Do you serve wine with dinner?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
An AJC article about recipes that go well with local wines by wine writer Gil Kulers made me wonder how many of us make a glass of wine a part of our home dinner ritual. Some of us save the indulgence of a glass or two of wine for nights out on the town. But a lot of people I know routinely have a glass of wine with dinner, especially since recent health studies have shown the benefits of moderate amounts of red wine in a daily diet. I think serving a little wine with a nice roast dinner or Italian dish adds to the dining experience. On the other hand, if I am serving quesadillas or chicken nuggets, the juxtaposition just doesn’t work for me.
I know my husband, who enjoys discovering bargain wines, has found some great under $12 options, and for a dinner at home that’s about our limit.
What about you? Do you routinely include wine with dinner? How much are you willing to spend for an “everyday” wine?

I find that you can buy a decent spanish red wine for about $10.00. A tempranillo or grenache is readily available at most package or chain grocery stores with a wine section.

My husband and I usually have a glass of red wine with dinner. That may change when we have kids, but for now it’s something I look forward to after work and cooking! That said, I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, and there are some meals that wine just won’t work. So I avoid cooking those meals :)

Sure, my kids wine all through dinner. They wine about their veggies, they wine about their portions, they wine about dessert…

Sometimes, wine is dinner. Plus, I only buy wine that comes from wineries that produce 100,000 cases or less. All other wine is for the two buck chuck world.

I cook with wine, and sometimes I put it in the food….ha ha
Yes, I am a big fan of red wine. I have a couple of glasses before dinner, and one with dinner. Sometimes I have one as a night cap too.

We have wine with almost every dinner. Some things (like fried chicken and mashed potatoes or pulled pork) don’t go well with wine, but most of our meals do. We’ve done this even when the kids were young. I think it teaches them that it’s OK to drink and you don’t have to drink a lot when you drink. It’s a nice treat to have the wine - sipping while I’m cooking and at dinner. It makes the meal feel complete. And there are plenty of very good wines in the under $15 category for every day.

We have wine with dinner an average of 3 nights a week. One glass is plenty. If you find yourself “needing” wine (or other alcohol) every night, there may be a problem. But a glass of wine or beer 3 or 4 times a week is good for most people.
There are plenty of reasonably priced wines available (I would say under $20 for an “everyday” wine); right now Argentine and Chilean wines are usually a good buy due to exchange rates.
We tend to have wine with our better dinners, such as roast pork or fish. For something to go with pizza, burgers, or even those chicken nuggets, try a local beer.

Yes, I have red wine maybe two - three times a week with my meal. My husband is not a big fan of red wine. He likes sweet wine. I paid $20.00 and under for wine. I like to try different wines. If the bottle looks good I will try it. Also, I want to try the 6 grapes wine. I heard about it on the radio.
