5/29: Atlanta’s T.I.’s community service becomes MTV series
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
BET a couple of years ago filmed a popular series focused on rapper Lil Kim before she went to prison for perjury and conspiracy with the classy title “Countdown to Lockdown.”
Now MTV is doing a similar “Countdown to Lockdown” with Atlanta’s T.I., according to Variety magazine. Currently, the rap star is doing 1,000 hours of community service before he enters prison next year for possessing firearms as a convicted felon and possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers.
MTV, which has already gotten footage of T.I. leaving house arrest earlier this year, plans to film some of his community service this summer and the release of his next album this fall. The network expects to air the show next year.
“Hopefully the mistakes I’ve made will be a lesson to today’s youth and they won’t go down that same path,” T.I. told Variety.

kemmet This looks like another topic that’s right up your alley. Don’t forget to mention your BMW, your rims, and how you leeched off your parents for 7 years while in college. (then hit the Post button 20 times)
BTW, most of my white friends (myself included) all paid their own way through college. But then we don’t have the sense of entitlement that you do.

Let’s just hope MTV takes the ad revenue generated from this show and donates it to a decent cause…say the Boys and Girls Club or any number of other organizations dedicated to keeping kids off the streets and out of jail.

WELFARE QUEEN I’d be happy to read a book about redneck history if you’ll give me the title. Now get off the free library computer and give somebody else a chance.

The previous blog entry was about an all black news channel, and people complained that blacks were portrayed as criminals…so what’s next?
A black guy getting his own show about doing community service!?!
I wonder why people portray blacks as criminals?? maybe because it is celebrated instead of looked down upon???

“I wonder why people portray blacks as criminals?? maybe because it is celebrated instead of looked down upon???”
Exactly. The thugs and criminals are celebrated; behaving yourself and staying in school is perceived as “white.”
And the whole TI case is a joke. Any white guy caught trying to buy machine guns would be locked up for twenty years. But because TI is “famous” and this is Atlanta, he gets next to nothing. Pathetic.

I must applaud the bravery of Kimmet and Mr. Torn and others of their ilk who send with some reckless abandon very blatant racial comments, while hiding behind a keyboard, knowing full well they would never utter those same comments in the face of those to whom they wish to insult and slander….

Should people even be allowed to use their community service as a publicity stunt? There should be a law about that.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! It hurts to see that only in America can people HATE and HATE and HATE some more without consequences!!!!!!!!! This is why I do not believe in the pledge;it is a LIE. I do not agree with the actions of TI,but to belittle someone just like what happened in the Mike Vic case puts those who chose to demean in the same category. Let’s try to HELP someone or maybe even PRAY for that person instead of tearing them down.

White people don’t say how they feel to the faces of thugs because we know how they would react. They would not be able to have a normal arguement. They would pull out their guns and start shooting. When you thugs are not in school, are you at the shooting range instead? I am sure its either that or selling drugs right?

I don’t agree with the junk people are posting, but TI shouldn’t be allowed to promote his crimes on mtv.
Yet your bad comments cannot compare to reality… Two of his kids are named Messiah Ya’Majesty and King C’Andre, or something close. Honestly, someone should add a couple of years onto his prison sentence. That’s child cruelty.

WOW!! I’m from Boston and have been living here for a year and it still amazes me how openly racist people are down here. I would have expected people in the 21st century to at least keep it behind closed doors. Boston had it’s racist days, but things changed with the times and people became more accepting of each other. What a sorry state of affairs we are in down here. Ohh and TI should’ve been given a hell of alot more time!

TIP probably means that he keeps his hats tipped, I’m just kidding, this is a guy who made alot of mistakes in his life and hopefully he’s learned his lesson as he is a role model for all the kids he has alone. I look forward to seeing all the rappers kids when their older, what will they be doing?

I don’t condone TI’s behavior or anyone else thug like behavior no matter what race you are… Not only black people are considered thugs. However instead of you pointing the fingers at blacks, take a look at your own race. We all have our faults. The govenment it predimontly white….we’re all being pimped by the governemnt. Especially when we go to the gas tank. What do you have to say about that.

Ya’ll crack me up. Ya’ll act like the playfield here is level. The truth is things got screwed up from day one. Think about American history. Look at the big picture & give black folks a break, they got a RAW deal from the get go & are trying to get back on track. In the mean time TT will be on TV cause he’s a star. It doesn’t matter if TI was white, he’s just talented & loved by many….GET OVER IT!

Incredible!
When I’d seen what this bird had been caught trying to buy, I wasn’t really surprised. Hip-Hop culture is rotten to the core. Full of racism, misogyny and predatory behaviors, it’s no wonder he’d need an a** of automatic weapons to do whatever it is that he does. Then I read the judges decision, and was completely disgusted. Now my opinion has changed, let him run amok, and create havoc, put the judge in jail for a year. Let him reflect on his actions, and the message he’s sending to the admirers of this culture. These guys know the system is broken, is weak and ineffectual, and they capitalize on it every chance they get. Until legislators and offcials are ready to take off the blinders, and begin calling it what it is, the families, the communities and the population at large will continue to be victimized and dumped on by this nasty, anti-social lifestyle.

I’ve ridden Marta and seen a lot of scary white folks. How can you generalize all black people by the few you saw on Marta? Can we open our MINDS please??? And have you ever ridden through a redneck town? My God, what might you see THERE?
