How do you watch those holiday pounds?

By now most of us have loosened our belt a notch or two. It starts with a steady diet of just “a piece or two” of Halloween candy through most of October. Then there’s the big blowout Thanksgiving meal and, if you are lucky, days of leftovers pie (and while you’re at it, just a dollop of whipped cream).

Blink your eye and Christmas candy is dotting the shelves. My family has already been snacking on a pre-holiday shipment of chocolate covered marshmallows my sister sent. It’s only a matter of time until we succumb to the boxes of peppermint bark and toffee that beckon us from the shelves at Trader Joe’s. I think I already gained a pound just looking at the holiday catalogues from Crate & Barrel and Wms. Somona.

How do you manage holiday overeating? Do you have any secrets to share…besides just keeping our mouth’s shut!

I noticed no one has posted…sad, sad! My suggestion is to give up, gain 5lbs and work like hell to get it off in January!

We didn’t Halloween this year,so no candy. We didn’t Thanksgiving this year so no pies, etc. We’re not going to Christmas this year either,so no weight gain.I’ve always stayed home on New Years Eve.The bride and I will come through the Holiday season with flying colors, weight wise.Money wise too. This was Black Friday. We grocery shopped and then came home. This will all be over in a few weeks and we’ll be into the heart of winter when a few extra dollars will help immensely.

Well, I took the time and effort to lose 77 lbs this past year and I definitely don’t want them back.

So, I decided on a strategy. One, I will absolutely continue my healthy diet every day that I can. I will not indulge in whatever goodies come to work. If someone gives me goodies I will have one or two, give my husband and son whatever they want, and the rest will go in the trash. Two, when we go to parties or holiday dinners I will eat and drink what I want…but make sure to eat small portions. Three, I will maintain my running schedule.

And Four, I just won’t agonize over it. If I gain a little despite my strategy then I will just focus on shedding it. I lost 77 lbs, went from a size 18 to a size 4. I know what to do and I know that it works. I have confidence that I can handle the holidays.

I would suggest joining Knuckle Up Fitness. I joined back in August and have lost 17lbs and my cholesterol has dropped to 147 from 174. If you go 3-4 times a week, the weight will come off even if you have an extra piece of pie!

Starting in September, I have now lost 40 pounds. My goal is still to lose 20-40 more pounds to get down to a healthy weight. However, when it is this time of the year, it is hard to ignore those goodies.

My suggestion is this (because it has been what I have done for the past few months and it has worked): eat what you wish — in moderation, of course. I usually have a small breakfast and a small lunch (and then I eat practically what I wish for dinner). By doing that and making sure you exercise every day for thirty minutes, you can at least maintain your weight.

This past Thanksgiving week, I have eaten like a horse. However, I managed to exercise each day and I have not gained one pound.

Hope that helps!

I have lost 35lbs since July. My goal is to maintain that until January. What I’ve done so far is I just said no to halloween candy. We’ve had a couple of people bring in homemade goodies and I politely accept 1 piece. I wrap it up and eat it at home. If I eat it at work 1 piece will turn into 3 pieces. We had 2 Thanksgiving meals in 1 week (eek). I put a spoonful of each thing I wanted on my plate and enjoyed it with no guilt. Then I had a piece of cake. I plan on doing this again for Christmas. Merry CHRISTmas everyone.

Good afternoon. To err is human, but to really foul things up requires a computer. I am from Canada and now study English, please tell me whether I wrote the following sentence: “Does prozac gain weight, therapy ultimate hgh ultimate hgh hgh no prescription required.”

With best wishes :-D, Salene.
