MEAC showdown - Hampton vs. S.C. State

The showdown in the MEAC has arrived — South Carolina State will host Hampton Saturday in a game likely to decide the conference champion.

The teams are ranked second and third in this week’s Sheridan Black College poll and both are undefeated in the conference. The Pirates are embracing the importance of the game, with junior linebacker Michael Swett calling it ‘championship week’ in a story in this week’s Newport News (Va.) Daily Press.

South Carolina State coach Buddy Pough says that Hampton’s ‘the big dog right now in our league’ and knows the Bulldogs must win Saturday to win the MEAC.

“We’re the last two teams without a loss in the league and that makes it imperative that we win,” Pough told the Orangeburg (S.C.) Times and Democrat.

South Carolina State has won the last two games in the series, and should make it three with a close victory at home.

Other games to watch for this weekend …

Alabama A&M vs. Alabama State: The long-time rivals meet in the annual Magic City Classic in Birmingham. Legion Field is expected to be packed for the 67th annual game, and with actress Vivica A. Fox as the ambassador for the event, it’s definitely worth the price of admission. On the field, Alabama A&M has won three straight and five of the last six - and should win again on Saturday.

Tennessee State at SE Missouri: Let’s not forget about Big Blue since it doesn’t play in an HBCU conference. The Tigers are the only unbeaten team in the Ohio Valley Conference, and should remain that way after Saturday’s road win.

Albany State at Morehouse: The Rams should bounce back from last week’s loss to Tuskegee - and spoil Morehouse’s homecoming - with the win at B.T. Harvey Stadium.

Glad you did the right thing and picked Tennessee State to win!! Don’t know anything about SE Missouri but the Big Blue will win anyway. I think S.C. State will beat Hampton.

Leo, my brother, think you might be wrong on Hampton-S.C. State. People are thinking Hampton will lose because the game is at S.C. State. Don’t matter where it is, I think Hampton will win and continue on to win the MEAC title. Go Pirates!!!

I truly think this year Tennessee State is doing there thing and deserves to be number 1. The lost againist Florida A&M was tuff but they still played good. Not to hate or anything but Tuskegee hasn’t played anybody. TSU is holding it down this year. They are the best Black College football team this year.

Better pick HU in that match-up joust. Oops. Well, maybe. The great JOE TAYLOR is gone.

Lotta’ anger WHITE PRIDE, lotta’ anger. Did you ever see the movie ” ANGER MANAGEMENT?” Take it from someone who knows. You best drop that boatload of hate before it ruins your life. It’s a cancer man, it really is. If you think that the source of your discontent stems from childhood, as mine did, I would suggest you begin writing down past events which you consider significant. It can be freedom from that cage you’re in. Peace. I’m an OBAMA white-man myself.

BOWIE/UNION:

Gotta’ go with my homeboys, VIRGINIA UNION. ARRINGTON’s gone, and the newbie is struggling to get some serious traction. However, LITTLE late will make the difference.

ECSU/St.PAUL’S:

My former student WILLARD BAILEY is gaining serious traction at the PAULS. ECSU is tough at home, but BAILEY’s TIGERS prevail. What a coach. A winner wherever he’s been.

Well, UNION didn’t prevail. GREG needs to gear-up from here on. But I can’t find the PAUL’s-ECSU score. Wasn’t even in today’s RICHMOND paper.

Grambling is the #1 HBCU team in the nation! GSU could go to Alabama & knock off Tuskegee. Defense wins championships. Tuskegee gave up 20+ to Alabama A&M. Grambling gave up nine. Beating Morehouse, ClarkAtlanta, and Stillman year after year isn’t impressive. The SIAC is very weak. Grambling, Southern, Prairie View, and Jackson St can all beat Tuskegee. If Grambling runs the table in the SWAC, they should be black national champions.

The Tuskegee University football team extended their winning streak to 24 games. It is the longest winning streak in college football.

Tuskegee is the winningest football team in the history of Black College Football.

Their record is 108 WINS / 18 Losses over the past 10 seasons (1998 - 2008).

To the person who said Grambling State is the #1 HBCU football team in the nation I would like to state the following facts.

Grambling started the season on a five (5) LOSING streak. They lost 6 out of 7 football games before winning their last 5 games. Now all of a sudden they are the #1 team. You must be joking.

One of these outstanding victories included a win over Langston. The Langston Lions 2008 schedule includes teams such as Southwest Assemblies of God, Southern Nazarene and Bacone. I am very glad to here Grambling State plays teams with such a strong schedule as Langston. Yet they have the audacity to comment on Tuskegee schedule.

Grambling State record is 17 wins / 14 losses over the past three years.

The Tuskegee Golden Tigers have won 24 football games in a row. It is the longest winning streak in any division of college foothall.

The Tuskegee Golden Tigers are the Golden Boys of Black College Football.

THANKS ! ! !

Well, well, well….we came we saw and we conquered! SC State is back on top in the Black College Football rankings! We beat Hampton and D-State to be the undeniable king of black college football! This is our year! SBN has Tuskegee at number 1, but EVERYONE knows that SC State would runover them! First MEAC Championship, next playoff win!!! SC State SHOULD be invited back to the Atlanta classic next year! IT would b a better game and improve attendance!!!

If you haven’t notice Prairie View is 9-1. The best record in the SWAC. The rankings got to be crazy to think Gramblin or any of the top ten could beat PVAMU
