Bubbles on Her Deathbed
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
CLASSICAL CON BLASTO blog
For the past few weeks, it’s been rumored that soprano Beverly Sills has been gravely ill.
At the peak of her career and into retirement in the early 1980s, she was perhaps the most famous classical performer in America. She’d maintained her very public appearances as recently as last fall, where she was a very chatty commentator on the Metropolitan Opera’s national movie-theater broadcasts.
Today there’s a report that Bubbles, as her publicists’ billed her, is nearing her end.
If you have memories and thoughts on Sills as a dominant American diva, why not share them?
