Will Tuskegee’s streak finally end?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Not sure if many of you noticed, but I was perfect in predicting the winners of last week’s games …. ok, that’s not totally true.
I was 5-for-5 in the highlight games thanks to wins by Albany State, Tuskegee, Grambling, Shaw and FAMU. As for the other games, I wasn’t as lucky.
How bad was it? Two of the teams that I picked to win lost their games behind a combined score of 109-9. Yeah, I received a beatdown!
So, let me try my luck this week with the following games:
Norfolk State at Hampton: Hampton’s No. 3 in this week’s Sheridan Black College poll and faces next week’s key MEAC game against South Carolina State, Sheridan’s No. 2 team, on the road. Prime spot for a slip-up against 2-4 Norfolk State, but it won’t happen - take the Pirates at home.
Virginia State at Virginia Union: Top game in the CIAA this week. Virginia Union wins at home and keeps pace on its eventual collision course with Elizabeth City State for the Eastern Division title.
FAMU at Southern: In a matchup of the bands, take the Rattlers hands down. On the field, I like the Jags to win at home.
Morehouse at Clark: Atlanta University Center rivals are both 3-2 in the conference and both suffered losses last week. There really isn’t a home-field advantage since the schools are within walking distance, but I’ll go with Clark Atlanta.
Albany State at Tuskegee: Sheridan’s No. 1 team and defending Black College champion Tuskegee hosts Albany State in a game that should ultimately decide the SIAC champion. The Rams are back on the right track after their surprising loss to Benedict and have a pair of QBs that could present problems for the Golden Tigers. Tuskegee’s 22-game winning streak will come to an end at some point, but it won’t be this week - take Tuskegee at home.
Some other games to watch:
Winner/Loser
Tennessee State/Austin Peay
Savannah State/Miss. Valley
Grambling/Alabama State
Prairie View/Ark.-Pine Bluff
Alcorn State/Alabama A&M
Jackson State/Texas Southern
Morgan State/Howard
Delaware State/North Carolina A&T
Shaw/Chowan
Elizabeth City State/Lincoln (Pa.)
Fayetteville State/Johnson C. Smith
Bowie State/St. Paul’s
Livingstone/St. Augustine’s
Fort Valley/Benedict
Kentucky State/Miles
Stillman/Lane

LEON - You Dropped the Ball Man!…Ya killing me Petey! Per Obama - The change we seek has always required great struggle and great sacrifice. And so this is a battle in our own hearts and minds about what kind of country we want and how hard we’re willing to work for it.
So let me remind you tonight (this weekend) that change will not be easy. Change will take time. There will be setbacks and false starts and sometimes we’ll make mistakes.
But as hard as it may seem, we cannot lose hope, because there are people (SIAC) all across this great nation who are counting on us (Albany State), who can’t afford another four years without health care…I mean a 22 game win streak. GO RAMS!!!

GO RAMS!!! Remember 2004 when the Rams played them Tigers. What a comeback. A 52 yead catch as time expired the greatest game I’ve ever seen. It deserved an ESPY.

Doug,
Thanks for the response. Glad to have you as a constant reader of the blog.
Man, it was hard picking a winner of the Tuskegee-Albany State game. Albany State has been a beast for years, and you know it will be ready to play tomorrow. I’m just not sure if the Rams can win on the road.
Hey, I’ve been known to be wrong before, and I’ll be the first to admit such if I’m wrong on this one.
In the meantime, thanks again for your response and let’s keep a good convo going.

Sportsmommy,
Thanks for the response. There are a lot of Albany State fans in the area and a lot of them seem to be excited about tomorrow’s game.
I’m going to check out the Rams when they come to the ATL next week to face Morehouse. Maybe they’ll be coming here on the heels of a victory.

Well, we were defeated, but as Donnie McClurkin said ” We fall down, but we get up” LOL… So I think the Rams will be able to get back up against the Maroon Tigers this week….
