ESPN GameDay coming to FAMU

Watch out FAMU - ESPN will be coming to the yard on Saturday.

The multimedia giant will bring its popular GameDay show to the Florida A&M campus this weekend, the first time the show will broadcast from the campus of an historically black university. The two-hour live broadcast will begin at 10 a.m. and precedes the MEAC showdown between the Rattlers and Hampton scheduled for 1 p.m.

“It is an honor to be the first historically black university to host ESPN’s College GameDay,” FAMU president James H. Ammons said in a release on the MEAC website. “We look forward to having ESPN on our beautiful campus as we take on the Hampton Pirates.”

FAMU is 7-3 overall and 3-3 in the MEAC while Hampton is 5-4, 4-2.

Coaching change at Fort Valley: Deondri Clark has resigned as the Wildcats’ head football coach, but will remain with the university in an administrative capacity. Fort Valley won five of its last six regular-season games, including a 15-6 victory at Stillman last week in the season finale.

Sadly…….. This will be a one time event after Lee Corso gets hit with a stray bullet.

We’ve got love for Mr. Corso down in Tallahassee, being the FSU man that he is. Nothing will happen to him or anyone … The only thing that will happen is that the country will get a chance to see what a fine institution we have.

I just hope Corso puts the FAMU drum major hat and staff on when he does his pick of the game!

What a first! Too bad it had to be a typical drag session against Hampton; bring Tuskeegee or even Albany St so the Rattlers can STRIKE….STRIKE…AND STRIKE AGAIN!!!!!!

It’s good to see ESPN come down to our school. We will show the country how we do it at an HBCU - showing pride in our school, having fun and doing it all with class and style.

If ESPN had to pick a historically black university to be the first, it chose the right one in FAMU. Good job ESPN and hopefully another black university will get the honor of hosting the show sometime in the future.

Even though I’m a proud TSU Alum who gets tired of losing to FAMU every year I have to give props for this one. I may have to check this out.

This is a great day for our football programs. I don’t live any where near Florida, but I hope that all the local folks turnout and holla loud for the cameras. Make good signs, support your school even if you don’t go to FAMU or Hampton. A good turnout and loud fans always makes it easier for ESPN to decide to come back.

I agree with HowardMan - this is a good thing for Black College football programs. The country will get a chance to see what FAMU is all about and maybe ESPN will find its way to another HBCU school in the future.

It probably won’t happen since it’s early in the season but it might be cool for ESPN GameDay to come to Atlanta for the Tennessee State-FAMU game. If I remember correctly, ESPN went to the Bayou Classic last year or the year before but I guess Saturday will be the first time on a Black College campus.

Idiots like BravesFan aside, it’s GREAT that GameDay is heading to FAMU this weekend (if though I’m a die hard TSU fan)…it’s great for HBCU football all around! If the TSU-FAMU game wasn’t so early in the season and played on such a big college football day every year (there are HUGE games around the country each year on that September weekend, so unfortunately I don’t think they’d ever ikely come to the Atlanta Football Classic) , it’d be the perfect game for them to come to…..

But put on a show for the nation, FAMU!

Tuskegee University has WON 26 Football Games in a row. Tuskegee has the longest winning streak of any Division in College Football in the United States.

Any -real- football coach will tell you how hard it is to go undefeated even in PeeWee football.

South Carolina State fans like to tell people that their only two losses this year were to Division 1 teams. That is true but what they don’t tell you is that they lost those games by a combined score of “71 to 0”.

Over the past two years they have lost to Division 1 teams by a combined score of “143 to 3”.

SC State played Division 1 teams but were they “really” playing them or just on the field. Clearly they were not competitive.

People should also remember that South Carolina State was a member of the SIAC Conference until the early 1970’s.

Deacon Jones, John Gilliam and many other famous SC State players got their start playing in the SIAC.

The SIAC also produced Hall of Famer John Stallworth (Ala A&M), Rayfield Wright (Fort Valley) and current NFL commentator Shannon Sharpe (Savannah State). Yes Savannah State used to be a member of the SIAC.

People everywhere should be proud of Tuskegee University accomplishments rather than try to belittle them with all these crazy irrational arguments. They have represented HBCU football well considering their very HIGH Academic standards. Many new media outlets have referred to Tuskegee as the Harvard of the South.

The Tuskegee Golden Tigers are the Golden Boys of HBCU Football ! ! ! ! !

BravesFan79, I’m 23 yrs old, and I’ve probably accomplished more than you have in your lifetime. To hear you make the stupid comments that you do is very sad. I guess you don’t watch the college games at the “white” universities where the crowd runs all over the field after the game. I guess that’s intelligent right?

If they did the ESPN Gamday at Florida St would there have been a problem? I can see how you call yourself a Braves Fan because just like the Braves you have yet to grasp the concept of intergration.
