A shameless Huckster
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Mike Huckabee makes it clear he wants to be on the McCain ticket as vice president.
“There’s no one I would rather be on a ticket with than John McCain,” the Huckster said Sunday. ” All during the campaign when I was his rival, not a running mate, there was no one who was more complimentary of him publicly and privately. … I still wanted to win, but if I couldn’t, John McCain was always the guy I would have supported and have now supported.”
That statement — as shameless and blatant a pleading to be picked as you will ever see — does a couple of things. If McCain now fails to choose Huckabee as his running mate, he will appear to be rejecting not just Huckabee but his supporters as well. To that degree, Huckabee has boxed in McCain quite nicely.
On the other hand, no presidential candidate likes to be boxed in like that. If Huckabee pulls a stunt like this now, how controllable and subservient will he be if he’s on the ticket? That’s especially true since Huckabee already has a reputation as a loose cannon. Final analysis: Bad move by Huckabee.

I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that John McCain doesn’t really want to ‘be’ President, he just wants to be able to say he was ‘elected’ President. Accordingly, watch out for who he finally names as his VP, cause I wouldn’t put it past these guys for sometime in the first six months, if he were to, in fact, get elected, for McCain to step down for health reasons. So hold onto your socks, we could end up with ‘one of those others’ that even the Republicans couldn’t stand in the first place.
Simple solution will be to have a landslide Democratic victory in November sending a message that we really don’t appreciate those eight years of abject failure, deceit and thievery.

Well, that’s a given, DD. Things are definitely looking better (i.e., more liberal) for America, and once we can get President Obama officially sworn in, we’ll see the effects.

Watch McCain name Jeb Bush as his VP. And then watch the election day shenanigans again unfold.
I’m hoping, as a country, we’ve learned to see through the smokescreen that the Republican Party has created over the past 8 years. But when I hear Hannity and Limbaugh and their minions chime in, I sometimes wonder if their unmitigated failure has even dawned on them yet.

Huckabee has already isolated too many potential voters to be taken seriously (ie: Mormon remarks, Obama shooting remarks).
He’s a joke.

Jay - I saw Huck say that on Meet the Press. He tried to deflect the question but Tim Russert pushed him on it. I’m no fan of the Huckster but I think it was unfair of you to call it “shameless” when he was just answering the question. How would you, in your infinite wisdom, have recommended him answer the question??

I can’t believe this reporting. Did you even watch the interview. He was totally pushed into answering the question. Just tell me did you watch the interview. The way you have reported it is totally twisted. Why don’t you show Tim Russert questioning Huckabee. It will speak for itself.

Any experienced politician knows how to deflect a question if they want to do so. Believe me, it becomes like breathing to them. Furthermore, Huckabee had to know before going on the show that Russert would ask him the veep question, because it’s so obvious. His answer was his prepared answer.

Huckabee would be a bad pick for VP. He is too tied to the relioNazi right for McCain to appeal to moderates. The best pick for McCain would be Hillary Clinton. That way if McCain kicks it during his term, Clinton can set in with so much as a burb.

Jay - Fair enough. I’ll accept your answer and admit that Huck wants the veep slot but I didn’t get the impression from the interview that Huck is saying to McCain, “Add me or I’m taking my supporters and going home.” I believe Huck will encourage his supporters to vote for McCain no matter who is chosen as the running mate. If McCain wants conservative votes, he needs to put a true conservative (i.e. fiscal conservative) on the ticket and Huck isn’t a true conservative.

The Republican Party is finally realizing how deep into a political Pearl Harbour they are. They don’t know how to get out of it. Conservative talk show rants of how the voting public has no clue about the direction this country should take are alienating voters left and right. No pun intended. They fail to remember that these clueless voters kept Bush in office for two terms and until recently, voted to keep a Republican majority in Congress since 94’.
And “Republican Party”, I think the Obama “freaks” do realize who they are putting in office. That is the reason they no longer vote Republican.

Typical Liberal views expressed here. Let’s call people names and disrespect them and lie about their records. While we are at it, let’s accuse them of other stuff. Maybe if we whine loud enough and often enough, we can influence others to join us in our miserable existence.

The GOP is in a shambles, and they deserve to be as they’ve made their own beds.
Dems will win in a landslide in Nov. Time for change. Time to get back to prosperity for everyone, not just the uber rich.
Time for our place back in the world to be restored, with honor and respect.
I can’t wait to see the GOP sink. They are bad for America.

Hey Joseph.
Read your own rant. When it comes to name-calling, you and your cronies are in a league all by yourselves. Read the ugly words of Red Foreman (1:35) Republican Party (1:47) and Shawny (1:52). Perhaps you’re brainwashed into thinking that only Liberals are capable of whining, lying and disrespect. Frankly, I found your post to be offensive AND hypocritical, in light of the venom and vitriole expressed by your compatriots on a daily basis on these blogs, on the airwaves, and around the water cooler.

Ouch. I love Jay Bookman. He’s great. Huckabee’s lee harvey oswald act last week was the real gaff. This latest McCain badgering is already forgotten. I dont think voters have an attention span. Not that I’m saying voters have a short attention span. I’m saying they dont have an attention span. They couldn’t. They keep having sex even though most women turn into Aunt Bea. Magically overnight.
There’s no hope for any of us. We’ll get drunk, and then we’ll start seeing babes in the same barstool that a moment before the alchohol set in was Aunt Bea. Then when we sober up, we’re all Otis in a Jail Cell. Dont worry, aunt bea will drop by later with some fried chicken.
What I dont get is why these aunt beas keep having sex with us. Dont they know we’re impaired, and depraved and not responsible?
it’s not fair. Huckabee the Huckster. ouch.
ouch, sir. Is there an aunt bea in your life?

Notice how he’s kept his mouth shut since figuring out he was nuttin but a stool pigeon?

Welcome to the AJC, Joseph. The meeting place for intolerant liberals who think name calling is some form of noble activism.
My favorite response is to ask the poster in question whether he call people names in public. The name caller is then forced to admit that he is a socially maladjusted person who runs around screaming at people or admiting that they are a socially maladjusted person who hides behind anonymity to call names.
The thing that is so amusing is that these people support the guy who claims that he “wants to change the tone of the conversation”. I don’t Obama meant reverting back to grade school name calling and vulgarity.

I doubt McCain wants anything to do with a Religious Reich-type such as Huckabee, no matter how many of his advisors insist that he’d be “necessary to bring in the far-right fanatics.”
No, Huckabee needs his own party. Even the GOP couldn’t withstand his brand of insanity.

Oh yea, typical liberal name callers, blah, blah, blah. Hey this is not a conservative radio call in show. Some of you sensitive types might just have to read something you disagree with. Some of you act like Charlie Brown attempting to kick the football that Lucy is holding. You know there will be alternate views, you know they will pizz you off, but here you are anyway.
How ironic that some of you are having such a hard time here when it was Huckabee that made the poor taste “joke” connecting Obama to an assassination attempt. Much more vile than anything I’ve read here.

Huckabee was a popular puppet of the Neocon agenda during the 2008 Republican Presidential Race. He had no plan and merely followed the orders given to him by John McCain. With his horsetoothed smile, lazy right eye, Elmer Gantry vernacular, and ever shaking jowels, he proved to everyone that Arkansas can continue to produce a Slick Willy candidate. Neoncon will continue to control the parties and government of this once great nation as we sit idly by and think it’s 1950 USA. Traitor Huckabee is a shill, hack, and utter disgrace as a nominee and a human being.
