Are you hitting the town on New Years?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
With Christmas over, there’s still one more holiday to bid adieu to before opening those new 2009 calendars. Most of us have barely cleaned up the discarded gift wrapping and it’s already time to start thinking about another, New Year’s Eve.
I always get sentimental about New Year’s. No matter what has gone on during the year, it is always absolutely astonishing when December 31 arrives. It seems like the years fly by quicker and quicker.
I used to like going out on New Year’s Eve. Sure you have to pick your way through the inflated priced fixed meals and terrible service, but when you get it right, there’s nothing better. I’ll never forget an amazing meal at Bacchanalia I had probably 10 years ago.
Now, with the kids older (and wallets tighter) we’re less likely to go out. We started a fondue tradition a few years ago and it’s actually fun to be able to include everyone in the celebration. So even though my teenager has more parties than I, we can still try to carve out a little family time before he ditches us for his friends.
What are your plans? Are you staying in or going out? What’s been your most memorable (and printable) end-of-the-year celebration?

We decided to go all out locally…she’s getting dolled up wearing a nice sexy dress (worn before), expensive dinner plans then ending the night with plenty of hip shaking at a big extragavant dance place. Sorry, but we don’t want to celebrate the NY’s sitting at home while watching others who left their homes to at least watch some fireworks. As 2008 showed us, life is too short and too precious to let it mentally wear your life down with worries of a bad economy, war, and crime. Put reality in the back seat for one night and try and pretend and believe there is better time in store for 2009. That’s good enough to raise your champagne glass and toast about in my book!

Yeah, and put it all on a credit card where you will pay 20% interest for the next year while you pay it off.
We’re having a community party with everyone bringing nibbles and games or watch tv or play WII. We are all working to get out of debt not deeper in it. You can have fun without spending hundreds of dollars, and I would rather be with a bunch of folks I have come to love like family than a bunch of drunk strangers.

No credit card sister…planned for it and paying cash…and while having friends over is always nice, it’s always nicer to slip out for some private catch up fun…don’t people spend thousands on cruises with strangers too. Lighten up will ya…t** for tat. You toast your way and we’ll toast our credit-free way. Cheers!
