This Tech loss was uncharacteristic

This was not exactly what Paul Johnson had in mind for his first homecoming day at Georgia Tech. Virginia was surely no cup of tea, but Johnson’s first season with the Yellow Jackets had reached a pivotal point. Beat the Wahoos, and his personal brand would be stamped on football on North Avenue with the stands full of whooping patriots. Lose, it would be a bitter taste of gall.

This is not an old rivalry. Georgia Tech and Virginia only began to date each other regularly when they became fellow members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Tech had learned that Johnson’s style could cut the mustard in this league when they played Virginia Tech down to the wire, a game Tech could have won. Of course, you throw out the Gardner-Webb debacle, a game this team sleepwalked through. But this one, this one was key. This was one not to lose.

Virginia had been humiliated by Southern California, on its own soil. And, you could include Connecticut on that list. Even Duke pitched in, and everybody had been beating Duke until David Cutcliffe came to town. But when Maryland, East Carolina and North Carolina fell in a row, there was something astir in Charlottesville. So, for Johnson to win this one would indeed let the rest of the ACC know there was a new boss in town.

Paul Johnson had established his style, the triple option, or whatever, and he was getting rave notices. And for the first quarter, all was going swimmingly. After that, it wasn’t easy to put your finger on something to brag about. For that matter, no one expected to see him resort to as many pure drop-back passes, and to see his players make as many errors, lose the football, dig enough holes to bury themselves, and in the end, the man from Newland — that’s in the Blue Ridge — confirmed it: “Turned the ball over … make enough mistakes in every area to lose the game twice over.”

OK, enough whining and blame-dispensing. It might have been noticed that the Wahoos did a few things right. That fellow Cedric Peerman, a senior running back from the town of Gladys, Va. — I swear by it — took charge of the offense. He is the first back to roll up 100 yards rushing on the Tech defense this season, with 127, to be exact. He was a whirling dervish. And the quarterback, Marc Verica, a redshirt sophomore, ran the offense like a coach on the field.

You check the scoring and you see something warped about it. The Jackets scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and must have felt rather pleased with themselves, for they never scored another. Somehow, it seemed the fire ran low in their furnace, and they just sort of snoozed into the intermission. There was a lot of unhappiness among the 47,416 paying customers, both with the home lads and the men in stripes. So to leave you with a sweet taste in your memory box, let me remind you of a game in 1990, when Virginia was ranked No. l in the nation, and Georgia Tech waltzed into Charlottesville and ruined the mood on the way to its own national championship.

Then, of course, the Hoos will remind you that they have won four of the past five games they’ve played, and this made five. Hang the other four goose-eggs on Chan Gailey.

Anyone Tech fan who has a clue in August, would have taken 6-2 at this point in the season.

We’re going to be OK. And write it down, we beat Georgia this year.

Nesbitt is too slow on his feet to run this sort of offense. I can’t watch him take another snap. He’s a fine runner but the offense is hopeless when he’s at QB. I’m sick of hopeless offenses. I’d rather watch baseball.

Uncharacteristic? GT has been choking in important games for years. We were just expecting things to be different this year. Hopefully we won’t be ranked going into UGA, cause we’d likely play them tougher if we weren’t. I thought we were passed losing these types of games. I know we’re young but come on, UVA is not a better team. Sigh… new coach, new style, same crushing, inexplicable losses.

I am so angry at Paul Johnson at this coaching staff I am fit to be tied. I partied with my former frat bros pre-game, cheered this team thinking we would be 12-1 headed to BCS and now we lose a homecoming game to a team that lost to Duke. You have GOT to be kidding me? This option crap is for the birds.

UgAg puts up 52 points at LSU against one of the premiere defenses in the country and we manage 2 first-half touchdowns?

I am embarrased to go to church tomorrow and work on Monday, we’ll be lucky to go back to Boise.

The losses are not inexplicable. They lack skilled position players. Reggie Ball? His ghost was back today.

Shaw showed guts and skill at running the option. Had he been in, we’d have won by a couple of TDs. As it was, Nesbitt was horrible all day and Johnson just stuck with him, just as Gailey did with Ball. I don’t know if there’s a lump of kryptonite under the Jackets’ side of the field that turns coaches into zombies, but there has to be some explanation of why all Tech coaches waste series after series with hopeless QBs. I was dismayed with Nesbitt last week and the credit he got for winning the Clemson game. A good option QB would have shredded a pathetic and reorganizing Clemson. Instead Nesbitt earned another shot and I saw this coming all week. Only loyalty kept me from putting 100 on that absurd 11 point spread.

The defense was on the field 2/3s of the day - you can’t blame them.

My opinion is that it’s Nesbitt. I’ve had it with running QBs - run or pass but make up your mind. There isn’t enough time in a typical play to make up your mind when you’re always thinking of calling your own number. Anyone remember Vick? Just burn the playbook because Nesbitt is 1) going to call his own number no matter what the play is 2) fumble 3) throw wide or high every 20th play.

I’m done. I will not watch Nesbitt take another snap.

This is the first home game Georgia Tech has lost this year (by 7 points). It’s a tough loss, yet Tech had just finished a 4 game winning streak. If the Jackets win the next 3 ACC games,(FSU,UNC and Miami),they will be 6-2 Conference and 9-2 Overall.—Anything can happen and Coach Johnson has still done a great job with this team.

I was really dissappointed that our coaching staff made no defensive adjustments to contain Cedric Peerman. He touched the ball (either running or pass receiving) on about 70% of Virginia’s plays. They shoud have assigned a linebacker solely on him, preferrably a lineacker who could tackle.

I hope we can recruit some man cover d-backs. I really hate it when we fall back into our basic soft zone coverage. Who’s responsibility is it to cover those little swing passes to the backs. If anyone knows, please tell the tech coaches.

Nesbett has “happy feet”. It’s obvious that he has no confidense in his offensive line’s pass blocking. Let’s hope we don’t fall behind by more that a TD in any of our remaining games.

As poorly as Tech performed, nothing they could have done with even a blockbuster performance could have overcome the ZEBRAS who failed to call the flood of UVA holding fouls. I’d say there must have been AT LEAST one or more missed holding calls on virtually every GT offensive play by the UVA defense. Reminded me a lot of the same ZEBRA performance in the BC game with Matty Ice in control last year. That lttle girl in the ACC front office still has the s**-est team of ZEBRAS deployed of all the conferences in the nation. Why did CPJ only b***’ once in their faces about it in the game?

I want to remind the whining GT fans that nothing good was built in a day. We are well ahead of where we expected to be at this time in the development of our program. Unfortunately too many of you are like Braves and Falcon “fair weather” fans- I live in Chicago and traveled Atlanta for the Gardner Webb game; yes the team took a day off, but so did the fans. This program is showing many promising things — GT Supporters, quit the whining and fill the seats. The team is doing much better than you the fans.

If most of these blogs are really Tech fans I must say that these are the fastest rats jumping ship that I have ever seen.

Unfortunately, Tech did not play well and they got it handed to them, but that doesn’t mean that fans should completely turn against them. Maybe it will help when Johnson gets the offensive linemen that he needs to make this offense work.

Having said that, I knew we were in trouble when the announcer kept referring to Ga. Tech University. Then I observed way too many missed tackles. That was by far the worse defensive effort of the year.

The UNC game will show a lot. They have some superb athletes on both sides of the ball and will put some points on the board. Tech has a history of having problems with the Tar Heels, so we’d better support the team. Lets not all leave every time we lose a game and then come howling back when we win a couple.

I normally don’t post but feel compelled after reading many of the comments. I respect everyone’s right to their opinion and yes, I am disappointed by the loss and I was in the stands watching. But, have some patience Jacket Fans! This is PJ’s first year in a system that he does not have all the pieces and for this “80” Jacket, I love what he is doing. Yes, the game and the players did not execute perfectly and we got a few “no calls” from the refs, but did you see the size of the offensive line? They were monstrous and moved our guys out of the way at will. We could not stop them, period! Virginia played a hell of a game. Have patience, it will be there, support your team! Do you think ANYONE on that sideline wanted to not play their best? I for one am proud of what is being done on the flats…….

So now we are back to reality. Young team, new coach, new offense. We are doing great this season given all of that. I didn’t expect to lose to VA but they are healthy and putting things together so let’s not be too down about it.

The truth will be figured out over the next 1-3 years as CPJ recruits his players and works with them to run his offense. If in 2-3 years we still look like this then there will be no excuses and he will have to go. Don’t know who we will get.

I personally have no idea yet what the outcome will be but I definitely see signs that make me more positive than negative. When run well it looks like this offense can beat good teams and Paul Johnson has the right fiery temperament to coach college. The question is can the offense work consistently enough year after year to have a shot at 9-10 win seasons. Only time will tell.

I for one will be at all the games supporting this team with the same type of passion that CPJ shows on the sideline until he proves that he can’t get it done. Then I will just be there like I was for the last 2-3 years that Chan was until we find someone better.

GO JACKETS!!

Virginia was a good football team. That offensive line is as good as any in college football. The fact they got away with murder holding, in some instances downright tackling, they were still a very good football team yesterday. Great running back, good quarterback, who puts the ball right on the money which is made a little easier with that offensive line. The defense has some very good talent too. It is no shame losing this one and how they have put this team back together from where they were should be one of the top store lines of the year. Tech is still in the race, they loss two games on fumbles or they would be undefeated. FSU has turn their season around too so next week will be another hard fought game. I don’t think the ACC is the weak little sister any more, just ask Vanderbilt. For some reason it took a few games under our belts to get it going as it does every year. I saw at least two first round draft choices on the field yesterday and a lot more Sunday players. Now that Duke has decided to come back to Division 1 there is not an easy game in this conference. I remember some SEC teams getting blown out first game by USC, they got smart and stop playing them. When Clemson gets a new coach if he is the right guy they will be contenders every year for more than the ACC. A little more respect for the league will get a little more respect for Tech and better than respect it makes all the teams better in reality because of the competition. The SEC has taken it the other direction and get too much respect, but southern football is good football. Something has brought the Big 12 back to glory days too, and with June Jones at SMU and TCU playing lights out the old Southwest Conference members are starting to bite back. The problem with all that is Penn State will get a free pass and a lot of really good teams will be sitting at home because they had to play southern football schedules.

I like all the Nesbitt bashing. It shows that Tech fans can be just as retarded as any other fans. How could you possibly have expected Nesbitt to accomplish anything with defenders in the backfield all day? Tech’s blocking - run and pass - was completely absent for most of the game.

The thing that concerns me is that after CPJ recruits “his players” on the o-line, they’ll be smaller and more likely be even worse at pass blocking. The option better be unstoppable at that point.

Someday, we’ll either become happy with a .625 winning percentage or play 5 meaningless opponents for our non-conference schedule to falsely enhance our record like many schools do. I didn’t like Gailey’s style, but his winning percentage was just as good as anyone since Dodd. What does this mean? That we’ve got a mediocre sports program. And, oh yeah…when Hewitt wins 18 games and is a bubble team for the NCAAs, don’t fake your surprise and outrage…it’s what GTech gives you on a fairly consistent basis. I don’t like it any more than you do. I just admit it.

My, my, my. It appears as though the Techie faithful are all jumping ship these days. My goodness, it was only a few days ago that the GT bug fans were on this site talking extreme smack about a certain show-down in Athens this year. Do you nerds want to perhaps reconsider your unrealistic hopes of winning the game against UGA next month? Thought so. The domination will continue. Another year, another North Avenue Trade School beat-down by your rivals over here in Athens. Different year, different coach for the GT gnats but the bottom line will be the same result. You insects cannot compete with UGA and you know it. You dropped a homecoming game against a virtual high school team and you expect to beat an SEC team in their own back yard? Keep drinking the CPJ Kool-Aid and you will have many more disappointments with that triple-fumble offense that you like to run. Let’s see now…..it’s been how many years since GT has won? Shucks, I have honestly lost count. If one of you Techies would refresh my memory rearding the “rivalry” record I would really appreaciate it.

I only read the first few but I want the Tech fans to STOP right there…BE F*ING grateful we are 6-2 right now! We were picked to finish with no more than 3 wins by more than a few publications. CPJ has come in and won games, don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.

So what we lost to UVA, AGAIN. Even O’leary had his troubles with them. Do we discount what he brought to our program because of this? No. UVA had a 5-4 advantage against GT whenever the jackets are ranked. That is the history of this matchup. Every team has a thorn in their side and ours is UVA. But that far from undermines what CPJ has done for this program…IN ONE YEAR!!!

Shaw had good games, granted, but defenses are afraid of how Nesbitt runs the offense. It doesn’t look or feel the same. This is NOT GAILEY!!! If that man says Nesbitt is the QB, let’s not treat him like the Ball Gailey debacle. We wouldn’t have beated BC, Clemson, or Gardner-Webb if those 2 were in the same situation and you all KNOW it. The team is still 6-2…how many times have we said that these past few years?

I was so messed up after losing again to UVA. Thanks naysayers for reminding me to be GLAD Gailey isn’t there.

Many of you are not old enough to remember, but Bobby Dodd used a similar “triple option” from the T-formation. He called it the “belly series.” It required superb ball handling and it takes time to perfect. Shaw’s father coached him at Flowery Branch using the triple option for three years. If Nesbitt continues to fumble, put in Shaw, but give CPJ a chance to build his own team. The spread of 11 over UVA was way off the mark. UVA may very well beat Va. Tech. They are not the same team now as the one that played USC.

GTChief, you have offered a slew of excuses (young team, new coach, new offense, etc.) in a lame effort to explain your pathetic homecoming defeat yesterday. I can only imagine the myriad of lame excuses when GT gets their butts handed to them again by the UGA Billdogs. As I have previously stated (and you know that it is true), many, many Techie fans were blogging about how great GT was and how they were going to hang 50+ points on UGA next month. Tough loss, but we are young and wiil improve. Just a thought—-I feel llike Coach Johnson should have put Jaybo in for a couple of series after Nesbitts first fumble. A change of pace would have helped at that time—-maybe Jaybo could have moved the team and it would have given Josh some time to think. Didn’t i read somewhere that Coach Johnson planned to play Jaybo some?

Heads up Jackets!

Yes, we lost the game Saturday. But our team never quit, and we actually had our chances to win the game. Sometimes turnovers don’t hurt you too much. Other times, like Sat., they happen at the very worst possible times. That was a big part of our loss on Sat.

You can still tell that the attitude of this team and this staff is totally different - for the better. They always play to win, regardless of the situation! I’m not concerned about this team or CPJ or his staff. I am confident that they will get it done. It was sad to lose the game, but we must learn from it and get ready to play FSU. Should be a great game, win or lose.

We have a great coach and staff and a resilient, tough team. We had a set back, but it is not the end of the world. Take a chill pill and relax… it’s gonna be alright!

I love the Yellow Jackets!! How ‘bout YOU!!

Go Jackets and God Bless!!

Anyone wanna take a bet that GT doesn’t turn the ball over the next game? Come one….bet me. GT will be just fine and this is a toddler team. I’m sick of being a Tech fan b/c of other band wagon fans who dominate the media, the blogs, and try to run one of the best coaches in college ball out of town during his first season. Makes me sick. GT will be just fine if they can cure the fumbles. This entire season is a learning curve for CPJ and his players. New offense, new positions, 22 underclassmen playing. The future is looking good. This loss hurts but 2 years down the road, you won’t even remember it.

Some of you folk should be ashamed of yourselves! We lost a close game to a hot team. 6 and 2 is most respectable! Nesbitt is a great athlete that had a bad day. Perhaps Shaw should have seen some game time, but you have to remember that this style of offense keeps pounding away at the opposing defense until it gets a big play. Without the benefit of hindsight, coach felt that Nesbitt was his best option. For the guy that partied with his frat brothers from 21 years ago and is ashamed to go to church and work, perhaps a little perspective should be embraced and less trash talking would spare you the humiliation of facing those that endured your hot air in the first place! No way did you think tech would be THIS good at the beginning of the season! Not sure what you do for a living but church carries a greater message than a win loss column that will be forgotten in a short time!

Nesbitt is fine athlete, but GT wins over UVA with Shaw at QB. If same GT team shows up for remainder of season, expect maybe one more win. Wish this were not true. Hope CPJ and team feel trully challenged, particularly on 11/29. We’ve all seen ugly in Athens but rarely get surprised.

And the really sad news is that, in a terribly weak conference, we are not able to dominate or even win consistently. Worse still, the ACC and Big East will get a BCS spot while great teams from the Big 12 and SEC do not.It is also very humiliating to see tickets being advertised all over the internet. Can’t we find a charity like maybe BBBS to give tickets away to fill the stands?

UGA7…please!!!

What so called key players have injuries? Moreno? Stafford? How about on that defense? Only injuries you guys seem to have is on the line…and that hasn’t hurt you that much so get over yourself! A missing Word-Daniels being replaced with a unexperienced freshman got beat on 2 long TD passes. This is not the norm. When those UGA receivers are covered by that underrated secondary in Athens, Stafford is going to see a lot of that game on his back…but I guess that will be due to frogs with wings and injured lineman huh?

Why is the stench of Chan Gaily suddenly wafting over GT again? We need to call the exorcist that purged that spirit last winter to come back for a follow-up treatment! :>(

Paul, you don’t have as long as Gailey to get something done. Lose the 8-game win record against UGa(“the Drought”), and it will be over faster than you can blink!

Virginia played with more emotion than Tech. The sense of urgency that their tailback Peerman exhibited, time and time again, never seemed to be returned by the Tech players. Peerman could have started for most NFL teams this weekend and Virginia’s quarterback, whom no one had payed any attention to (more was discussed about the departed/expelled quarterback), simply played like a Jay Cutler or a Matt Ryan. So, they should be commended. However, I have one area of criticism for Paul that just won’t go away. As coach of the team, Paul had made comments (I am assuming he made the comments as they were reported twice in the AJC) stating that Jaybo Shaw would come into the game for “at least a couple of series, I just can’t tell you when.” After making such a big deal about the timing of the substitution, (there was never any ambiguity regarding the actual substitution, just the timing of it), he then proceeds to continue with Josh as OUR quarterback for the entire game. Now this makes him out to be unreliable, and one whose word you cannot trust. As a player, I would look long and hard at what happened when making any decision regarding Tech. Why in the world would he make such a profound statement earlier in the week and then not follow through with his promise. There were two ideal opportunities for Jaybo to enter the game, none more perfect than after the first two possessions of the second half. Now, unless Jaybo was injured, sick, or Paul just wanted to put Virginia on notice that they should prepare for both quarterbacks, I can’t fathom why he would lie to his players, coaches, and Georgia Tech fans. Did I miss something along the way? If so, someone please let me know. Thanks.   I do think Paul is the right coach for Georgia Tech, I just wish he would do what he says he is going to do. Go Jackets!

Those of you bashing the offense and Nesbitt are idiots. If you watched the game, you would have seen why we lost. It wasn’t the offense or offensive line, for once. Our defense didn’t tackle. If you try and tackle a power runner around his shoulder pads, you lose. That is what we did all game. Count the number of missed tackles we had. Our defense needs to stop listening to everyone say how good they are and get back to the basics. Low, form tackling would be a good start! Stop trying to blow everyone up so you can get on SportsCenter! Just tackle someone!

People people people RELAX! One loss and you idiots start jumping ship! THIS IS OUR FIRST YEAR WITH A NEW COACH, NEW OFFENSE…new everything. What, are you p** that PJ has surpassed expectations?! Are you p** that we are 6 and 2 rather than 2 and 6?! What is it really? Are you p** that the dogs won and we lost?! Get over yourselves. You act like this killed our season. GO back 2 months and everyone was screaming “rebuilding” and now we lose the second game out of 8 we’ve played and you start crying. Well, don’t come back to the games. I would rather have 10 faithfuls than 40,000 maybe fans. F off and go root for someone else. You make me sick! We’ve waited since 1990 to get back to good. Now we have a coach that you know will win, has already proved he can win and now you stab him in the back before his first year is complete?!! We don’t deserve a good team with pathetic fans like some of you. If you can coach better, then get out from behind the computer and do something about it otherwise I suggest you leave it to the guys that’s been doing it their whole lives. What a bunch of retards. Today, after reading some of this bullsh#t, I am embarrassed to be associated with any of you as a GT fan. Any other fan of any other team should be allowed to come over on this blog and make fun of us and smack talk because you whiny little b*** deserve it.

WOW!! What a bunch cry babies we are. This makes me sick. GT is 6-2, second in the Coastal, and having a much better year than expected. And don’t tell me any of you thought we’d be at 6-2.

Nesbitt is fine. UVA stunk it up early for reasons they probably don’t know, but they have shown in recent weeks that they can play. They are huge and that RB is awesome, very Tashard Choice like.

It might sound crazy, but GT actually matches up better with FSU, small and fast. UNC will be a tough test, but we should get better pressure against their smaller line. Miami should be a win, and UGA, who knows how CPJ will prepare the team for the rival, ala George O’leary.

Need a big crowd Saturday, if nothing else, to drown out the FSU band. Stay on board, and watch out for Tech this year and many years to come. Go Tech!!

Yeah right. Do you think there are a bunch of great coaches waiting in the wings to take the Tech job? I’m a Tech fan, but a realistic Tech fan. By all indications, Tech’s got an a* kicking coming right after Thanksgiving. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think so.

So you’ll probably be the guy to start the FirePaulJohnson.com website. Before you do, you better ask yourself, then what?

Since you Tech fans wont bring out the number….I will. That would be 7 straight years the DAWGS have beat Tech, and 14 of the last 17 years to boot. Now, I will talk like a Tech fan, since the zebras cost you every game you play. If it weren’t for the Zebras, Georgia would’ve beat Tech in 98, and 99, so Tech only has 1 legitimate win over Georgia in the past 17 years.

I wouldn’t of brought this up, but when you nerds talk about how you’re going to beat Georgia after losing to a lower tier school, you deserve it! I’ve heard this tale before. “We’re going to be Georgia this year.” I believe I heard this cry last year, the year before that, the year before that…….

Tech, you will be Georgia….someday. It’s kinda like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Peppermint Paddy will let him kick it someday…someday…someday.

We’ve won 6 and lost 2 games (by 10 total points). We are competitive with a new coach/staff, scheme, etc..Turnovers will hurt nomatter what scheme you run but don’t let that hurt the aggressiveness. We still could have won this game and did’nt play that well after the first quarter. Somehow we have to figure out a way to run the triple option, mix in some short controlled passes and some long ones and get some balance to make sure these teams don’t stack the deck against us. We need to try to get our Qb’s in the 55% plus completion range in passing. These next four games are going to be real tough so one game at a time.

Forgot, in case many missed it Duke beat Vandy in Nashville. Vandy played GA. tough. The SEC is overrated this year two really good teams, two good teams and the rest would have a hard time in the ACC. Don’t get down on the option but hope that we can improve our passing ability out of the option, kind of like Fridge had at one time at Tech.

One more rant. CPJ and the players pleaded for a sell-out crowd and 12th man against UVA. No dice. No. 18 nationally and a chance to take control of the Coastal and we can’t even get 50,000 fans.

I haven’t missed more than a dozen games home or away in 20 years. I don’t think it would matter who coaches at Tech or how many championships they win. The Georgia Tech fan base is the WORST in competitive D1-A college football. All time, Tech’s on the field accomplishments match up with ever traditional power in the country, including UGA, ND, Mich, USC, etc. It just makes no sense that we have to rely on getting 15-20K visiting fans to sell out in an average size college fotball stadium. Just plain pitiful.

By ga_tech_92

UVA was bigger on both lines of scrimmage and the RB seemed faster than anyone on our D. Those factors make UVA a better team. We had too many turn overs to deserve to win. Coach Johnson’s teams notoriously struggle with turnovers the first year. Give them time. Abandoning ship, refusing to watch x player, or anything similar will NOT help the situation. Sticking with your team hell or high water, win loose or draw WILL help the situation.

Please, no one, try to start a QB argument. Coach sees both guys every practice and coach wants to win more than anyone. If he feels like Jaybo would be the better guy, he would be starting. In Coach Johnson we must trust.

I’m no Gailey fan, but sticking with R.Ball looks like it made sense, based on how Bennet has done since Ball left…

I would like to have seen R.Ball in this offense :)

BobTheGTBuilder - In regards to your comment about CPJ’s offensive linemen recruits. I’ve personally heard him state that he would prefer big guys over small guys. The thing is, he will get guys who are football players, not just heavy guys. We don’t have a history of recruiting the biggest baddest O-linemen year after year anyway. He will get the best guys he can get. He will NOT intentionally pass over a good big guy, for a good small guy…however…he might pass over a average big for a good small. Time will tell, but let’s not kid ourselves, we’ve never been able to consistently get the blue chip big boys.

Listen fellas. I hear what everyone is saying but here are the simple facts. I have been to 3 home games this year and these are the facts. #1 this offense will not work consistently in the ACC. Running the ball over and over again right up the middle for a 1 yard gain or loss just won’t cut it. Yes we pitched the ball with success early but once UVA made the adjustment, the offensive day was over!!!! #2 The offensive line plain sucks!!!!! This is the worst line in D-1.

3 Our defensive secondary also sucks! Without the d-line this defense is weak…period. #4 Our passing game is non-existent. This makes our offense SUCK! #5 Nesbitt cannot run this offense successfully. He doesn’t know what he is doing and he fumbles in key situations. 6 inside the 20 this offense really sucks! There is no threat of the pass and no one to throw to anyway. I think Paul Johnson sucks period. Yes he is better than Gailey but who isn’t. Tech will not win another game this season. Mark it down! Also, I can post anything I want. To you tech fans that say otherwise kiss my a$$.

All I’m saying is Tech fans need to quit whinning everytime you get beat about how you’re going to beat Georgia come Thanksgiving. All Georiga fans talk about after a loss, is how bad we played, and how badly we need to improve.

Tech is not a rival for us. You haven’t been for many years. That’s what happens when you suck year in and year out. I don’t care if we go another 28 years without winning a National Championship. It will be worth it to continue to hear Tech fans talk about how much smarter they are than us, while we kick your a__ on the football field!

I don’t see it this year or any other year frankly. I am tired of this bs from the GT posters here. GT isn’t gonna beat UGA get it through your freakin’ heads. GT isn’t gonna beat FSU, Miami or UNC either. 6-6 this team will go and no bowl game either. PJ will not get it done and GT will be in the same position again next year. The GT offense is a turnover waiting to happen with no passing ability!!!!!!!! PJ’s sucess in D-1 is over. Recruit all the guys you want. This offense sucks! GT’s defensive line is good and one linebacker (Griffin) everyone else sucks. Yeah, Morgan Burnett too. 3 of his ints were lobs…

Yes, I did post before the Clemson game that we wouldn’t have another win. So, I will eat my words on that one. Nice memory! However, I didn’t realize the refs would give us the game! (See holding call, see pass interference call)If I had known that, I would have posted otherwise and will recant these comments if the refs want to oblige again. My argument still holds water even at “6-2” as you say. FYI we are still on pace for 4th in the Coastal!!!!!! That is the preseason projection!!!! Where do you see us getting another win? FSU’s defense is 100 times as good as UVA’s and we haven’t beaten them since they joined the ACC! UNC is gonna kill GT, there defense is also 100 times better than UVA. Miami is the only game that is a possibility, but the way that GT’s defense played against UVA in the secondary and how our offense is PATHETIC I wouldn’t put $1.00 on it. UGA? Please, UGA is gonna beat Tech. GT might not lose 50-10 but it isn’t gonna be pretty. If Verica goes 29-39 then Stafford will go 35-39. Anyway, calling me a joke and embarrassing. The only thing that has been a joke and embarrassing is GT’s football program. As a fan, who pays to see the games, I have the right to criticize them and Paul Johnson. No one paid my tuition for school! No one paid me millions to coach a consistently underachieving football team. You have to admit, no matter what you think of me or my attitude, Paul Johnson has now failed in his biggest game at GT. Finally, you think PJ is gonna get better next season. What? Everyone else is gonna get worse? Please! FYI an ad hominem is not a good argument. Consequently, I will refrain from making one here.

Why is it pathetic to not sell out our stadium?

  • Our school is very small, so there are not a lot of butts on campus.
  • Football is not king in the ACC.
  • Our students come from all over America, not mostly from GA…they graduate and go all over America also…(ie…they aren’t local to attend games)
  • We don’t have a bazzillion casual fans like the State Football Factory School to fill the seats.
  • Our dedicated fan base is small, that’s no one’s fault. Per person, we donate more than almost any other group to our school. Conclusion: man for man (or woman) we contribute more individually than most any other school…that’s what we have control over…we do not have control over being ‘small’ and all the other stuff above.

Also, the average Tech fan’s personality is like a scientist, computer guy, engineer, chemist…..these sorts of people don’t put football as their top priority in life, nor do they scream their heads off like fanatial fans might. It is what it is, but they are people and they donate more than most anyone else on the planet to their school.

    Lay off the fans.

If you want to pack the stadium, double enrollment and give 95% Academic Exceptions to the football players (instead of 5%) like other football factories. You are comparing a football factory to a small high-tech school. Apples to oranges. The fact that we actually beat UGA occationally, is an insult to UGA and all their blue chippers.

I am proud to be Yellow Jacket. Let’s go Coach Johnson…let’s go Jackets!!

I remember you sports show on Sunday (WSB) with the local sportwriters, and it brought a lot of insight to this area (1960’s). I agree with the situation, and Coach Johnson didn’t. Although, UVA is somewhat recent as a rivalry, it had been a good one (1990 being the zenith). Too many times the coaches are looking at all games as the same, but beating UVA would have set the table for the rest of the season. At some point you have to win the tough game, and Tech still has the opportunity against FSU, and UNC. However, this team isn’t ready for a top team like UGA, and that becomes a notch on his record against him. He only get’s so many before he get’s gone.

    Navigator…

We we beat a ACC defending champ…barely lost to one other…destroyed a team that Auburn and other SEC teams were neck and neck with…yet…you say “at some point you have to win a tough game”?

THE TEAM HAS ALREADY FAR EXCEEDED ANY SANE EXPECTATION DURING A COACHING CHANGE…

People are insane. I knew as soon as we lost a couple games people would freak out and the sky would fall on them.

    (try this one instead)

    GO JACKETS, we believe!!!

To anyone who brags that UGA will beat us, I have this to say to you: “are you a freaking genious or what? Is it the year after year of top 5 recruiting that gave it away or what?” If we aren’t a rival, then why are you here? Wake up…one school is a tiny school with rich tradition…the other school is a modern day football factory…it’s not complicated guys. We will beat UGA again one day, because that’s the law of chaos, but any UGA fan who brags about beating GT is like a 15 year old bully bragging about beating up a 10 year old……hint……YOU SHOULD NEVER LOSE…BUT YOU WILL EVENTUALLY…GT doesnt’ matter to UGA…until we beat them. I don’t expect to consistently beat them, due to their insane resources, but I do expect we can make it competitive one day again.

Scott - take a break. First year of new coach, new system, etc. I guess if you were and Alabama fan you would’ve given up on Saban last year too.

You might be a fan, but obviously not a student of the game.

CPJ is a proven coach and will win big in Atlanta.

For you gaggers - enjoy your win from last Saturday you will only have two more this year. Count on it.

Aw-w-w FURMAN. You disappoint me. You left out VIRGINIA’s impressive late victory over my alma-mater, THE UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND. Ranked ninth in 1-AA or the FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION as the current vernacular dubs it. RICHMOND could have won that game if they had believed. Behind 3-0 with nine minutes to go in the fourth.

Mister Bisher, with all due respects, this loss was very characteristic of Tech. Running a “triple option” or whatever as you call it, is reminiscent of the inability to count to four as in 2004!Number four is passing the ball upon which Tech failed miserably.I guess it takes so much time learning to take the snap from center, then handing the ball to the first option, determining whether to leave it or yank it, keep it yourself, or pitch it 3-4 yards,is very exhausting. No time to learn to run a pass route or throw an accurate pass.Need I say more??

Tech will get over this loss and move on to win the rest of the season. Give Johnson a break, it’s his first season and he’s doing great

And for those that are already talking trash about this team, STFU!! IF YOU GOT NOTHING GOOD TO SAY, THEN DON’T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!

    GOOOO JACKETS!!!

I’m a big fan of Coach Johnson and his offense. 6-2 … . hell yeah! I had estimated 11-1 after our loss to VT, but alas, I am wrong. We are young, the offense is totally new - that being said, firm up on the fumbles and we probably win. I was more disappointed with Nesbitt getting sacked for huge losses - he should have thrown the ball away. I think UVA was good but have to think FSU is much better. We shall see.

Paul Johnson needs to get over Nesbitt and play Jaybo Shaw…he’s their only chance. Shaw can at least hold on to the ball and can pass and run.

Georgia Tech has been terrible for the last decade and you finally get one of, if not THE, best coach in the nation and all you do is whine in his first year. In my mind GT does not deserve Johnson. You are 6-1 and ranked and its home coming. Packed house right? Wrong, not even close. I really hope GT does good when Johnson is there because Johnson is a great coach and a great man. Fans at Georgia Southern worship the ground he walks on. So do the Navy fans and soon you will to. But I just hope when he does win, and he will, that every fan that says negative comments about him doesnt come to a game. He doesnt need you spoiled people who have not had a real football program in a decade. And yea i know i will hear the ACC championship argument. That is crap the entire ACC was terrible that year. Its ok though sit at your computers and engineer something and when that BCS bowl win comes in the next couple of years do us all a favor and stay at your desk on game day. Oh and P.S watch out GT. Remember Clemson now has know coach and Johnson has always been a huge favorite of the Clemson fans who wanted Bowden gone. Watch what i say. Clemson and its packed stadiums and good fans will come a calling on Paul Johnson.

Hey Scott. I post watever I want on hear to. Your arguments are weak and pesimistic. They are also hard to understand. Remember you have to remove the dick out of your mouth before you speak not after. Scott STFU and if GT football is not your life then why are you on here so much and goin to these games. I personally invite you to not come to another game. Have a great day Scott:)
