country which appears to look weak to their neighbors is a potential target. The aggressive players end up on top with all the marbles and all the oil. Hamas wants to continue to spread chaos in the region because it keeps them in the game. Negotiation does nothing for them. It does not win the battles necessary for them to dominate and they are in this for the long haul in case you haven’t noticed.

What Mr. Bookman fails to tell us in this post is while Haaretz is a legit fish wrapper other publications like The Nation describe it as “Israel’s liberal beacon,” citing its editorials voicing opposition to the occupation, the security fence, discriminatory treatment of Arab citizens, and the mindset that led to Second Lebanon War. Therefore, the poll is skewed towards the position Mr. Bookman is pushing - typical AJC Liberal B. S.

Bookie, as usual, misses the point completely. Him and that Cynthia are the reason this rag is slipping every week in subscriber base. The AJC used to be such a good paper….

As a 22 year old college student, I can NEVER remember the AJC being nothing more than a rag. With radicals for opinion writers (right and left), Reuters and AP for US and world reporting, and virtually nothing except recipes, dogs, and yellow journalism for local news, it’s not a surprise that the circulation is dropping like a stone.

So this is what conservatism has come to… openly sneering at the very IDEA of diplomacy and firing off silly cliches like “Freedom requires war” and “Give war a chance.”

America is better than this. Americans are tired of this empty bragging and simpleminded, swaggering stupidity. That’s why the GOP is doomed as long as they stay hitched to the neoconservative agenda.

You folks are hammers, looking for nails. Meanwhile, the world has moved on to box cutters, anthrax powder, and computer viruses—all of which you’re powerless to even understand, let alone defend against.

Jay, you’re absolutely correct. These right-wing idiots (our President included) regard themselves holier than the pope. Their mantra should be “Give war a chance”. However, that mantra is good only when its other folks kids are being sent to be killed or to do the killing. These idiot conservatives have gotten us into a never-ending war, a spiraling national debt and have mortgaged the future of our children and STILL have the temerity to even defend their madness! But then, that’s why its called madness.

Negotiating with any of them (including the Israelis) is a lost cause. The mid-East wars have been going on for over 800 years. All fueled by who controls Jerusalem. As long as any one of the Abrahamic religious has control, there will be war.

The only possible option I could see would be to put Jerusalem under the authority of a “dis-interested” third party. Maybe we (the world) should set up Jerusalem as it’s own “secular city-state” and move the UN headquarters there as the managing authority.

I know I’m dreaming, but 800+ years is long enough!

I don’t know how the poll Jay Bookman quoted was run but I suspect that the questions asked may have been directed at the best way to secure the release of Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier abducted by Hamas during a cross-border raid into Israeli territory.

The following is what the Jerusalem Post said about negotiations with Hamas (May 8, 2008): In the case of Hamas, the best approach remains continued adherence to the Quartet’s policy of no contact with Hamas until it accepts the international community’s three conditions for engagement: recognizing Israel’s right to exist, renouncing terrorism and accepting previous Israeli-Palestinian agreements.
