7/21: Sean Hannity gets a new contract, Real Housewives of Atlanta date set
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Syndicated talker Sean Hannity, heard locally on WSB-AM, has signed an unusual contract between his original syndicator ABC Radio and Premiere, which handles the likes of Rush Limbaugh. Plus, he gets some profits himself. So it’s worth at least $100 million over five years, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Hannity is the No. 2 radio talk-show host in the country behind only Limbaugh, with audience estimates ranging from 11 to 13 million a week. ABC will handle his syndication on ABC-owned stations while Premiere will take care of the other stations, including WSB-AM. This is a huge pay increase for Hannity.
I’ve left messages with the bigwigs at WSB-AM to see what impact this might have locally. I’m not sure how long Hannity’s contract is with the station. Effectively, its rival Clear Channel, which owns WGST-AM, will be overseeing the syndication come December. That could be awkward.
But WSB-AM is the flamethrower in Atlanta and I can’t see why Hannity would ever want to leave it. (See what happened to Dr. Laura when Premiere moved her over to GST? Her ratings dropped by half and she was eventually booted off the station.) Ironically, Hannity worked at GST from 1992 to 1996 before he went to Fox News and hit the syndication route.
Locally, Hannity’s ratings from 4 to 7 p.m. generally lag behind those of his brethren, local syndicated hosts Neal Boortz and Clark Howard, but he’s still a solid No. 1 among men 25 to 54. Hannity has been on WSB since 2001.
This contract does not affect his “Hannity & Colmes” Fox News TV show, which airs live on weekdays at 9 p.m.
-The five members of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” showed up at the NBC party for TV critics out in Los Angeles. I hope to meet with them soon, but the show doesn’t debut until Sept. 16 so there’s no rush:

-Mark your calendars: Jay Leno’s last day as host of “The Tonight Show” before Conan O’Brien takes over is May 29, 2009. In the meantime, where he goes is still up in the air.

I’m not sure if Deskins will allow Sean Hannity on WGST. After all, we might actually get listeners, which means our ratings will go above 0.4!

Ha! Ha! Ha! We’re getting Hannity! And WSB can’t stop us!!
Clear Channel took Rush away in Pittsburgh, Orlando, Minneapolis, New Orleans and elsewhere, and now the same will be done with Hannity.

I wish WSB, would start Hannity at 3:00 his normal starting time. Cutting one less hour off The Clark Howard Show would be fine, since Clark Howard’s show is re-run quite a bit. I have never seen or heard of an individual who takes so much time off from “their job” I know, I know, all you Clark Howard lovers, please don’t tell me that “he doesn’t have to work at all, but he loves it”

I wish WSB would dump hannity completely. He, along with limbaugh, boortz, and all of the libs, are among the worst of all talk show hosts. The coward called hannity merely is a chickhawk, like limbaugh. Both should be in iraq, dying for Amurica. Sick of this type of crap on the radio. Radio is following TV.

I’ve been wanting to hear alternate opinions on Atlanta’s premier talk station for a long time. Savage, Boortz, Hannity, now Cain, the entire lineup besides Clark is based upon two words: “Bash Democrats.”
I’m a high-earning male in my mid-30s who breaks the “#1 among 25-50 men” mold. I can’t be the only one who is unimpressed with this pathetic right-wing flag-waving lineup.
Let’s get some fresh ideas in here!

I think it’s telling that the same station that’s owned by the same company that owns this newspaper is carrying the likes of Hannity, Boortz, Savage, etc, etc.
Heads need to roll, all over the place. This is a major failure.
In case nobody’s noticed lately, the entire banking system is teetering on the brink of collapse—thanks largely to the same ideology spouted by these clowns—and Hannity gets a huge contract. That’s about right, here in the good ol’ USA, 2008 version.
The Congress in now in the process of putting all of the US taxpayers on the hook for the real estate debacle now unfolding before your very eyes, and it will cripple your and your children’s financial outlook for decades to come. Why? We’ll have to pay for this, that’s why!! IT is outrageous that the perpetrators of this activity could lounge in luxury for this long, but when things went sour, they came to Uncle Sucker for a bailout.
This is because we have done what Hannity, Boortz and Co. have advocated for the past 15 years. No regulation, because that would be interference with the “free market”. No oversight, because the market was “self-correcting”. And when the wheel ran off, what did they do? They ran to the taxpayer to save them from themselves.
And now, the system finally broke, and now they come to the gum’mint to fix it.
For my part,NO!
To hell with the entire lineup at WSB-AM.

surely you are joking that some banks that are failing due to stupid loans given to dead-beats are to be blamed on WSB AM’s lineup? I’m going to assume that you are just trying to be funny and give you the benefit of the doubt. as for all you people who don’t like hannity, et al, why don’t you just turn off the radio and turn on network TV, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, or pick up the NY Times, or any news magazine and you can keep up with all the liberal topics of the day. Until then, try to relax. do a few conservative shows on the radio really make you that upset?
By JHogan
July 22, 2008 12:43 AM | Link to this
I did turn off the radio several years ago. I don’t listen to them anymore. (BTW, I used to listen to Hannity when he was on WGSO-AM in New Orleans, before his network days. So I think I have a very good idea of what all this crowd is all about. You might say that I was present at the birth of the “movement”.)
And if you think this is a joke, just pay close attention to the news in the next few days.
If you think that the TV networks, CNN, MSNBC CNBC or the NY TImes is liberal, then do yourself a very big favor and look up who owns them. Then ask yourself this simple question: Would I bite the hand that feeds me?

No, the democrat party in congress got us into this mess. They cried discrimination when banks would not make risky loans. So the banks, against their better judgement, were forced to loan money to people who were credit risks, and spent their money on rims and crack instead of paying their mortgage.
Now, thanks to the domocrats, they want the U.S. taxpayers to bail out the incompetent boobs who had no business buying a home in the first place.
Thanks a lot, democrats.

It doesn’t matter what we think. It matters what the RNC and the sheeples who listen to him think. The sheeples listen, so he will be paid. If Hannity says something is so, by golly it is. Satellite radio is the only way to avoid the mindless nonsense that we are served by the duopoly called terrestrial radio.

Hannity, like Limbaugh, is a buffoon and a liar. He twists events and quotes people out of context just to get in a cheap shot. He wraps himself in the flag and preaches his message of hate for Muslims. But, he’s here safe from the bullets and bombs; another member of Dick Cheney’s chicken army. Of course, the ignorant Rethuglicon bobble-heads that listen to him believe everything they are told. They don’t know no better. I fail to understand why they get so much airplay. I guess money overrides intelligence in these cases. Like P.T. Barnum said (but not really) ‘There’s a sucker born every minute.’ And the people that listen Hannity/Limbaugh/Savage/et al prove him right.
When you vote Rethuglicon, you vote against your own best interests. And Hannity being paid $100 million is living proof.

I’m a Republican, and I can NOT understand what people see in Sean Hannity. His nasal, whiny voice drives me crazy! He talks over any caller who makes a better, opposing point, THEN he cuts them off and goes on about how HE “told them!” He just isn’t very intelligent. Of course, he appeals to blue collar workers and middle-aged Long Island housewives. For intelligent, funny and outrageous radio, he can’t hold a candle to Neal Boortz.

I’m with you cpate. Hannity is funny to me because he will talk over a more intelligent caller in a minute. As long as he has control over the mute button, he can control the direction of the call and drown out opposing points of view. America has grown up. We are no longer sheep to Squealer’s message (Animal Farm reference).

cpate…couldn’t agree with you more. Hannity is smarmy and predictable and completely annoying. Hannity doesn’t have Rush’s talent for radio and Boortz actually thinks for himself instead of parroting GOP lines.

When Sean was in Atlanta he was fun and entertaining to listen to. He was respectful of others opinions and I even remember him re-thinking his position on a couple of occasions. He never hung up on a caller. Now I can’t listen to him for more than a couple of minutes,( or as soon as he mentions Rev. Wright, which is within the first 10 min.) he’s comes off as angry and un-compromising. If a caller disagrees with him he is often dismissed and ridiculed. I decided a while back I am not going to listen to anger on my way home after a hard days work. If you listen to his program pay close attention to the phrases like, can’t trust, scared of,untested, fearful and failed policies when talking about Obama. Also the answer to his question about Obama’s accomplishments , he has 12 right off the bat. And that is the 8 Republicans and 4 Dems he beat in the primaries. What are Seans accomplisments?

If that is what he getting paid, he is worth it. It’s just like pro athletes, actors, etc. I wouldn’t pay it, but someone is.
As far as the station that he is on. Since both are 50,000 during the day it probably wouldn’t matter until WGST has to drop their power in the late fall and winter months.
Also, WSB-AM seems to do a better job with news, sports, weather, traffic, etc. A fair amount of listeners are wanting that and just put up with whatever is on between the information that they want to hear.

Back a few posts..the banking system is experiencing some chaos primarily because many members of congress, mostly Democrats insisted that lenders provide loans to people who had been red lined…for good reason, they don’t repay their debts! Hannity, Rush, et.al. are on the radio because they sell advertisements, when they cease to do so they will be taken off the radio!

This is typical..you get on the air, you espouse hate and support failed principles and theories, yet you get large contracts??!!! It’s baffling to me. Hannity is a complete idiot. He will not speak to those who he hates on, fairly. He will get them on and then cut them off or edit their responses. Same thing for that fat jackass Limbaugh. Yet, these conglomerates continue to line their pockets. Sponsors flock to them. And poor misguided listeners, continue to listen to this crap. I’m not hating on their paychecks really, but at what amount of blood? Neither one of these “Patriots,” have fought in a war, led a political party, or represent any political body, yet they are swimming in cash for their “viewpoints.” Am I the only one who sees this as a little strange?

The market should mostly dictate salary, and if ABC Radio & Premiere want to fork over $100 mil…that’s their right/decision.
That being said, “Pawn Vanity”, “Hush Bimbo” and “Bull O’Liely” are all Neocon propaganda mouthpieces controlled by the same Globalist Elite who puppeteer the phoney “Left”. Like other controlled “mainstream” media, “Pawn Vanity” did his best to marginalize patriot Dr.Ron Paul’s bid for Presidency. Despite Vanity’s rhetoric, Dr.Paul still received massive grassroots support. Vanity, Bimbo & O’Liely all propagate the fallacious “Left vs. Right” paradigm meant to deceive the sheeple into thinking they actually have a “choice”. BTW, phoney Libertarian Neal Boortz isn’t much better. On the surface he makes some sense, but underneath the veil lies another Neocon who’s all for Globalist empire building, foreign entanglements and a police-state.
P.S. - If you good folks want to educate yourself as to the truth of who controls the politician traitors, the Corporate World, the “Sheepletainment” industry, etc. and their agenda & puppets..check out another patriot, Alex Jones!

To soright,
Are you a person who does some research before you make dumb comments or you just shoot from the hip?
If you actually believe one party is better then the other you are smoking to much weed!
You mention an energy policy that will not have any effect on rising oil prices except conservation and flex-fuel cars you are really out of your mind!
If you would do some research drilling takes at least 7 to 10 years for production. Exxon just found oil and gas from an off-shore drilling area and it took 9 years.
Regarding oils shalls been there tried that. You need massive power plants and water which is scarce in the WESTERN STATES. A no can do! No economically feasible.
Nuclear power plants can only be built in the midwest and east coast who do not have a water crisis like the south you need massive amounts of water to cool the NUCLEAR reactors.
It is amazing to read some of these dummiest comments known to mankind on these blogs!

Oh big bad Sean said something bad about Obama….boo hoo hoo. You all had your chance with Talk America, talk about a foul stench of a radio show. I still laugh when Sean plays the tape of Alex Baldwin at the helm on Talk America and in between cussing out his daughter on answering machines, Baldwin tried to be a political talk show host ‘cept he was never told how to operate the phones. Yep, in the hour he was on air all three callers were hung up on accidently by old puffy face, Baldwin. If all of you all hate Hannity so much, why do you listen to him? Why won’t Obama come on Hannity’s show? He is pure chickenpoop, that’s why. He knows he can’t have 200 plus people in the studio with him answering all his questions and making him appear half-way bright like he does on the liberal shows. Commonsense…35 years ago, during another energy crisis, Jimmy Carter said we had more natural resources than we could ever use in this country. He also said OPEC had a knife to our throats over oil….35 years later, they are still holding a knife to our throats…and what has Congress done to solve this problem? Nothing…and both parties are at fault….but, which party is standing in the way of progress now…Democrats….and why….because they are so wrapped up in global warming hysteria, drilling for more oil is out of the question….trying to force oil companies to spend their resources drilling in areas that may or may not have oil and not letting them drill where we know there is oil is not a solution commonsense…they have had 35 years to do something…billions of dollars are going out of this country for oil that could be used to enrich our own citizens…countries all over the world are drilling for oil and we cant drill…and like it or not…the Democrats in Congress are standing in the way. 35 years Commonsense….if not now…WHEN…. Democratic Senator Feinstein calls drilling a “distraction”…Obama calls it a “gimmick”. For years, they have tried to shove this global warming fraud down our throats warning us we have to sacrifice our lifestyles to save the world. What alternative fuel do we have right now that can get food from the fields to our cities, produce energy to keep us comfortable in our homes…winter and summer…allow us to drive our existing vehicles to and from work or anywhere we might need to go in hour daily lives. And don’t even mention corn-based ethanol…Im sure we have all read the horror stories on this disaster as an alternative fuel…Bottom line…if we believe the Democrats..in 10 or 15 years they will have a bounty of energy options. But, that won’t include oil shale, no clean coal, no nuclear power, and definitely…no more oil…in the meantime, countries all over the world will continue to drill oil and the citizens of this country will pay more taxes on every level and still be struggling to get by. More drilling may not be the answer, but it sure outweighs what the Democrats are offering as a solution to this crisis facing our nation.

TO so right,
Do you know that when the price per barrel is higher on the london index our national oil companies sell oil from Alaska to Asia?
Did you know that our MAJOR oil companies have use more money to buy back shares the invest in finding new oil resources?
Did you know a higher stock price is tied to all the executives pay?
Why do you think we need to give them more land to drill on? Plus no truly knows how much oil is anywhere is a truly a guess.
So right we have to get off of oil get it down to maybe 5 million barrell or less with wind, nuclear and solar and then we would not send the Saudi so much money.
Changing out cars to run on different types of ethanol ( Not corn ethanol) plus electric cars will greatly reduce our dependence on oil in the near future not 7 to 10 years down the road.
It’s not my political favoring of one part I just know our Corporations will not look out for AMERICA we have to look out for ourselves!

“Common Sense” @ 12:41 PM EDT - In theory, you’re correct regarding “socialist security”. However, due to the massive overspending of Uncle Scam (foreign handouts, A empire building “war”, pork barrel projects & other mass bureaucracy), I think SS is pretty much doomed. I would imagine it will be done-for within 10-15 years (max). I don’t plan on seeing 1 red cent of SS (irregardless of having paid-in my whole career).
It’s all part of the overall control mechanism rolled out via the sold-out pawns on “Crapitol sHill”. Whether it’s bogus carbon taxation or the gazillion other taxes (that were never intended by the founding fathers), Uncle Scam’s cut keeps growing & being squandered (by the billions).

Quick comment about oil and drilling…I’m all for drilling as well and developing new technology, i.e. wind, solar etc. The reason why there is some gridlock by congress on lifting the ban is that the democrats want the oil companies to drill FIRST on the land which is already LEASED to them before we go into protected areas; that’s the real issue, but of course the oil companies aren’t in a hurry to do this because they’re enjoying huge profits, less supply, more demand equals higher profits. The oil companies want to ban lifted so it would appear that they aren’t the bad guy, but by design the information which I just provided about land they already have in which they can drill TODAY on isn’t readily provided on network news.

Commensense…one last thing… The airline industry, the automobile industry, and the trucking industry are all suffering over the high oil prices and it is affecting the lives of most of our citizens. Common Sense(questionable at best) The problem we’re having with oil prices has NOTHING to do with a shortage of oil and EVERYTHING to do with the demand for it. Arrogance exists at all levels but OPEC is setting the price…and our oil companies are not nearly as greedy as some in other countries.
So far…the way I see it…the Democrats like it when people are poor and clambering for their help. The Republicans like it when the Fat Cats get fatter and start spreading the wealth down to us lowly peons. When I weigh one choice against the other…seems to me I’m better off with the latter one.

I hope Hannity’s show will be heard in every city and town in the country. If you ignorant libs would try listening to him for one week, you might learn the truth for a change. Thank God for Sean Hannity.

No GLOP…that is not what I said…Im talking about policies…what the parties stand for….the Republicans blew a great opportunity to lead our nation by acting like Democrats…they were thrown out because they were acting like Democrats and we got Democrats elected to replace them because they were acting like Republicans. And now Congress is headed up by an ULTRA LIBERAL Pelosi and Reid..these folks are so wrapped up in the global warming hysteria, they could care less about what your average citizen is going through…their solution to any problem is to raise our taxes and if you are out there working for a living, trying to get by on 4.00 a gal for gas, voting for Democrats this fall is crazy.

I had to stop reading the blogs about 1/4 of the way through. I have never seen so many Boortz, Cain, Savage, Limbaugh critics in my life ! It is sickening that you people (for lack of a better term) can’t accept facts. Your idols, the democrats, have tried radio talk shows but no one tuned in and the sponsors backed out. XM radio is a good example, very few fans, mant sponsors pulled their money and it is now being paid for by private funds - DUH ! Who wants to listen to that crap. Can’t you have an open mind, listen to both sides and form your own opinions ? You are nothing but democratic sheep. I feel for you.
