Photo galleries enhanced for ease

We’ve redesigned one of the most popular features on our website — our photo galleries — so you can enjoy them even more.

Check out the new look and enhancements: http://projects.ajc.com/gallery/list/recent/. By offering a thumbnail image and sorting galleries by category, we’ve made it easier to browse the latest galleries and to search for past galleries.

Also, we’re introducing daily “Top Picks,” showcasing the best galleries, and “Today in Photos,” images selected from local, national and international news offerings.

We’ll be back to tell you about even more new features on the photo galleries soon.

Meanwhile, we hope you like what we’ve done. Let us know what you think and what features you’d like to see in future designs.

UPDATE: Design and functionality / March 18, 2008

Thanks for all the feedback, your comments are very helpful.

The slowness you may be experiencing is because of a server issue that we are working on and did not come about by implementing the new design.

We are trying to replicate problems readers are having but many times the issues depend on the operating system version and the web browser you are using so if you have that info please let us know.

Also, fixes for several of the problems mentioned are in the works (the “flash” of the thumbnails, the weird resizing of the photos as they load). A few of you have mentioned that you can’t get back to the page you were on before viewing the gallery - if you use the “back button” of the browser it should take you back to the page (the back button on the gallery takes you back through the photos you viewed). If the browser “back button” isn’t working for you, please let us know.

We’ll continue to monitor the posts and work on improvements.

New Blog: Keep up with The Running Report

AJC reporter Adrianne Murchison will once again run in the ING marathon on March 30.

Last year was a comedy of errors, as she did everything wrong to prepare for the race.

This time she is taking a more educated approach — and blogging about the experience for Better Health.

Share your running tips and track her progress on her blog, The Running Report.

Check out her first entry: Why am I running a marathon (again)?!?!
