Are you burned out from holiday cooking?

For many of us, our kitchens saw more action in the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas than they had in the preceding 11 months.

Whether it was lovingly recreating traditional family dishes that make the holiday meal more meaningful or finally having a reason, and the time, to attempt slightly extravagant “special occasion” recipes clipped throughout the year, everyone I know seemed to be cooking or baking up a storm.

But now that January has rolled around, if you are like me, you’re experiencing a little cooking burnout. After putting so much effort into creating the perfect meal for each holiday, my mind is fried. I can’t seem to get excited about cooking anything right now.

What about you? How do you rev yourself up after feasting for a month?

I’ve switched from decadent recipes to lighter healthful ones - which should help with the perennial resolution.

I am completely burned out. I think it happened way before the Holidays. I cook every night except Friday nights and I am soooo sick of it. On the flip side though going out to eat all the time is a real drag too. Can’t decide where to go, it’s way to fattening…not to mention the cost. About the only time I get a break from cooking (except for Friday) is when the hubby cooks on the grill. What I need to do is buy more groceries for that big green egg….yup that’s the ticket. :)

I’m burned out, but my husband got a big green egg for Christmas, so he’s been doing the cooking practically every day since! He actually made pizza on it last night. Yum!

Atl Mom did you like the pizza? My husband made it shortly after he got the green egg and I didn’t care for it. I don’t think anyone did (even him) as he’s not made it again.

Time for a big pot of vegetable soup. Now if I could just find someone to chop those veggies….

I highly recommend getting new meal ideas at allrecipes.com. They make it easy with the creation of a personalized recipe box and an easy click shopping list creator. I especially like the reviews from people who have tried the recipe out and give advice to make it better.

i like Fer’s idea of soup. I actually made some homemade chicken soup last week and ate it several days, especially for lunch. I am also trying to clean out my cupboards and use up stuff i have on hand. i just found 2 partial bags of lentils so was going to make a batch of lentil-vegetable soup this weekend too.

I hate to cook, always have so I’ve been burnt out for years. Becoming a vegetarian made my life a little easier. The problem, there are 2 meat eaters in the house and 2 vegetarians so trying to find something that everybody will enjoy, without breaking the bank has become a challenge. Hopefully, we can get the other 2 to covert soon. smile
