When do you have your big holiday meal?

It’s hard to believe that Christmas and Hanukkah are next week! Between baking dozens of cookies, shopping for family and friends, attending the various school concerts and holiday parties crammed in before the vacation, it’s hard to actually think about what to make for the holidays in our own kitchens.

It seems everyone plans their major holiday “feasts” a little differently. Some have their big meal Christmas Eve, some Christmas morning and others Christmas dinner. Some do all of the above! That’s a lot of meal planning to keep straight in a short period of time.

When do you do your big meal? Have you started preparing already?

We always had the “big holiday meal” at Thanksgiving. We would then have simple munchies/nosh foods at Christmas. Trying to do 2 big meals like that twice that close together just seems like more trouble than it’s worth

We usually do it Christmas day for dinner but this year we are doing it Christmas Eve because my BIL is off 24th & 25th but he has to work (out of state) Friday morning. My husband and I usually have to work Christmas Eve but this year we’re both off. I think Christmas Eve is going to work great this year because it’s always a pain to have to tear the kids away from their toys to go to Grandma’s house for dinner Christmas Day.

My FIL’s family (hubby’s stepdad) has breakfast Christmas morning. He has a relatively small extended family and nearly everyone lives in the Atlanta area. We attend when it’s his turn to host but otherwise otherwise only he and my MIL attend. When I was a kid we had a huge breakfast and dinner Christmas Day because I have a big family and grew up in the town that was home base for the extended family. My Mama was the best cook so the out of town relatives all came to our house to eat. Those meals are some of my best Christmas memories, especially since my parents and most of my aunts & uncles are deceased.
