New blog makes frugality fun
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Want to find ways to make frugality fun?
Check out our new Smart Spending blog by Mr. Cheapskatin’.
When the economy gets tough, the smart consumer finds ways to make a dollar holla and Mr. Cheapskatin’ will show you how. He’ll write about scouting the best deals at the pump and how to get the best dining deals. He’ll also ask for tips and you may be able to show Mr. Cheapskatin’ a thing or two.
“To me, saving money is fun, which allows for the occasional spending binge and provides a warm blanket of financial security,” writes our new blogger.
His devotion to keeping more dollars in his pocket has enabled him to put two kids through college, with a third entering the pipeline, and avoid (for the time being, anyway) a full-time job. But he still enjoys life - albeit frugally.
Look for other smart tips on our Your Money page.

Frugality should always have been a necessity - not on every single item - but as a normal event. If that was true a lot of the issues we’re having now wouldn’t be issues. People wouldn’t have high credit card debt and they wouldn’t have bought houses they couldn’t afford. Americans save less of their income than other industrialized nations and we’re paying the price now. Our society has become a consuming society - all the ads are about having more, bigger, faster etc.

Let me get this straight:
You’re going to offer financial advice from an unnamed expert?
Maybe he’ll share his tips for penny stocks while he’s at it?

As a fan of Clark Howard, I’m looking forward to this blog. Americans have moved away from quality and have been on a massive shopping spree of cheap stuff for decades, but now it’s hit the fan and we’re shipping our money to China and other Third World countries.
As a child of Depression era parents but raised during the materialistic 80’s, I feel I struggle between both worlds, but am trying my best to land in the “frugal but smart” camp. I can’t wait to read Mr. Cheapskatin’ and other people’s tips, and I hope to contribute as well.
Keep on savin’!
