Lee brings Black College experience to N.C. A&T

North Carolina A&T will have a new coach on the sideline next season, but he isn’t new to Black College football.

Alonza Lee Sr. has been hired as the Aggies’ new coach and will bring more than 25 years of experience to the A&T program, including a previous stint as the program’s defensive coordinator. Lee has spent the past three seasons as defensive coordinator at Morgan State, helping the Bears rank among the nation’s best defenses in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA).

Lee served as A&T’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 2003-05 and has also worked at Florida A&M, Howard and Hampton.

“Alonzo Lee has been an accomplished coordinator and assistant in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for many years,” North Carolina A&T athletics director Wheeler Brown said in a statement released by the school. “He knows this conference, what it will take to win in the conference, and will bring the needed toughness and discipline our football program has lacked over the past few years.”

Lee replaces former coach Lee Fobbs, who was fired two days following the team’s 42-7 loss to Delaware State Oct. 18.

Tennessee State’s Williams helps East to Shrine win

Javarris Williams rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown to help the East squad to a 24-19 victory over the West in the East-West Shrine Game in Houston.

Williams scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter that gave the East a 14-3 lead. Williams’ run was set up by a 47-yard run by Nebraska’s Marlon Lucky, who also had a TD and lead the East with 68 rushing yards.

Lonzo Lee

Aggies just got one of the best defensive minds and motivators in football period. Lonzo will make A&T proud - dont know about their offense - but the defense will be nasty, like a pack of wild dogs. And we all know defense wins games.

Lee’s defensive skills are out-dated and predictable. He is not good at making in- game adjustments and quite often doesnt accept responsibility for having his players unprepared. I like the guy and wish him well (accept against Hampton, but after playing for him for two years at HU, his weaknesses were clear. After watching his defenses recently, he still has not made the adjustments. Good luck Bulldogs, and go Pirates (aka the real HU)

This move won’t make much difference. South Carolina State is still the standard in the MEAC!!!! Buddy Pough has the right formula and SCSU will reign supreme for a long time to come, we’ll STILL spank those Aggies every year in the finale (9 years and counting!!!)……GO BULLDOGS!!!!!!!!!!
