Stage is set for classic Tech-UGA game
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Ah, now comes the reckoning. While Georgia Tech has been critically involved with those powers of the Atlantic Coast Conference — not to mention Jacksonville State and Gardner-Webb — Georgia has been wrangling with such geographical powers as Georgia Southern and Central Michigan, not to mention Alabama and Florida. But all that is backstage stuff. They get down to some pretty danged important business if you’re going to survive in this state.
For seven years in a row Georgia has left Georgia Tech bleeding and suffering, and Chan Gailey on the ropes. This kind of streak has happened only once before in the series, from 1949 through 1956, when Tech won eight years in a row. This time these two deal from a fresh deck of Bicycles — that’s a brand of playing card — and it’s pretty darned important in Athens that Mark Richt win again, especially so since Georgia Tech is on the rise and fears no one.
This will not be Paul Johnson’s first trip to Athens. But this time it’s different. When he appeared then in 2000 he was driving an underpowered Georgia Southern machine, good enough to win the NCAA Division I-AA championship, but not geared to match the rich and powerful. He lost 29-7. He comes armed now with a level of talent he has never known before, either at Georgia Southern or Navy.
He is a man of uncommon presence. One time you see him in the face of one of his errant chaps, then you see him patting one on the head, then you see him strolling casually along the sideline, seemingly detached from what’s taking place on the field. Mark Richt, by contrast, is often vigorously and emotionally involved, floating Draculian plots around in his head. This is a match worth walking the Appalachian Trail to watch. I can hardly wait.
Both teams have won when they should have lost, and lost when they should have won. Georgia has its plaintiffs, injury and police action; Tech has had its own defendants, mainly dealing with incapacitated personnel. Thursday night, “Whiteout Night” at Bobby Dodd, began with a flight of Georgia Tech alums streaking across the heavens in a spacecraft, quite visible and dramatic. What followed was a performance hard to believe. The team that almost lost to Gardner-Webb punished a toughening Miami team severely, could have been 41-10, was 41-23, mainly because Johnson played everybody who showed up for the team meal.
Tech is a confounding football team. You always wonder which one is going to show up. Johnson shocked all the “whiteout” crowd, opening with three passes, one thrown by a receiver. With opposing defenses it’s usually like one of those “shell” games shown at the ballpark. It’s called the “triple option” because the defense must guess which one of the three it will be, with an occasional pass thrown in, all coming out of the computer in Paul Johnson’s head. If it hasn’t already been indicated earlier, this is a kind of Georgia-Georgia Tech never seen before. And I repeat, I can hardly wait. Besides, there’s nothing like a noon kickoff.

All games should be at noon. Good, crisp sunshine and a little nip in the air from morning.
Georgia will take care of business. It is Senior/Junior early exit day and they will not dissappoint.
Besides, ESPN is not making over this game, so they won’t be distracted by all of the nonsense.
Bring it on!

When will you UGAy retards stop using Gardner-Webb as a measuring stick? Does no one remember who our starting QB in that game was and why him being in the game is NOT indicative of the level of play GT is capable of?
Secondly, that game is water under the bridge - many moons ago… This team has progressed mightily since then.

But first things first. Two of the things that had to happen for Tech to get to the ACC title game happened today. Clemson beat Virginia and NC State beat UNC. Now if either Duke beats Virginia Tech today, or Virginia beats Virginia Tech next Saturday, Tech will play in the ACC title game.

Apologies here. A bit off topic(It wouldn’t be a UGA related blog w/out a CWM reference): Here’s some food for thought. If Richt and Tuberville are such great pals off the field, why not bring Tubs in as DC. The guy has a solid (ok, great) defensive mind and the ability to recruit for that side of the ball. It might actually be worth the demotion to have the opportunity to stick it to Auburn (among others) on a yearly basis. Willie doesn’t need to be fired, just demoted to his old job (linebackers coach I believe). What do y’all think? Totally out of the realm of possibility?

You guys seem to be thumping your chests a little after the game on Thursday. After playing the likes of Florida and Alabama, Tech will not be an issue.
The Dawgs have not played at home since early October. Look for a weel rested, prepared, and motivated Georgia team on Saturday.
God Bless Stafford, Moreno, Green, and Atkins. But go ahead and thump your chests boys. Go right ahead.

OK, now on topic: I think CPJ has done an awesome job with GT this year. I am another one of those dawg fans that actually cheers for Tech (and the real GSU) when they don’t play the Dawgs. As for this game: UGA 27 GT 21 Tech is 2 years away from being legit BCS material. As for my previous post, I wouldn’t mind some constructive feedback from the jackets as well as the dawgs. The Tuberville scenario sounds intriguing, verdad?

We got a whole new ball game thistime around. UGA came close to losing to Kensuckie and Awfulburn. They played two good teams the whole year and got stomped into the dirt. Tech’s triple option flies as long as they don’t turn it over. This year we have a powerful offense, a better defense and a muslim nejjer in the whitehouse. Two out of three postives here. Tech 38, Ugag 27.

Everybody wants to make fun of UGA losing to UA and UF and saying they havent played anybody else. Well who has Tech beaten. UGA always win after a bye week. Acc is weak no team in the top 15. Your coach and backup Qb have given enough bulletin board info when he was hired and when the Qb signed with gt. Tech will have to throw the ball more than 8 times on Saturday. UGA offense is head and heels better than UM. UGA 35 GT 28

The fact that UGA is concerned about Tech this game shows the difference in these 2 teams. Tech has done more with less and UGA has done less with more. Regardless of the outcome of this game, these are 2 programs heading in opposite directions. UGA is an undisciplined, underachieving team. Classless act last year against Florida came back to haunt them. Hopefully Tech will put the final nail in UGA’s “breakthrough” season.

Lilburn Dawg talking awfully big after the stellar performance his team posted against UK and AU.

**One great resemblance borne by this Yellow Jacket team to those of recent past years: You don’t know which one is going to show up on a given Saturday. But, careful - UGA will be set.

GT has only played 4 road games this year, losing two of them and beating BC by 3(in the 2nd game of the season with ZERO experience) and beating Clemson by 4(a few days after they fired their coach).
The only thing that kept the Nerds from having a 3 game losing streak heading into the Miami game was a fumble by FSU as they were about to punch it into the end zone to win the game.
Hey, but Tech did have 4 impressive home victories to start the year…over Jacksonville State, Miss State, Duke and Gardner-Webb…juggernauts all…and then lost to an average(at best) UVA team at home.
That win over Miami was impressive though…after all, “the U” did beat UCF by 6 this year.
Dawgs roll again. Yawn.

“You haven’t beaten one team that is worth a damn and you will lose big again on Saturday. That gimmick offense won’t work against a real team with speed.”
Last time I checked, Both Miami and FSU were heralded as having “extremely fast” defenses going into their games against Tech.. we sure didn’t do anything to either of those teams.
As far as beating teams “worth a damn,” I once again allude to ranked opponents Miami and FSU, whom, even despite the final score of the FSU game, were tremendously outplayed by Tech on those days. It should also be mentioned that the two ranked teams that UGA has beat, Vanderbilt and LSU, are either out of the Top 25 (Vandy, who lost to Duke), or on their way out (LSU, who today got the snot beat out of them by MIssissippi).
With those little tidbits out of the way, I believe that this game will be very, very good. UGA’s defense is been playing at a subpar level to what they are capable of, and if the trend continues, they will have a very hard time defending Tech’s offense for 60 minutes.
However, UGA’s offense is by no means a “pushover” group, as Stafford and crew have proved (on multiple occasions) that if their backs are against the wall, they can very quickly get out of a jam.
I believe that Tech’s defense will have their hands full for the entire game, and it will more than likely come down to the closing minutes to see who wins this one.

As a non partisan Pac Ten fan, Georgia fans are not all rednecks, there are many GT rednecks fans to. Second, I find it funny that I school that has lost 7 years in a row would talk smack before the game. Georgia should win, but Tech has a legit shot, probably a better one than the next two years considering UGA’s very young and Tech’s talent pool is not the same; close, but not the same. Tubberville will not be the DC at ugag. He will wind up as a HC somewhere - maybe even Univ of Wash or somewhere else outside of the south.

all GT fans are NERDS … I got it. All UGA fans are DUMB REDNECKS … I got it. Let’s grow up kids. That childishness should have been left on the Elementary School playground.
GT is clearly on a high note heading into next week’s game. UGA was watching the Miami game (I’m sure) and has had a bye week to get ready. This should be a war if both teams play to full capability.
Question: will GT be able to rely on more passing if UGA shuts down their running options? I welcome any constructive, adult-level thoughts from UGA and GT fans alike.

You know your about to get the any win in the SEC is a quality win argument. Then you can tell that bozo that GT beat MSU silly (38-7) and they will say that MSU is the doormat of the SEC. Then you can tell them that the MSU defense ranks above UGA (5th to 6th), that AU beat MSU 3-2 and that UGA beat AU 17-13. They will then say that MSU is in the SEC West, which weaker than the East., Blah, blah, blahbity, blah.
I know you have been down through this argument before, I’m just trying to speed things up. Oh, don’t forget, that Noshow Moreno hurdled that DB from CMU and leaped sideways into the end zone against ASU. That’s why UGA will beat GT.

Question: I realize that this is off topic. However, I am not 100% clear on how the ACC coastal division will work out. I keep hearing that Va Tech is in the drivers seat but my question is, how so? If Miami and Va Tech win out they will be tied with Ga Tech for the lead. VT beat Ga Tech, Miami beat VT, and Ga Tech beat Miami. What is the deciding factor that makes VT go to the ACC Champ in Tampa? Wouldn’t the tie go to the best overall record? Or the highest ranked team? Or the team with the most BCS wins? Why VT?

And don’t try to convince me you have ever been to the UGA campus on any days other than Saturdays between, Aug. and Dec. In addition to my wife being a UGA grad, I am also a UGA grad. I have degrees from both colleges. What, you ask. How can you be a UGA grad and not root for the doggies? Simple. I lead. You follow. It is easy to root for the puppies when everyone does. After a head-to-head threeway tie, it goes to the divisional record. VT is 3-1 (so far), GT is 2-3, Miami is 3-2. GT beats Miami due to head-to-head if in a two way tie with Miami (requiring another VT loss to UVA). Got it?

As much as I loved the Miami-GT matchup I hate this one. I think we have a shot at a victory, the best one since 2006. However, all the intangibles point to a Big Georgia blowout. I think this game is either a close GT win (24-21) or this is worse than kicking off at 6:09. That’s 51-7 for those of you that forgot I think Georgia could score 100 on us with the injuries we have on defense. I hope I’m wrong, especially for my 11 y.o.’s sake, but I’m afraid this might be the worst beating we’ve ever gotten…UGA wins 84-3

Tech has had some great wins this year, but still a bunch of Dawg fans kept coming over talking smack against us on our own board. Their fans keep talking about how meaningless ACC champship is, but I’d rather be in the hunt like we still are, than sitting on the sidelines hurling insults like so many UGA fans. I mean, the Dawgs were blown out big time vs. UF and UA. Maybe they can buy some tix to SEC ch’ship cause thats as close as they’ve been getting (or will get as long as theyre in UF’s division). GT is at a disadvantage in recruiting, funding, local fan base, but we still put up a fight. UGA should usually win, but we still take get some wins. Now that we have a better coach, I look forward to beating UGA more often. We are missing several starters right now, but somehow we will stay in this game and possibly win, even tho we are at a big disadvantage.

There are a lot of SEC vs ACC matchups next Saturday. At the end of the day we will see who matches up between the SEC and ACC. The GT vs UGA matchup will be decided on how well Tech defense handles UGA passing game and whether UGA can stop Tech’s run. UGA will not be able to stop Tech’s offense. So it will really boil down to how many stops Tech’s defense can accomplish.

Preseason No. 1, fallen to 13, beaten who they should have, not beaten who all GA fans knew they would.

Yea, I am betting Gameday won’t be heading back to Athens anytime soon either. Maybe the AJC covers UGA more because the employ these people called journalists and I hear that UGA produces something called journalists. Hmm. I wonder if that could be where the bias lies. See GT doesn’t produce these journalists. They produce people who improve the civil, mechanical and electrical world through innovation and applied technology. Meanwhile, UGA observes this advancement and then writes articles about it.

Coach Paul Johnson is a special coach and he has a superb coaching staff. GT recruiting is about to improve dramatically and the future of the GT Football Program is very bright indeed!

Tech is really 6-3 if you don’ t count the 2 wins over Jax. St. and the 10-7 blowout of Gardner-Webb. I agree that Tech looked good against Miami but we are talking about a whole different world coming to Athens. Tech turns the ball over and trouble will find them. If the Dawgs can take the dive away then it will be tough for Tech to move ball consistently. Then we’ll see if Nesbitt can beat us with his arm which I don’t see happening. GO DAWGS!

No, we cannot RELY on the pass, but hopefully CPJ will use it strategically to help our running. If GT uses the pass successfully, it will have to be quick hitters. Our O-Line has not shown the propensity for pocket pass protection. I do think CPJ has some more tricks up his sleeve for UGA. Let’s hope they all are work.
We are going to have to run the ball with success. We need to do very well on 1st down. And of course, we cannot turn the ball over.

This blog is just chock full of the usual tired old crap.
“Leghumpers” and “nerds,” remarks about trailer parks and rednecks and tickle piles. Sheesh! It gets old.
Paul Johnson’s done a remarkable job this season at Tech. Georgia’s had a fine season, as well, losing to two of the top three teams in the country (teams that could easily beat Tech by similar margins). Injuries derailed the higher aspirations of this team, but a 10-2 regular season and a top-10 ranking with a New Year’s day bowl game are things most Georgia fans would have killed for during the seemingly interminable Donna/Goff era.
This game should be a shootout. The Georgia defense has had their manhood challenged and will come out blazing. The Georgia offense will not let their foot off of the gas all night.
Until the Miami game, i was concerned that Georgia might come into the Tech game overconfident and unfocused. That’s not going to happen now. The Jackets have the Bulldogs’ undivided attention.
Barring an excessive number of turnovers, the streak continues. Georgia will win 31-24.

Pathetic losers! Go find an tickle pile and play grab a$$ homos!
Here are some facts for you and all the other trash-talking, obscene barking dawgs:
GEORGIA TECH WON 6 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: 1990, 1956, 1952, 1951, 1928, and 1917. GEORGIA WON 5: 1980, 1968, 1946, 1942, and 1927. THE ONLY CONSENSUS NC WAS TECH, 1917. TWO OF THE DAWGS NC’S, 1968 & 1946, WERE NAMED BY ONLY ONE SOURCE OUT OF ~13. ALL OF TECH’S WERE MORE THAN ONE.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAADivisionI-Anationalfootball_championship
FSU, UNC, and Miami were all ranked on the Top 25 while Clemson, VT, & BC were ranked at some time during the season.
The ACC leads the SEC in overall rankings, top to bottom. The NFL drafted more players from the ACC over the past 3 years than any other conference, including the top 3, Matt Ryan, Calvin Johnson, and Mario West. The ACC leads the nation in graduation rates. The SEC is last. Finally, Tech has won more National Championships than the dawgs including the only consensus NC in 1917. The ACC is 3-3 against the SEC this year. Finally, Tech has a more illustrious gallery of coaches than Georgia: John Heisman, Wm. Alexander, Bobby Dodd, Bobby Ross, and probably Paul Johnson.
Similar obscene trash talk from several other bad dawgs is a disgrace to the many classy UGA alumni I know and as posts above reveal.
Typically you trash-talkers don’t counter any intelligent analysis with any accurate facts or insightful opinion except to spew obscene, disgusting trash talk. I know you are upset because of the underachieving dawgs whose A*******ES have been chomped by Gators and whipped to shreds by Bama until they are Red, Black, and Blue. I know you feel inferior to Tech’s players and students who are so much smarter than dawgs and the fact that most of you probably don’t even have a college degree or maybe not even a high school diploma. So go back to your trailer, , put on the Deliverance music, and get it on Dawgie Style with your cousin-wife’s brother since you have so many obscene fantasies about homosexuals and tickle piles, then sip some moonshine, puff on your corn-cobb pipes, and admire your 6th Grade Diplomas on the wall, you moronic red-neck, trash-talkers.
To paraphrase a previous dawg, while Richt has been at UGA we have seen the dawgs leading the nation in criminal arrests, rapes in the student dorms, teachers attacked, and one of the lowest graduation rates in the nation. We’ve seen college course exam questions for your basketball players such as: “How much is a 3 point goal worth? How many halves in a game?” Hershel Walker was quoted in Sports Illustrated as saying “I don’t want to leave Georgia early for the NFL because I haven’t finished coloring all my books yet!”
BTW, our two fight songs are so much better than your unimaginative excuse for one. I never heard the ESPN announcers raving about your copying the Battle Hymn of the Republic because no one at UGAG could write an original song
So, you still want to talk trash?

Mr. Bisher is right on as usual. This will be a great game, I too wish they wouldn’t play it at noon. To heck with TV! This is a game for state of Georgia Braggin’ Rights for the next year. Everybody knows that Basketball is just a filler till football starts back. Does it bother anyone besides me that CPJ never played any college ball….Heck, he never played varsity high school ball! WTF! O’Leary never played college ball either, but at least he looked like a football coach, AND he had the Dawgs number!
CPJ looks like an accountant. I could see him in a commercial, on the sidelines with the team calling a play, then the camera zooms in and one of the players says “Coach, did you ever play college football?” and the coach responds, “No, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.”
When will the powers that be at Tech ever learn, we want a REAL FOOTBALL COACH, not a PE major with intramural experience. I’m a Tech grad and I love my school, but the offense we run is a high school offense. If CPJ had ever played he would know that! Moreover, We play in one of the weakest leagues in the country. I say Georgia has it’s “BREAKOUT GAME” on Saturday and wins this one in a laugher..Score is Ga.- 44 / Tech - 17

Mystery of the year, Kiante Tripp. Beast in the weight room, one of the better athletes on the team literally disappeared after the 3 or 4th game. AJC reported and ankle injury, never mentioned by MR or David Hale, who writes for the Macon Telegraph/Ledger-Enquirer -covers Georgia exceptionally well.

The nerds don’t stand a chance. They won’t even get a first down. We will be playing the 3rd string in the second quarter. We should ask CMR to tell us how many TDs he intends to ring up because he already knows. I heard they are preparing a brand new dance number and will break it out when the score is 21 to zip with 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter. The final score will be over 100 to 0. How dare that CMR to tell me I don’t know nothing about football!

According to Tech fans, they are so good this year they should be playing for the national championship! Why shouldn’t we bring up Gardner Webb or UNC? All you geeks do is bring up our losses to Florida and Alabama (#1 and #3). Wonder what your excuse will be this year. Every year you’ve had a few.. Reggie Ball, Chan Gailey, etc. etc, etc. It’s always something. How about the truth? Georgia just happens to be better than you every year! Truth hurts, doesn’t it? Amazing too how you never see Tech fans until they win a game or two, then all ten of them come crawling out of the wood work! After the GA game this year it will be the same old same old.. “we’re really more of a basketball school.” Here we go.. bring on the excuses!

ATL Jacket—where have you been all season? You must be one of the 5 Tech fans that crawls out of nowhere after a few wins. Let me ask you the same question you’ve asked us… how many top ten teams has Tech beaten? Oh yeah, you have to play ranked teams to beat them! LOVE how UNC pounded your a**es and then got their clocks cleaned by NCST this weekend! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Got any excuses for that, nerd?

Since the use of the plastic helmet with a face mask Georgia has won 34 out of 48 meetings in the series. If Tech fans think that is going to change with Mark Richt at Georgia, they are delusional.
Even if Tech does manage to find a way to win don’t count on it to be a change in the rivalry.

I have been following this series since I was old enough to say “Go Dawgs”. The hiring of Paul Johnson will turn this back into the kind of rivalry it should be and that means Ga Tech will win games.
I dont know what will happen this year and I kind of think that UGA is in for a tough hard fought game that they will be lucky to win. I do think that Stafford is going to have to play well and have his head in the game and not in the NFL money talk.
Game will come down to who wants it more and I wonder if the Dawgs are still interested in this season. If they are not, Tech will roll in and embarras the Dawgs.
Paul Johnson is a great coach… So is Richt. Cant wait to see this game unfold.
Go Dawgs! And Tech, good luck on Virginia knocking off va tech. HOpe you guys get a shot at the ACC title!

Dawgs defense will not be up to stopping Tech. They have no pass rush, can’t tackle and the defensive backs have been easily confused by offensive schemes they see all season; they will never figure out the triple option. Plus, lack of discipline, poor play calling, and poor coaching will lead to a Tech victory and the worst season since the early 90s. A lost to Tech always ends with a poor season.

The series, PJ vs, MR, is 0-0. The past seven means nothing to PJ or to the GT fans. Did the fact that you have lost 16 of 19 to Florida matter when you beat them last year, NOPE. Gailey, gone. Ball, gone. The reset button has been pressed.
Keep talking trash because deep down you fear this offense. It exploits the undisciplined, and we all know how the UGA program is with their discipline.
If you follow Paul Johnson’s career know it is coming. When it comes, it will be hard and it will hurt. This series is back. Give Paul three years to recruit his type of players and build his type of depth , and oh it will be back with a vengence.

Look, let’s face it, throw out all of the stats, this one is going to be an all out war from start to finish regardless of the score…The biggest problem for the Dawgs is that Willie Vanille has no clue how to defend the triple option…I am pretty sure he has already logged in his predetermined game plan and it aint gonna cut it…Our only chance is if Rennie Curran takes control in the D huddle and completely disregards the calls from the sidelines…The guy is a one man wrecking crew who can defend the Bugs Triple Option offensive sets…On the offensive side, I am fairly confident that Bozo’s two favorite plays, the bomb and quarter back keeper, will not be effective…so hopefully CMR will grab the clip board and establish an effective plan as the game unfolds?? If we get blown out for being unprepared, undisciplined and out coached, the good news is that Willie and Bozo should get a one way ticket out of Athens…Who knows maybe that will be easier for CMR than having to fire his friends…One final comment, I hope the TV does a good job of flashing some shots of the Techies with their remote control whirlie bird hats…”The rambling geeks from Ga Teek”….This one is all about bragging rights…Game on boys!!

Gator……actually if you pulled the mullet back from around your ears and your jorts were not so tight, you would have known that the SEC media actually picked your Gators to win the SEC East. I hope ya’ll enjoy it this season b/c Urban Meyer has a moving truck on the way as he’s about to become the new HC at ND.
Tech will be back in the top 25 today and that is not good news for Techies. All the ACC teams in the top 25 lost last week. That seems to be a trend this season.
You beat Miami b/c they could not move the ball. Their offense sucks. Georgia boasts the #1 total offense in the SEC and #24 in the nation. Tech’s total D is 19th in the nation. The best offense Tech has seen all season…..Florida State. The same FSU team that lost 12-3 to Wake Forest. BTW, Georgia is #15 in the nation in rushing D. Georgia has had the benefit of the bye week and was able to watch Tech get all geeked up on ESPN against The U. Georgia wins and makes it 8 straight against the Nerds. Rennie Curran wins the SEC Defensive Player of the Week award after making 18 tackles, 5 for a loss.

Words from the mouth of Furman Bisher. “This kind of streak has happened only once before in the series, from 1949 through 1956, when Tech won eight years in a row.” Mr. Furman was speaking of Georgia’s current 7 game streak.
Mr. Bisher, you are obviously a Tech fan with selective memory, and are obviously old enough to remember the last time Tech dominated Georgia 50 years ago. Georgia won 7 years in a row from 1991-1997, and now seven years in a row from 2001-2007. That also makes 14 of the last 17 years that the DAWGS have beat Tech.
I think it’s going to be a heck of a game on Saturday. Ga. Tech looks really good right now, and my DAWGS haven’t played a good game all year. It’s going to be another barn burner like most of the games in this series are, but please get you facts straight Mr. Bisher. GO DAWGS!!!

UGA takes way too many penalties for a team in the top 15 in the nation. If Auburn had an offense worth anything the Dawgs would have 1 more loss and the same record as Tech. Same old hype every year about this year being the “Dawgs year” only for them to lose to UF,UT,LSU,Bama or some other team. They couldn’t get to the big game with Greene,Pollack and company and they won’t be getting to the big game with Stafford,Noshow and company either. Very good point there, lad!! Let’s use your logic to examine GT’s humiliation against UNC (28 - 7) who just got blown out by lowly NC State (41 - 10). Wait! There’s more!! GT also lost to VT who lost to lowly East Carolina. Want some more scores, lad? Okay, the other GT loss was to Virginia who got blown out (52 - 7) by USC and by lowly Connecticut (45 - 10). So what’s your point, GTMTM? The only valid point that can be extracted from your jibberish is that UGA lost to the #1 and #3 teams in the nation. Both Tech and UGA have had surprising seasons … no one expected Tech to do so well, and no one expected pre-season #1 UGA to do so poorly. With that said, I expect this week’s game to be a good one. I don’t know that Tech can stop the Bulldogs’ air attack … but if we can hold onto the football, I’m pretty sure that UGA won’t be able to stop our ground game. I expect a high-scoring game, probably 70-80 points combined. Hopefully the Jackets will come out on top … along with UVA over VA Tech! Hey, DeputyDawg
As far as comparison scores, lad the point is common opponents. The Citadel also played FL, the #3 team and ALSO were humiliated. Just to show up on the field doesn’t mean much. the point is you guys QUIT and were absolutely HUMILIATED. I will say this, UGA fans are down about their season NOT b/c they are 9-2 but b/c in the biggest games of the year, they have utterly FAILED. The scores dont show how bad those losses really were b/c of the mercy td’s allowed toward the end of the game against 2nd and 3rd team SCRUBS. You all know the reason for the disappointment of the season is not the losses but the humiliating nature of both of them. It is why you are all whining about wanting to fire your DC, etc. I will say this about Tech under CPJ: we have always played tough and never quit, have been in every game. You guys QUIT on 2 games. Great respect for CMR as a person and a coach, but the big games haven’t been going your way. The difference with CPJ is that he instills a fire in the belly of his team without the cheap stupid gimmicks CMR has to use to motivate a bunch of prima donnas who shouldn’t need extra motivation to get “up” for the game. Look at the dominant teams this year like FL, OK: when it is a big time game, they show up big time. both have disciplinarian coaches. We do too. See you Saturday, mutts.

DAWGS SUCK AZZ! GO JACKETS! ” TO HELL WITH GEORGIA” “TO HELL WITH GEORGIA” “TO HELL WITH GEORGIA” 90,000 rednecks crying after the game and another 140,000 watching from their trailers. That’s 230,000 rednecks that cry when your team gets rocked by the JACKETS. Of the 230,000 total, there are about 40,000 teeth in all of your rednecks mouths. LMFAO! GT RAMBLES ON!

to quote Urban Meyer ( he of the 2 time out fame, who recently removed his boot from the face of the hapless mutts) “we won’t be scheduling Georgia Tech anytime soon”.
No greater compliment could be given to this ascendent team.
At worst, UGA-GT is going to start looking a lot more like the UT-Oklahoma rivalry, with GT playing the role of Texas.
To follow: thoughtless hound posts quoting D&D, nerds, bugs, etc. with no relation to the facts on the table or a thoughtful discussion of the shifting sands in this rivalry.
As usual, the UGA fans who fail to be accountable for huge blowouts (it was all the refs fault, etc) fail to see what the most knowledgeable folks in the media and coaching circles are seeing (that includes your own Mark Bradley, as well as Bisher, Urban Meyer and all those who currently put CPJ at the top of the coach of the year voting.
I’d rather play a team with delusions of grandeur than a prepared and ready UGA team.
Lets get it ON!

Patrick, where did you read that I predicted anything? It is you who are delusional. I had no hope that Tech would beat UGA before the season started. Now I do, which is as far as I will go.
heeldawg I try not to name-call except to those who initiate it or deserve it. These epithets don’t apply to the majority of Dawg fans who I think, or at least hope, are decent fans who are as passionate about their team as I am about mine and believe in good sportsmanship. I suspect Georgia will be favored and I won’t be terribly upset if they do, but I will be overjoyed if Tech pulls a major upset. Good luck Saturday.

Not sure why the link above didn’t work. The facts are correct RE the National Championships, and I have been to this site seeral times. I simply copied the address and pasted it. It is long and runs off the page which may cause a clitch in the system here because the box is small.
I suggest you simply Google this:
NCAA Division I FBS National Football Championship From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It also says: (Redirected from NCAA Division I-A national football championship) and this may be part of the address problem.
I have to give the obscene dawg credit. He at least is trying to learn something from my links since he obviously can’t find it himself.

Trust us, we can’t wait to play someone highly ranked… I guess we’ll have to wait for our bowl game though
Highly ranked teams typically don’t travel to Idaho to play on the blue field. Hope this helps.

For you ACC bashers, We have 7 teams in the top 30 Sagarin rankings. SEC has 4. GT is 4-2 against top 30 teams. UGA is 0-2. (For you dolts, that means GA has only played two teams in the top 30!!). All 12 teams in the ACC are in the top 56 teams in the country. SEC goes all the way to # 97. Of course, none of this trash talk matters. We’ll just go out there Saturday and at the end of the day, as I have predicted for the last couple of weeks, both teams will end the regular season at 9-3, with the Jackets at #15 and the Mutts back around 22nd. And to top that off, UVA beats VT and Tech is playing on 12/6 while the Mutts get to watch the only two decent teams in the Sec slug it out in Atlanta. Sorry your #1 dreams went down in flames but thats the way the dogsh*t crumbles. GO Jackets and THWG.

31-0 at the half?!!
Love this time of year:
Alabama/Auburn, Florida/FSU, UGA/GT. It gets down right nasty!!!!
Alabama will beat a spirited Auburn team - will run away in the 4th quarter.
Florida will beat a spirited FSY team - will run away midway through the 3rd.
That leaves UGA/GT. UGA will not hold serve against the ACC - big victory for GT this coming week. WHY?
Teams moving in opposite directions - Look at recent trends
GT has only 70 Scholarship players, injuries, youth - but you do not hear this from their camp - all you hear are the positives - improvement, confidence, forward thinking - the next big game to prove themselves.
Two teams moving in differenct directions.
If OHIO STATE does not make a BSC - look for UGA to play OHIO STATE in the Capital One Bowl - and that will be one ugly beat down - another Alabama or Florida type beat down on the National Stage. Another huge embarrassment for UGA and the SEC this season.
ROOLLLLLLLLL TIDE!!!

Before this season started, I figured that losing to preseason ranked #1 UGA was gonna happen. Being shocked at how this season for GT has turned out, I think it will depend on which GT team shows up. If the really good team shows up, the streak is over and the pups play in Nashville. If the bad team shows up, the streak continues, and the Jackets play in the blue turf bowl.
This is gonna be a fun game after all!!!
Go Jackets!!!!

DAWGS2008 - After playing the likes of Florida and Alabama, Tech will not be an issue.
Don’t you mean “After getting thumped by …” Give me a break. If we protect the ball and have a positive turnover ratio and Nesbitt and Dwyer are healty, we will win. If we have turnovers on our side of the field, we will lose.
It’s that simple.

“When I was a Tech student (‘53-‘58), yeah, we beat the Dawgs 7-8 straight. “
Okay, I’m a tech fan but there is absolutely no way you went to tech from ‘53 to ‘58. I have never met or even heard of a 73 year old man posting on a blog. That just doesn’t happen.

Furman, you need to check your facts.
You wrote: For seven years in a row Georgia has left Georgia Tech bleeding and suffering, and Chan Gailey on the ropes. This kind of streak has happened only once before in the series, from 1949 through 1956, when Tech won eight years in a row.
That is wrong. Georgia also beat Tech for 7 straight years from 1991 to 1997. I doubt you would have forgotten if it had been the other way around.
You might also note that Tech has not beaten Georgia without using academically ineligible players for 17 straight years. The last time was 1990, when Colorado won the national championship.
You, as well as your fellow AJC writers seem to have a knack for overlooking or forgetting Tech’s sins, but rehashing Georgia’s constantly. Ours are misdemeanors. Tech allegations have been felonies, i.e. drug trafficking, hit and run dui, rape, etc.

Yep, Georgia has had a bunch of kids get caught drinking underage, a couple of DUIs, but Tech had a kid rape a girl. Which is worse? And good grief, Tech is the only school in history to play a kid who was under federal criminal indictment - lol - the judge said he had to stay on the team, but your shameless football team made the decision to play him. Did I mention Kelly Campbell, Reggie Koon, Martavious Hester and all the other Tech dopers? Tech men! LOL!!!

UGA avg. 39 plays per game, they scored fas a few times against week Ds. GIT avg. 46 plays per gams, we run the ball. GT has bigger long plays than UGA. MoMAS learned to catch the ball this year, but he still like to put it on the ground or not catch the ball. GT has put the ball on the ground and lost when giving the short field. UNC was well over scored Late. Kentucky played to the end and UGA was ???? Auburn pplayed to the end and was ????? GT @ UGA will be a fight and as usual it will be a 2-5 point game. UGA escaped last year with 2 out-of-the-back-of-the-endzone fumbles that saved your A$$. I think UGA @ HOME, with a weeks rest will be UP for the game. I still think our NEW YOUNG O-LINE mix will make the UGA LB’s have to make face-to-face tackles. UGA LB’s have not done that to well this year. GT secondary is OK but we have the new E. BERRY(UT) in Morgan B.+ Mario Burnett & Cooper Taylor. THIS WILL BE FUN. I want to say congrats AUBURN for giving VINCE an Education and UGA for giving VINCE a JOB. Have a great celebration Coach VINCE.

Hmmm…. let’s see.
The only reason UGA is not in the SEC championship is that the current #1 and 2 teams in the country, at least in one poll - the AP, are from the SEC. The reason that GT is not in the ACC championship game is why?? In my short review of the current polls, the BEST ACC team is at #18 - Tech in the AP.
SEC trumps ACC any day of the week and obviously twice on Saturday.
I live near downtown Atlanta and cheer for Tech especially when they are playing anyone wearing orange. But this weekend, the Dawgs will own the game.

Bill,
Who does a conference that “trumps anoother conference everyday of the week and then twice on Saturday” have a 3-3 record vs that conference?
Yes that’s right, the “Almighty, we are holy’r than thou” SEC is 3-3 vs the ACC in head to head match ups. And don’t give me this crap about which teams from the SEC played, etc.
The SEC has 2 good teams, thus let’s make your statement correct. BAMA and FLORIDA trump the ACC everyday of the week and twice on Saturday, the SEC (i.e., 4 loss LSU, pathetic Auburn, Vandy, Carolina, UGA, UK, Ole Miss, Miss State, Arkansas, and Tennessee for christ’s sake ARE NOT better than the ACC and if you deny that fact, then you are lying to yourself

Bottom line - I hate the average UGA fan(there’s a few of you who have some class) and I hate that we’ve lost 7 in a row. But I love our chances heading into Athens facing a weak defense, an OC who will abandon the run when the pressure is on, and a team that really has nothing to play for.

Dawgs D couldn’t stop Kentucky offense. What makes anyone think we can stop Tech. Dawgs can’t open field tackle, end of story. D-backs are the sorriest bunch weve have in years, I think due to coaching. Tech by 17 if not double that.

While your Techmates are fumbling toolkits in space and sipping Tang, the DAWGS will be sending the spanked bumblebees back to Hotlanta while Paul Johnson is text messaging Auburn to check on other possibilities there. Save your ticket money and buy some more Clearasil for your fellow little fwins. Ciao buggies!

Now, let me tell you what’s going to happen. That Georgie team’s going to come running out of the tunnel screaming and foaming at the mouth and smashing one another upside the head just to get warmed up.
We won’t do any of that. While they waste their energy, we’ll conserve ours. I’ve told you that they’re bigger, faster, and tougher than you. That’s true. But we do have that one big advantage.
We … are … smarter.

I think Stafford has a good chance of being decapitated Saturday b/c of Tech’s pass rush. That will be a good way for him to go out though. Sorry gnats, just because your season turned out better than you dared dream doesn’t change the fact that Dawgs have a lot more talent and play in a much tougher league. Georgia’s 2 losses, though painful, were at the hands of top 5 teams. The streak continues. 8 in a row! Glory to Georgia and to hell with Georgia Tech!
