6/2: WCLK-FM debuts new national morning show

Jazz station WCLK-FM has picked up an alternative to NPR’s “Morning Edition.” It’s dubbed “The Takeaway with John Hockenberry and Adaora Udoji” and will skew younger than “Morning Edition.” It will feature more interactive features with the audience.

The show, which recently launched in New York, Boston and Baltimore, starts in Atlanta this morning from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.

The producer Maxie Johnson is a Morehouse grad.

“The Takeaway” is a co-production of WNYC Radio and Public Radio International, in editorial collaboration with the BBC World Service, The New York Times, and WGBH Radio Boston

In a press release:

“Research shows that public radio listeners are tuning in more and more to news and talk magazine programming than ever before, and there’s unprecedented interest in this year’s presidential campaign,” says Wendy Williams, General Manager, WCLK. “The Takeaway will compete with the popular, news program, Morning Edition; so, our positioning is strategic as well. WCLK strives to be a radio destination for hard hitting news and stories that impact the world from a local, national and global perspective… We want to gain new listeners while keeping Jazz lovers.”
