Are the markets affecting your mood?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Updated on 11/18: Now that we all feel the crunch of the market, stress is on the rise. How are you coping? What do you do to reduce stress? Sleep? Eat? Hang out with friends? Is it working? Are you optimistic?
Ups and downs in rapid succession. Eyes glued to price fluctuations. Is the market crisis having an effect on your mental health? The Salt Lake (Utah) Tribune reports that telephone help lines have directed callers to mental-health services at levels not seen since Sept. 11.
Some people can’t bear to look and some simply can’t look away. Is following the recent financial news too stressful, or is it too vital to block out? Have you noticed any changes in your behavior, such as increased irritability?

Well, I did look at my 401k and that’s 2 yrs of my retirement income gone. So far I still have a job, which is a major deal. Although I’m told to focus on the “now”, how can you not worry about the future? I have no clue what steps I can make to prepare for an uncertain future.

I used to work in mortgage back securities in Wachovia. This economy will present many challenges. Neither candidate has good economic plans. Obama talks well but his plan is no good. McCain is pretty much the same as Bush so it does not look too promising either. However, with that said the economy will recover in time.
Atlanta mismanagement of resources will ultimately hurt Atlanta big time. No major transit improvements have been made in the last 10 years. The sprawl capital with long commutes and horrific traffic will be costly when trying to attract new businesses into Atlanta.

Joe, if you are (or ever will become) serious about a recruiting firm for baby boomers, let me know. I’m a boomer and have been in recruiting for 17 years. I have quite a bit of experience to offer, especially considering that most people younger than the boomers are clueless as to how to deal with people in the business arena.

I see a baby boom in nine months! If folks are staying home more and get bored then we will have some new borns in no time at all!!! The internet is a place many are going more and more to escape to sites that are geared to help with fantasy, etc. Got to see which of these companies are traded on the stock mkt. Bush stimulus checks helped the porn industry to have record sales.

Now I understand why Jesus said the things he did. He pointed to the fact that the riches of this world would fail (Luke 16:9) and he mentions how we will always have the poor with us (John 12:8). He really showed where our priority needs to be and what work we need to be focused on (Matthew 6:22-33, Matthew 19:16-29). Unfortunately, many of the ones who call them representatives of him are not doing what he commanded. That is why the future is about to take some interesting turns.

Some folks made a fortune not paying taxes or unemployment funds by employing millions of illegals here. They stole enough to not suffer what many of us long ago knew,(albeit ignored by the suspect media)was a serious recession.Despite for sale signs every other block, massive unemployment of real citizens, the police-protected sharks(picking meat out their teeth)wants us to”don’t worry,be happy” !

The future might take some interesting turns, but it has nothing to do with Jesus. Urgh.
I just checked my 401k for the first time in over a month. Down 35%. HUGE loss of investments (well over a year’s salary). With 20+ years until retirement I’ll just hope this turns around. More bummed about a side mutual fund used to save for a car with a $2500 loss in the last 12 months. Would have been better putting the cash under my mattress.
I still have a decent job and am not that worried overall. Refinanced my home at an incredible rate recently. I’ve always been frugal and it’s paid off in times like this. I don’t really have to change my lifestyle much.
