Take time for you
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
What can seem like a chore for some is very relaxing for others. Some of my friends and family think I’m crazy because they say I can’t relax. I’m always on the go, and my escapes often involve sports or other physical activities. However, when my body needs a break, I try to listen — like I did last weekend when I went to Piedmont Park and fell asleep on a hill in the warm afternoon sun. I also enjoy walks along the beach, especially at sunrise when hardly anyone is around, except for wildlife and the occasional beachcomber. For others of us, relaxing means spending time in a bubble bath, sipping a cup of tea or sleeping late. Do you spend your time, doing something — or nothing — to escape life’s craziness?

It’s amazing what one bottle of Atlanta Brewing Company’s Summer Brew Hefeweizen can do for you after a long day. Just one, that’s all I need.

I read, whether it be the printed word or on a computer screen. I do like the feel of words on paper in my hands the best, though.

I have turned my home into the most desirable place for me to relax than any other. My environment + my music = laid back relaxation! If you can’t relax at home, you need to re-evaluate. The beach is nice, the park is nice etc., but there’s nothing like chillin’ at home!

Early Saturday mornings, watching the sun rise from the Atlantic Ocean or the Mediterranean Sea. We choose our direction as the wind bathes us(me and my Harley). Beautiful…Enjoyable…Relaxing, and most of all - NO Traffic.

I go camping to relax. There’s something about waking up to birds chirping and wildlife wilding away that recharges my batteries. Sure it’s got lots of stuff to take care of, but like many, I don’t like to sit still for too long so camp cooking and various chores aren’t work at all to me. Also a nice hike in a state park is great for a quick pick-me-up.

I usually take a combination of Tylenol PM and Melatonin and sleep off the stress.

Gerald, can you come over and work on our house? That’s my dream.
I read. A lot. And to me, a break is hanging with good friends, concerts, shopping, going to Calloway or Atlanta Botanical Gardens or Stone Mountain.

A 30 minute flight after a bad day will almost always help clear the brain and relax the body.

ICI’s Those of us with ICI’s(invisible chronic illness) are virtually ignored by the health media.
I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I know you are saying”What? I never heard of that!” That is our problem. It is a genetic disorder of collagen productiion that causes poor quality of life to instant death depending on the type of the sydrome one has. The statistics are 1 in every 5,000 persons have this disorder without regard to race or ethnicity.
Mine is the hypermobile type. I was not diagnosed until age 55 which means I spent 55 years not knowing that I did everything possible to destroy my joints. I am now looking looking at surgery # 37 . Since May is EDS Awareness Month, we would like some help in getting the word out. We have PSA’s, speakers, fundraisers, etd.
The most comprehensive information can be found at www.EDNF.org (Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation) Unless we are in wheel chairs or use crutches, one would not know that we have EDS , an ICI.
I hope someone who reads this will follow through and get some information about EDS. To me , awareness means never having to hear,”EDS, What’s that?” again Looselinks
