North Carolina A&T fires coach
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
North Carolina A&T fired coach Lee Fobbs Monday, two days after the team’s 42-7 loss at Delaware State. (See story).
Fobbs was 2-28 in two-plus seasons at A&T, including six straight losses after opening the season with two wins. The Aggies were 0-11 in each of Fobbs’ first two seasons.
Looking back at last weekend’s action:
• Tuskegee extended its winning streak and seized control of the SIAC title race with a 33-20 victory over Albany State. In winning its 23rd straight, Tuskegee watched as Albany State missed an extra point that would’ve broken a 20-20 tie and proceeded to score a pair of TDs to pull away in the fourth quarter.
“This was a good football team we played today. I’m happy with the win,” Tuskegee coach Willie Slater told the Montgomery Advertiser.
As for Albany State, it was the second conference loss of the season. According to an article in the Albany Herald, the Rams still are likely to advance to the Division II playoffs, but have been surpassed by Tuskegee as the toast of the SIAC.
• Clark Atlanta gave Morehouse the beat down in a game where the Maroon Tigers were “outplayed, outcoached and out-progammed” according to coach Rich Freeman’s comments to the AJC. Check out the photos from the 29-2 Clark victory.
• FAMU’s QB tandem of Eddie Battle and Curtis Pulley led the Rattlers past Southern in the MEAC/SWAC matchup. Battle, the starter, passed for one TD while Pulley, the former University of Kentucky player, had three TD passes, a TD reception and 118 yards rushing in the 52-49 victory.
“Some games I have a great game and some games he does. Tonight he was on,” Battle told the Baton Rouge Advocate. “He and I understand we’re doing this for one purpose, the team.”
• Hampton won the Battle of the Bay, defeating rival Norfolk State 35-17. According to the Newport News (Va.) Daily Press, the Pirates benefited from three big plays - TD passes of 70 and 80 yards and a 60-yard punt return - in the victory and moved a half-game ahead of South Carolina State heading into next week’s MEAC showdown between the teams.

Sorry Spelman..Oh..I mean Morehouse…Sorry. Homecoming will not be a complete success. Enjoy the festivities outside the football field! Trying to make the Div II playoffs after taking a spanking from Tuskegee. Question - What are the reasons behind Tuskegee never going to the Div II playoff game?

Reference picture #5 Clark vs. Morehouse. The tackler for Clark was Malik Jones #2.

Thats sorry Spelhouse I meant to say mission college (Is it true what they say about mission men) LOL but my rams are p** about that loss last weekend at skegee and we are definitely going to ruin your homecoming festivities.
Question - What are the reasons behind Tuskegee never going to the Div II playoff game?
Answer- they play in a annual classic on thanksgiving day which disqualifies them from particpating in the DII playoffs.

Thanks for the info. Here’s my thinking…the winning streak is a little flawed and I would consider borderline. Politics would call that Streak a Political Spin, If you can play a MEAC team during the year and not just Thanksgiving. But a win is a win. I would like to see how deep Tuskegee can go in the Div II playoff and hopefully represent the SIAC and win it ALL - Maybe take the streak to 50 in two years (more games pass the regular season) - Hypothetically speaking.

I guess for Tuskegee, there is more money and prestige in playing in a classic thats been around for many years, than to go to a div. II playoffs. By the way, that classic is also Alabama State’s homecoming. However, I too would love to see how far THE GOLDEN TIGERS can go in a playoff format.

Morehouse took it on the chin, give credit to CAU’s coach Ted Bahur, if not for horrible calls during last year game this would be 4 in a row over the House. Now, back to future business. Tuskeegee is overlooking the Mighty CAU Panthers. They have to come to our house and thanks to Morehouse our offense is clicking again. They have J. Atkinson we have Cedric Johnson, plus a tall receiver who can run and catch (Lightburn) not to mention our leading rusher Winston Thompson.

I’ve been watching SIAC games for several years, and after watching the Skeegee-ASU game on Saturday, trust me Tuskegee is much bettter off playing the Turkey Day Classic and raking in the big bucks instead of going to the playoffs. They are not a great football team, they are a decent team in a horrible conference. I am a grad & huge fan of ASU, but reality is reality, and neither of the two best teams in the SIAC would stand a chance in the D-II playoffs.

This is awesome stuff. I’ll be looking forward to this every week. Do you have a reporting schedule?
It may be time for Tuskegee to move into 1-AA and join the SWAC. They already play a few 1-AA teams and have dominated Alabama State in their rivalry over the last few years. 23 games in a row in D-2 means you’ve outgrown it.
Will you be previewing the Magic City Classic? Looking forward to it!

I agree that TU has outgrown D-2. They have an outstanding program, and could be very competitive in either the MEAC or the SWAC. Beating up on lesser competition and being the big fish in a small pond isn’t doing TU any good in the long run. Even though my hat’s off to TU for what they have accomplished historically and recently, they would gain much more respect in HBCU circles if those 23 wins had come against the likes of FAMU, SU, Hampton, SCSU, and Grambling as opposed to the likes of Miles, Stillman, Lane, etc….
It’s time for TU to prove their mettle against the big boys of HBCU football.
