9/7: TV star Kathy Griffin at Fox Theatre, Somebodies, 90210
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I stopped by the Kathy Griffin late show last Friday just a couple of hours after seeing Sean Hannity and Neal Boortz. I am confident to say I was the only person who went to both shows.
Griffin is an unabashed liberal though she isn’t terribly political. She’s beloved by her “gays,” as she dubs them. And her show “Kathy Griffin: Life on the D List” has lasted four seasons on Bravo. At the Fox Theatre Friday, she made a raft of jokes about the new Republican VP candiate Sarah Palin but it was more personality based than anything else.
“As a comedian,” she told the partisan crowd, “I want to give Sarah Palin a muffin basket!”
She was impressed with Palin’s speaking ability (“She delivers like Domino’s!”) and made fun of Palin’s kids names such as Bristol and Trig. She called her Tina Fey, who she resembles. She likes Palin’s do: “She’s got a great gay doing her hair, a good Log Cabin Republican!”
“And who knew there were rednecks in Alaska with Fargo accents?”
She then found a way to segue between Palin and Michael Vick thanks to Palin’s joke about the difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom? (“Lipstick”)
“Put her in Michael Vick’s backyard!” The crowd didn’t react universally warmly to that one so she said, “I get it, Atlanta! I know where I am!”
She also namechecked other former Atlantans such as Whitney Houston (“I miss her!”) and Nancy Grace (“She’s bat** crazy!”), doing great imitations of both. She mocked Ryan Seacrest, too.
-I wrote a features piece that ran in Monday’s paper about an upcoming BET series “Somebodies” shot in Athens. The comedy is the first scripted show in the network’s 28 history. Here it is.
-In case you missed it, I interviewed a new “90210” up-and-coming star who grew up in metro Atlanta: AnnaLynne McCord. It ran in Buzz a few days ago here.
-790/The Zone has some big announcement tomorrow. Obviously, it’s nothing bad because the station is hyping it to high heaven. I’ll post it as soon as I hear what it is.
-And was last night’s MTV VMAs as dull as ever? I felt host Russell Brand was trying too hard and the Britney appearance was a yawner.

She’s one of the least talented “working” commedians out there. You’d have to be a complete idiot to put down money to see her tired old act. The only funny thing she was ever associated with was Seinfeld, and that was because of Seinfeld and the great writers on that show, not her.

Kathy is hilarious. Russell Brand had the unfortunate task of playing to a hip-hop audience that does not exactly understand British comedy, but he did try to wake them up from their drugged haze. It’s MTV that was awful, not Russell.

See girls, you too can be buttugly and still have somewhat of a career. She is ugly, even after the surgery. Is she funny? Not really but she sure is ugly. Someone may would still bone her for practice though.
