Thank goodness for Tuskegee, N.C. Central
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Ouch!
Not a good week for picking winners.
Of the six games highlighted going into the weekend, only two of my picks prevailed. After having some success in the first week, I get two-thirds of my picks wrong? Thirty-three percent is good if you’re a hitter in Major League baseball, but not too many other places.
• Tuskegee came through by defeating Alabama A&M in the Circle City Classic. QB Jacary Atkinson was the truth for the Tigers, throwing for two touchdowns and running for another.
More than 47,000 watched the game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the new home of the NFL’s Colts.
• North Carolina Central held on the defeat N. Carolina A&T in the 80th game of their long series. What better way to get your first win of the season than to beat your rival?
Well, that was the end of my success over the weekend. I picked the eventual losing team in the next four games ….
• Should’ve taken the advice of my co-worker who told me that Hampton would defeat Delaware State despite the game being on the road. I’ll listen next time.
• Playing on the road also didn’t stop South Carolina State from remaining unbeaten in the MEAC after its win over FAMU.
• After winning three straight on the road, Clark Atlanta had nearly 18,000 in the house in its three-point loss to Savannah State.
• Prairie View had the big offensive numbers, but it was Grambling who stole the show in its 40-16 victory before more than 54,000 at the State Fair Classic in Dallas.
So, what did you think about last weekend’s games? Did Tuskegee cement its claim as the top black college team with its impressive win?
Let me know what you think.

For Jewell Rollen: Do I detect a bit of envy. The GOLDEN TIGERS have been the “JEWELL” of black college football for several years. GO SKEGEE!

I think Tuskegee’s win should leave no doubt that it’s the best black college football out there right now. As for the rest of the picks, you should have known better than to pick Prairie View over Grambling. Those other games were real close, but Grambling put the beat down on Prairie View.

Big win by Hampton over Delaware State. Location didn’t matter, Hampton was going to win. Kind of surprised South Carolina State won at FAMU, they must be pretty good after all.

Prairie View over Grambling? Highly Questionable. I think CAU is about to come back to reality. No more games against other HBCU’s for my beloved Alma Mater but we can still win the OVC.
Let’s Go TSU!!!!!

FAMU FOR LIFE!!!! NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A RAtTLER. After we soundly defeated the puppies from TENN ST., we allowed the team from SC to escape our den with a lucky run. Make no mistake about it FAMU IS THE BEST!!!. Until that team from Alabama can man-up and play in a real conference, they will continue to be the pussycats from Tuskegee. The SIAC is a good conference to practice, but the MEAC is where men compete with men. RATTLER FOR LIFE, FAMU FOREVER…

Glad to see two Alabama teams brought out 47,000 in Indiana. They might have pulled 60,000 in Birmingham though.
