Why do we need a news channel that “targets us”? What’s going to be shown?

So of course you naturally thought you could appeal to every single one of them with one channel.

Also, this guy works for CNN. Did he never hear of Black In America? I think CNN does a pretty good job of keeping black issues in focus.

Unfortunately they don’t do the same for the Hispanic community, and having Lou Dobbs aboard negates any good will they would have anyway.

This is a good idea. It will expose to America many faces of Black America. The news is biased and does not show the crime in majority white areas unless it is so severe there is no choice but to report. If the news reported the DUI’s in Gwinnett alone it would fill the first 10 min of a telecast.

The only BAD idea is this blog. “All black” and having African-Americans as part of a target audience are two different things altogether. I’m sure Rodney knew this when he whipped up this “article.”

There are networks that “target” Hispanics (Telemundo), women (We, Lifetime), white men (SpikeTV was known for being a “male” channel, but ask their executives how diverse that population was), those with a same-sex preference (Logo), and so on.

In radio, which is still broadcast media, it’s even more targeted/obvious.

This SHOULD be considered no different, but we know it will be. Such is life.

Why is it OK to have a Black News Channel, a Black Miss America, a Black scholorship fund, a black this and a black that but if we were to say, Let us have a White something, it would be racist? It probably would be against some law somewhere. Black is not a nationality. Irish is a Nationality. White is not a nationality. African is a continent not a country. All this “Black/African Stuff” or “Brown/Hispanic Stuff” does is polarize people. When the USA stops being a melting pot and becomes individual fighting pots we will destroy ourselves. I wonder why the minority allows it and the majority ignors it. Funny Folk.

High crime in the White neighborhoods-where? The first 10-15 minutes is about black people-protesting about a black person getting arrested for murder-protesting about not being free-free to do what-murder? Do drugs? Sell Drugs? pimp? what ever happened to majority rules? Since when did the minority have an over ruled say? do the Republicans have that right in the senate and house? blacks talk about racism-THEY are promoting the racism with separate black programs, contests and associations. If they would learn to integrate and be part of a behaved society instead of like the Mugabe society in Africa, they would call themselves Americans and not Africans. they need to get the chips off thier shoulders, especially the women, and take responsibility for themselves.

Who really cares? I will simply block it off my television like I do shopping channels, the rip off religious channles and BET and the MTV channels. It’ll save me time when channel surfing. This is more pandering to one race, to try to make them feel better about themselves when that’s their own responsibilty. Quota’s, affrimative action based on race and race alone is not enough? This is garbage but being middle age I should be use to the special treatment ‘they’ get by now but it still rubs me raw that poor a white kid can’t get the special affirmative action treatment a black kid gets but that’s the way we run this country. I suppose this is the law making up for nature; this is saying to the black kids you need all the extra help you can possible get to make up for your genetic shortcomings. What else could it mean if the two kids, the black and the white, were always affored the same chances from the get go. It has to be to make up for genetic differences, right? Surely we don’t cater to one race in such an obvious way….right? lol

Such a news channel has the potential to be awesomely productive.

If “others” wish to see nothing but shootings, robberies, rump-shaking, and all other manner of Black stereotypes, then they’ll be free to continue watching the current channels offered.

The rest of us might finally have an opportunity to receive news and information without being depicted and portrayed in the worst light possible. Imagine a channel where ratings are high if there’s no thuggery, criminality or illiteracy. Imagine a news outlet where corporate sponsors (of color) want to advertise where ratings are based on positive news.

Positive news and programming? People seeing positive and quality images of themselves? A Black news manager or two actually saying NO to racialized entertainment?

I can see why some “others” might not be too happy about the idea.

Were not the first 300+ years of the United States’ beginning dominated by everything that was white, and people of any other color were figuratively and literally relegated to the back of the bus? And “Ed” and “Buzz” or any other folks that refuse to believe that blacks or any race that is not white are all criminals, uneducated or lazy welfare abusers, I will continue to pray for you. But then again, maybe you know this already, but you just cannot understand or comprehend how some blacks speak using proper grammar, are highly educated, or want to achieve the same things out of life that you do for themselves and their families.

Is an all black news show necessary? My first response would be no. However, reading the commentary my mind has changed. Would the show be about nothing but crime? Lets find out. I have yet to see the portrayal of little Sally holding Mama’s cigerette while she brushes the childs hair. Nor Mr. highly educated white buisness man taking the time out on his lunch break to play the spoons with his shoeless cousins at the Walmart. Then agian it is still early. Thanks for playing.

Why not take the money which would be used to launch this ridiculous channel and pour it into programs which would get children to think about themselves as anything other than thugs. Hip-hop has destroyed at least two generations of people. Listen to Bill Cosby! Take responsibility for yourselves and then maybe you wouldn’t be portrayed in “a negative way” on the news. Take a stand! Let it be known in your community that you will not stand for this any more! Run out the drug dealers, pimps, hos and thugs. If Hera truly believes what was stated, the he/she needs to get real about this country. This is a great country but racism, sexism, homophobia and other things are alive and well. Why don’t people like you ever address White racism? Why is it when minorities attempt to compensate for the majority’s teatment of minorities that racism becomes an issue? Oh excuse me. Everyone has the right to do this and that but it’s only on paper. How many unarmed White people are killed by the police? Name one! And you CNN lovers out there. Name one missing Black woman or man who received as much coverage as Lacy Peterson or Nicole Simpson on that or any other network. How many minorities have their own shows? One? Two? Zero? Just because the networks may lean to the left doesn’t mean that they are going to foresake their audience to support Black America. How can White stations truly address the issues confronting the Black, Latins, Arabic, or LGBT communities. They can’t and won’t because they don’t sell. Period! Let’s talk about Reverend Wright for an example. How many of the White networks ran his speeches in their totality? How many addressed the fact that what he said is no different from the views expressed in many Black churches in this country? How many addressed the fact that many Black people are angry about what has gone on? How many addressed the fact that Wright lived in an era when segragation was alive and well in this country that may have colored (no pun intended) his world view? How many addressed the distinction between a man’s ability to preach the Word of God and his political views? They don’t report it because they report rather than educate.We need to stop putting our faith in the mainstream media because their interests are based on pleasing their sponsors and making money. How many Black sponsors have you seen on CNN or any other news outlet? That’s what I thought.
Do we need an African American news channel? Hell yes. That way Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh can tune in and learn something whether they want to report it or not.

The story is about a NEWS channel that is targeted towards African-Americans. Again this would be a first and I think a really good idea.

JC Watts is ultra-conservative which makes this endeavor intriguing from the beginning - blacks have always been poorly portrayed in the mass media so I see this as an opportunity to shed the yoke of victimhood and move the race up the socio-economic totem pole - JC’s network will focus on how blacks can overcome the things that plague our community most - I applaud his efforts but I will reserve further judgement until I see what they roll out

There are 13 million Black people in this country and 28 million new welfare cases per year. Do your research. The news would be biased in it’s reporting. They’d be looking under rocks for positive stories with a black only angle. Face the facts, when you see a story on the blue jean bandits, home invasions, car jackings….which race do you automatically associate these types of crimes with? And to the poster who made the comment about shoeless white people in Wal Mart, which Wal Mart do you go to? As a white male when I go to Wal Mart all I see are blacks and Hispanics and very, very few whites there. The little girl holding her moms cigerette while she is brushing her hair? No different than holding moms crack pipe while getting cornrows, is there? You have your sterotypes already made up, so do we. What’s rubbing blacks raw here is that whites are tired of being the cause of all your ills and spoils and all you can do is call us racist if we have an opinion. Have your news stations, who the hell cares. I will watch it about as often as I go to the MLK Center or watch BET or anything geared towards anyone but whites. I can be as white and proud as you can be as black and proud. Enough is enough and I have had enough. Twice recently I have had a black person yell “racist” at me because I have a McCain sticker on my vehicle. That’s really fair and balanced. Shove your double standards, shove them waaaay up there.

Yeesh, this is depressing. As an black hispanic woman I don’t really see myself represented in any channel. The Latino stations only use black hispanics as maids and gardeners. The black channels focus on videos that denigrate black women, sitcoms with a whole lot of shuckin’, jivin’ and ‘coonin, and the white stations feature shows that pretend brown people don’t exist (ie, Friends). Do I really want to see an all black news channel? no, not really. But i can definitely see why Mr. Watts and others see a need for one.

How about an African-American channel that actually HELPS black people with instructional programming? I want to see TV programs that help black people LEARN instead of just reporting bad things. * How to open a checking account

• How to use a turn signal so cops won’t have an excuse to pull you over

• How to put your chicken wing bones in the trash can instead of throwing them in the parking lot

• How to properly park a car instead of backing it up (poorly) and taking up 3 parking spaces

• How to be quiet in a movie theater during the movie

• How to tip a server in a restaurant

There is already an ATL TV station that does this early in the mornings…FOX 5….while not all the show personalities may be black, the guests are (from food to music to books to doctors) and it has a total hip-hop, black community feel. That is enough! We’ve switched early AM news channels to CBS.

The problem with mainstream TV is that it shows blacks in a very one-dimensional fashion. Matter of fact, it shows all Americans in a one-dimensional manner. But it’s dangerous for a minority. This is clearly reflected in comments on this blog…we don’t all eat fried chicken and watermelon, rob stores or shoot each other. I, and many like me, are college educated, own homes and supervise some of your country, redneck, functional-illiterate axxes. Now I don’t believe all of you are illiterate and redneck, or that all of you are wealthy and live in fancy co-ops. But then I don’t allow TV to determine my view of whites. My best friend is white, I love her to death and I would do anything in the world for her. I wish mainstream news showed more of mainstream black America, those of us who are a lot like you: we work hard everyday, worry about our kids’ education and wonder if this country will survive the Bush presidency.

JC Watts is extremely dim and stupid. As a commentator he barely manages to state the bleeding obvious in pretty plebian smug tones. I always found his GOP allegiance to be pretty embarassing. Most of the black congressional causcus - now there is an overtly racist/bigoted obtuse group - is as dim as he is, especially Conyers and Waters.

This is just an attempt by Watts to get his snout deep in the trough. Assuming its black news about predominantly black areas the unremitting violent crime and corruption and whining and bleating about whitey will dominate, along with racist/sexist filth in the form of hippety hop videos and vacuous black yoof kulture which undeniably is even more moronic than the mindless white teen kulture.

Hopefully the black news channel will cover the open race war and endless gangbanging killings between blacks and mexican types in greater LA and elsewhere in “urban” hellholes across the fruited plain. Nor forgetting racist black thuggery against (orthodox) jews in NYC and simmering black bigotry against “Koreans” who snuck in amongst us and opened shops and businesses.

This channel should be hugely entertaining for the rest of us. So long as sullen black so called comedians don’t slither over from the worthless bet with their “white people do this” racist routines.

Lets hope that the usual ebonics of todays black yoof is kept off screen, except in the commercials for fast food, bailbondsmen and custom wheels etc.

The fact that Watts is NOT one of the vile black snouts in the gimme gimme racial spoils trough will doubtless ensure loads of black racist “Uncle Tom” sneers at a black commentator who unusually thinks for himself.

Now if Larry Elder, Thomas Sowell, C.O.R.E., Project 21, Walter Williams, Rev. Jesse Peterson, Ward Connerly and other such free thinking visionary black intellectuals and commentators were to run such a channel America would actually be the beneficiary. But just watch the black race pimps and micky mouse so called reverends try and muscle in and keep the race hate blame whitey bile going.

Who cares? Bottom line is that unless and until the black community quits laping up the “victim” complex things aren’t going to change. Maybe this channel can help. I hope Bill Cosby is a regular. Maybe they can do a series on how Willie Randolph is the victim of racism. I mean, sure, he has the second highest payroll and his team sucks, but any criticism must racist. I knew as soon as I noticed all of the comments associated with this article that there would be somebody, namely a white person, complaining about why there is black this and black that….are you serious! WE LIVE IN A WHITE COUNTRY!! Nypeach had me believing right up until she brought the Presidency into it. You would have been well enough alone to leave it out. Like 98% of all of us, we believe in the same things. Wow…people are actually on their high horses wailing about why they don’t have a “white” news channel. Although news is supposedly “fair and balanced” amongst other monikers, how can some people honestly not see the news is slanted and sensationalized in a white direction? What is the issue of an African American news station that will have hosts who can freely speak their minds such as Hannity, Dobbs, O Reilly, etc. Why the outrage? Do you honestly think the aforementioned hosts give a hoot about the African American community? Yes, you have your stereotypes. They are more than likely shaped from the “mainstream” news networks. As one poster stated, you have Lifetime, Telemundo, etc. Now that African Americans will have a positive outlet outside of the mostly garbage on BET, and there is outrage from some people? Pathetic.

First of all, whites stripped Africans of their heritage and culture during slavery and the majority of Blacks in the US only know what continent they came from. Regardless of what you think the legacy of slavery will haunt this country for centuries as this country would not have succeeded if it was not for the institutte of slavery. Read your history book, even Thomas Jefferson wrote papers on slavery, they are published on website and in books.

Second because of legal segregation of the past and discrimination of the present you have seperate Black institutions even the church. Even in the church people are discriminated on race. Ask a Southern Baptist. In my home town a black person did not receive one vote to be admitted into the church and the pastor resigned because he did not know how bigoted his congregation was. There are still white male institutions, country clubs( not many but they still exist). Everytime there is something positive that helps blacks some white person thinks its anti-American or reverse discrimination. Never do whites complain about woman’s groups, ethnic groups such as Jewish groups, or Latino target audiences, just blame blacks.

The Klan still exists, go to south ga or north ga, rednecks are everywhere in the south, and lynching do occur. This is reality and you can really tell the mentality of white people by the comments about fried chicken and malt liquor. If you want to see how white people really act go to Dublin ga at the redneck olympics, they are proud to be white………..

Why is there always a negative assumption made by blacks toward other blacks who happen to be conservative and republican? Why all the ‘hating’ from blacks towards blacks that happen not to fall into the democratic agenda? What ever happened to being able to think outside the box? Granted, blacks who are republican are in the minority but if you looked closer at their family structure, I am sure you’d find that the children of conservative blacks are far more likely to have finished college and well into productive careers than you might find on the other side of the fence. Of course those like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton teach non-conservative blacks that to be black and conservative is a sell out to the white man but the truth is Al and Jesse can’t exploit a black conservative and make a living off their ignornace like they do in high fashion with the black democrats that are easily led through life by those that only see them as a cause to make money off of.

Wow, I thought Atlanta was the city to busy to hate, well at least thats what the slogan says. Apparently most of you all didn’t get that memo. I just moved here from Philly and to be quite honest I feel that alot of whites here in Georgia are jealous because yes Atlanta does have alot of crime ridden and poor black areas, but it also has alot of black people that make just as much if not more money than most whites here in the Metro. I just bought a condo in the gentrfying NW Atlanta area called Bolton- Riverside and Im right across the river from South Cobb. It never ceases to amaze me how many poor rednecks live on the side streets adjacent to my condo. I went to the local convience store and ran into one of the slack jawed yockels that lives around the corner from me, and overheard this hick say to his fat whale of a wife that I must be a drug dealer because thats the only way I could afford a BMW bieng so young. I turned and stated to him that I busted my rear for 7 years getting my undergrad and then in grad school, and not every black male he sees drive an expensive car here in Atlanta is a drug dealer. In fact most are not, this city is filled to the brim with young blacks who quite frankly strive to nothing short of rich before they turn 45. Whats funny about the whole situation is that the same yockel who made that comment to his wife about me has two grown children- one a young man who looks and tries to be ghetto, even more so than the young black males I see on the other side of Bolton Rd which is a mostly black lower income area. And his daughter who shall I say is nothing short of a w** for all the local kids and men white, hispanic, black in the neighborhood. This same young lady had the gall to try and flirt with me one day at the same store that me and her father had an exchange in, I just turned to her and laughed, and said “Im sorry sweetheart I dont do flat a** having Beluga whales”

You would think that todays leaders would be working towards what Dr. King preached and believed (“a color blind America”). However todays leaders, including many of those who were at King’s side in the 60’s, continue to accept as OK and quietly allow promotion of a “segregationist” course in media. Americans that are not black simply ignore this divisive racial biases ie, BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION,WHO’S WHO IN BALCK ATLANTA, BLACK ENTERTAINER AWARDS… etc…and now the BLACK POLITICAL NETWORK,and some how justify their silence as not PC because they are not black. Black Judges are even dismissing non-blacks from courtrooms for no other reason than the color of their skin.

Enough!! This is not OK!! It’s time to call this what it is, Racial Bigotry, and all Americans should challenge and hold our leaders accountable to Dr. King’s beliefs to stand up and lead as he preached ie,WALK THE TALK!!!

I read the article and found it somewhat interesting considering JC Watts, a man I respect, is one of the driving forces behind this network. Then, against my better judgement, I started reading the comments. As always, some made me mad, some made me laugh, and most just made me sad. I didn’t care to comment until I read the blog by a self described “black intellectual” named Chess. You start off with a good point about Ted Turner, but then you show what an amazing intellectual you are by name calling. That is the problem with any kind of racial, social or political discourse in this country. No one wants to talk, to share ideas, to learn from one another….we all just want to name call and see who can shout the loudest. The only thing in this city that is truly color blind is ignorance. That, unfortunately, goes for all of us.

You start off with a good point about Ted Turner, but then you show what an amazing intellectual you are by name calling. That is the problem with any kind of racial, social or political discourse in this country. No one wants to talk, to share ideas, to learn from one another….we all just want to name call and see who can shout the loudest. The only thing in this city that is truly color blind is ignorance. I will be interested to see a conservative point of view, something different than what’s currently offered by Jesse Jackson, Rev. Sharpton, etc. I agree with you, I Have a Dream, Mr. Watts will have to fight off the purveyors of victimhood to make available a different message many middle-class blacks believe in. It is about time. All of the major networks, basically have one view outside of the Keith Olberman show on MSNBC. but he on at 8pm and 10pm. If your in different area in this country the Spanish community has several TV outlets. The African American community is 20 years behind. BET was great in the begining, but it became a JOKE to the African American community. BOB JOHNSON, sold out to the powers that be. By just thinking that our community is only about RAP music video, and we are not making news every day. So I hope it is going to be worldly news every day. I look forward to supporting this network. I’m not sure where I fall on the concept of an All-black news channel, but just reading these comments makes me sad. I don’t know if people write this stuff because you actually believe what your saying or because the anonymity of writing online has emboldened you to say practically anything that comes to mind, but clearly some of you need to get well from the sickness of your ignorance and hate.

Just as RCH posted, whether this idea succeeds or not is purely a matter for the market to decide. Regardless of Congressman Watts’ intentions - if the viewers come, so will the advertisers and their dollars. That isn’t racism, it’s economics. It’s no different than businesses, like Whole Foods, that target store locations based on income and market potential - Black, White, Asian, Hispanic - if you can neither afford their product and are not likely to shop at their store ANYWAY why would they make an investment in your neighborhood? And, if the demand for their services increases and they still won’t build, then I’m sure someone else will rush in to take advantage of that opportunity. That’s business.

Discrimination is alive and well folks - you’ve all proved that here. But please stop using your own hatefulness and ugliness to explain otherwise rational behavior.

Euro-Americans: There are alot of african americans that are doing just like you. Trying to provide for their families, fund their pensions, and deal with job layoffs and business closings just like you. They can relate to the news stories about as well as you relate to a trailer park. Still everytime there’s a blog people come on here with tired sterotypes supported by the media.

If the headline story this evening was “African American Family accumulates 1 million in their retirement fund” nobody would watch that. People want to hear about the murders, rapes, robberies and other crimes so the media obliges. Still you don’t have to believe that mess.

Just like all euro-americans aren’t klansman all african americans aren’t thugs. Just the carefully chosen ones you see on the news. They’re just giving us what we want.

People from any/every race and socio-economic background commit crimes. I don’t think anyone denies that. The issue for me, as an African-American, is that our crimes seem to be focused on and scrutinized more. Also, I’ve read more than one ignorant posting where people stereotype the entire African- American race based on the actions of some. That is the problem. These sterotypes carry over into corporate america and other environments EVERYDAY. It can really wear you down. I really don’t care that the majority is tired of us complaining and “playing the race card”. Until you experience this treatment (blatant or subtle) you won’t get it. It doesn’t matter what degrees I have, how nice the neighborhood I live in, what a good job I have and how well behaved my kids are. SOME people will always apply those stereotypes from the moment we walk in the door. But alas, It makes the strong even stronger and that makes you fear us even more. The bottom line is fear and ignorance.

Saying that all of Senator Obama’s Black supporters are only there because of his ethnicity is insulting. First, not all Black people support Obama. Second, not all of his supporters are Black. Third, your explanation of what America will look like under an Obama administration is your opinion, not fact. I’m pretty sure a lot of folks who supported Bush didn’t expect to be going through not one, but two recessions, rampant unemployment, and a surge in the cost of both gas and groceries, not to mention a prolonged war that is sending billions of dollars (OUR MONEY) overseas and too many of our countrymen home in body bags or disabled. And yet, folks still support and defend the Bush administration…is it because he’s White? Maybe, but it’s more likely because someone out there is making money from his decisions.

The American people want change, pure and simple. Who you think is capable of providing that change will determine your vote - racist and/or sexist attitudes and platitudes shouldn’t, but it’s clear from this lot, that won’t be the case.

Wow, the comments on this blog are amazing. One thing that whites, I don’t think, will EVER realize…is that America IS white privilege….YOU will NEVER be judged by the majority on a sole basis, “the color of your skin”. Plain and simple. Blacks everyday have to wonder if the service, the grade, the job, the acceptance, etc. was due to the color of their skin…god or bad(which translates to stereotypes).

I think many of us are missing the picture, the black news show is “targeting” blacks, it doesn’t exclude whites. Whites should watch. For some of you, you can learn more about tolerance and the variety of our race. We watch your white shows like “Friends”, “Sex in the City”, etc. sitcoms, where hardly, maybe 1 black is featured…

It is so sad that we are categorized and judged based on one segment of our race. Please understand that we blacks are more than just hip hop, etc. Some whites just don’t want to accept that, no matter how far we have come… from our many years of “being behind” and trying to “catch up” that we are just as smart, talented and beautiful.

Whites wake up and pay attention, you have always “had yours”….schools, communities, country clubs…It is sad that this day in time, my son will be only 1 of 2 black kids, along with a Hispanic girl, (minorities) accepted to and starting kindergarten at a top ranked private school. Whites….you definitely have “yours” , so be so kind to let us have “ours”….but you are not excluded from ours, just don’t judge!

I have this neat little device called a remote control that enables me to choose to watch or not watch something. If I choose not to watch Mr. Watts news channel it is not based on race, it could very well be based on content. I don’t watch all shows on television and race has nothing to do with it. Being a middle age guy I am not the target audience for shows such as Hanna Montana, but race has nothing to do with it. As a white male I do watch shows that are primarily black, esp. the old comedies I grew up with. I am also Republican and I have a deep admiration for Mr. Watts. I think he has good intentions.

@ White Privilege: “America IS white privilege” is so untrue on so many levels. I have been judged by the color of my skin - and turned down for jobs because I didn’t “fit in” with the coworkers. I AM WHITE AND THEY WERE BLACK. I was told “I didn’t fit in” or “my soul didn’t show enough”.. so DON’T YOU DARE TELL WHITE FOLKS WE AREN’T JUDGE BY THE COLOR OF OUR SKIN.

How many people in the US even had ancestors involved in slavery these days? Most white Americans had nothing to do with it, so stop blaming us for all of your problems. My family didn’t even make it over here until after WWII.

I don’t think it’s racism if at the end of the day I enjoy going home to my family that looks like I do and have neighbors that share my same values. Common sense dictates that I am safer in my majority white neighbrohood. My kids benefited from a good education at a majority white school. Most of my friends are white, all my good friends are. This probably makes me a racist but if I were black saying these things I would be embracing my culture.

I think what we need more is a 24-hour channel that would be devoted to local news. Nashville has had one for quite some time. But to respond to the specific question, just once, I’d like to see some objective and engaging feedback, but as long as this society remains incapable of having an open and frank discussion about race, some of the above postings, which defy all reasonable logic, will no doubt continue.

Here is the one agreeable comment I’ve read so far: “Self imposed segregation”. If we are wise at all, we should take every effort to remove or seperate ourselves from a people who are being judged by God. It is obvious from some of the comments above how some of you view Black people. We would be foolish to think that integration has served us but it rather has removed from us the very idea of independence and true freedom (any body remember “Black Wall St” in Tulsa, Oklahoma? How ‘bout a story on that, Rodney.) I could site many more examples how we were better off before we were fooled into integration. God had to force Pharoh’s hand to free the people during Moses’ time. The same is occuring today. “He who hath ears, let him hear…” Or in this case, read (smile).

After living in Atlanta because of my job and dealing with all the mess I ahve had to deal with at work and in my neighborhood I hope to retire to a place where I never have to see anyone but people who look like me. I was not like this until I moved to Atlanta. Ten years later I am ready to move to a 100% white area. Am I proud of this? No. Sadly, it’s reality.

America should not vote for a “black man”. It should not vote for a “woman”. It should not vote for a “Christian” or a “Jew” or an “Irishman” or an “Italian”.

Americans should vote for the best candidate whose proposed policies that best match their political beliefs. The shallow, immaterial surface characteristics, such as skin color, ethnicity, sex, ancestry, etc are not important.

Why should America vote for a black man as president?

Its all about white guilt, and about feeling better and obsolving slavery. I think having a black as prez may actually divide us politically more.

I think Obama is all about race and if he is elected he will run his presidency the same way as use the race card every time. I will never vote for him, not because he is racist but because he uses his race to win the election.

Yes, obviously there are aspects that degrade our race, but what race doesn’t have that. Other races should understand that blacks are ONLY 13% of the American population… How in the hell are we supposed to get fully recognized for our great accolades with such a lopsided percentage on the major media outlets. I see if there were a 50/50 share of the percentage, but how perfect would that be… WAIT, IT WOULD NEVER BE PERFECT.. There will always be a majority, where the minority need there just due as well, because we are all worth something. I believe the object/goal of this channel is to show what good really goes on in the black community. HELL- Our kids need to see more of it.. .and not just 13% of the time. DAMN give minorities a break and stop focusing on the negative of everything. Thats just how simple minded you bold and ignorant bloggers are. Expand your horizons. The only segregation that is going on, is by those not allowing a particular race/culture to display their GREAT qualities. Get a grip and share what is rightfully all of ours… That is recognition.. After reading these blog posts, I certainly understand why so many kids failed the CRCT.

The retarded apple certainly doesn’t fall far from the ignorant tree.

Now that I’ve gotten in my backhanded shot, a few points:

1. Shut the F* up about Bill Cosby. Just because you dangle a black person in front of the black community with this “Cosby advocates it, why don’t you guys just listen” attitude doesn’t mean that he’s right. He believes something different than a large portion of the African-American community, and he is CERTAINLY not the designated spokesperson for black people. He’s entitled to his beliefs, and we’re entitled to our disagreement.

2. If I hear one more person say fair and balanced…

Honestly, does anyone really think that ANY part of the news is fair or balanced in any way? Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc. these are all PRODUCTS. They don’t really even WANT to be fair or balanced, they want to make money. You can’t fault them for it either, news media is in fact a BUSNIESS. Let’s not pretend that just because a news outlet claims to be “fair and balanced” that they are actually that. They go with what sells, end of story.

1. Don’t worry, we’ll let you keep Fox News.

If you don’t want to watch an all-black news network then DON’T WATCH! Nobody’s advocating replacing any channel with this network. There’s nothing wrong with further segmenting the media, that way a particular group of people or people interested in a particular group can learn more about a specific set of current events. A story about Black America that may get cut from CNN’s lineup because of a more pressing story may make it to a broadcast on this network. Is that really a problem?

1. Things aren’t equal in America. Period. There are still people alive today who remember that simply existing as a black man in the wrong part of town(ESPECIALLY in GA) was grounds for a gruesome murder. Now, can you logically tell me that a person should just put all that in the past and say “Man, I’m sure glad that’s over. All the racism is gone and I’m safe now!” Please.

And it is for this reason that us as African Americans live by a different set of rules in this country. A set that includes a need for a black news channel or historically black colleges & universities (that certainly do not EXCLUDE white students by any stretch). Because frankly, we just don’t completely trust a system that has severely failed us yet.

And given the several HUNDRED years of mistreatment by the aforementioned system, I think that lack of trust is pretty understandable.

And about my area, Riverside/ Bolton is right on the beltline and the prices of houses are rapidly going up in this area. Were 5 minutes from Downtown, Buckhead, and Vinings. Don’t look now but the whole Howell Mill area ( of which Bolton is apart of) is turning into the westside’s trendy section, Bolton/ Riverside is an upcoming community. Let’s see whose parcel of real estate is worth more in 10 years shall we??? I did my research before I purchased over there believe me, I wanted to get the most bang for my buck and trust in this area I will see a return on my investment much faster than you idiots who live OTP. About my college I have incurred ZERO debt from student loans because my parents were successful in their endeavors and footed the bill. They were not rich by any stretch of the imagination but they could afford to put my sister and I thru school. I’m your worst nightmare Publicenemy# 1, I’m young, black, and successful (might I add I’m Muslim as well)

Also my BMW came from the factory with rims; something you would know if could afford it!! I don’t quite understand why we need a Black News Channel? Blacks have their foot in everything already. There’s the Black Entertainment Awards, yet blacks are awarded in all other award shows. There’s Black Entertainment TV, yet blacks are in all other tv channels.

If we created a White Entertainment Awards, White Entertainment TV or White People News, we would all be called racists.

Racism will never die in this country because blacks will never let it die. Why can’t we all just stop all the Black this or Black that and just have this and that.

Okay 1) Stop saying if we started a “White channel/radio station/beauty pageant…” You already have those, that’s why a Black version was started in the first place. When news, radio and pageants began, Black people weren’t allowed to participate, so they started their own. Same goes for Greek organizations at universities. First, the Blacks weren’t allowed into school, but once they were allowed to get an education, they couldn’t do any extracurricular activities. So, they started their own organizations. Now, I don’t neccessarily support this initiative, I would rather see more women and minorities in places of power on already existing news networks. That would ensure that racial stereotypes weren’t encouraged and that all AMERICANS were represented equally.

2) It shocks me to see that some people still have such a narrow view of Black Americans- they are just as diverse as other ethnicities. For example, I am AFAM, have two parents that have been married to each other for 29 years (I am almost 24,so I was born AFTER they married) and they met in COLLEGE. My paternal grandfather served in the Air Force and my maternal grandmother is also a college graduate. My dad is a retired Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army (an officer, not an enlisted) and my mom is a high school teacher. I’m a college grad that got into school on my own merit, not affirmative action (I didn’t check any boxes on my college apps)that speaks two languages and has lived and studied in Europe. It was never a question of me or my brother going to college, it was just a question of where. I graduated from high school and college with no kids and a 3.5+ GPA. I drive an Accord, have an apartment in Cobb (saving to buy a house) and go to church. I know many others like me, but I know some black people with a whole lot more money than my family and some that need assistance from the government. I’m sure many white people have the same experiences. Just as White people can be rich as Midas or as poor and uneducated as a church mouse, Black people are the same.

So, the comments on here that skew black people as uneducated killers with no pride in themselves is disgusting. It would really benefit alot of you to step outside of your own protected world and really learn something about other races or cultures. I am lucky that I grew up in a way that encouraged me to get to know others, despite their racial background and that has widened my perspective on this world. Some of you have obviously not been so lucky, and your lack of open mindedness makes YOU sound ignorant and uneducated, thus making you the worse for passing judgement on others that you haven’t taken the time to get to know or ask about their life experiences.

I don’t know of any white family that has moved to a majority black area for a better and safer standard of living. However, most of the few blacks in my majority white neighborhood will tell you they moved where they are now because it’s safer. Out of a historically black male college with 98% black male students , the almost lone white guy was Valedictorian. Do I even need to mention the wonderful black enclave called Clayton County? I am sure in CC the class Valedictorian could very well be a 2.3 GPA out of 4.0 and still be head of the class. Have you been to a Lithonia city council meeting lately? And you all want to separate? I was scolded by a black HR person at my work place for using poor grammar, this is a corporate place of business, as a reason to not promote a black person. I was told I didn’t understand her culture. She just didn’t make a few msitakes like we all tend to do at times, she was impossible to understand. I could not bring myself to promote someone because of race and race only when they totally raped the Kings English, and I was suppose to not notice. I am so tired of the hand holding and the double standards. Why do we take notice of the blacks that are well spoken, as all educated people should be, and comment how articualate they are. If you attended school you should all be articualte. I shouldn’t have to take note of your good grammar. I never say that about well spoken whites. Because of affirmative action based only on race we are measured by a different ruler. So long as we have affirmative action I will not have a black doctor, how do I know you were smart enough for medical school or if you were the smartest black that applied and the laws said a black must be admitted. Until we are all measured by the same ruler your accomplishments will all be suspect.

Boy.. nothing like blacks trying to doing something positive for each other to bring out the bigots and racists out in ATL. The difference between black and white news, to those who asked, is simply this. White news (not crime… say kidnapping) gets reported vigoriusly while REAL black news (not crime.. say kidnapping) gets ignored on a regular. If you watched the news their portrayal is that only blacks and mexicans commit random acts of violence against each other while we know this isn’t the case. While majority of the white crimes be domestic disputes/property type issues.

Recently the country Egypt was mentioned and she argued with me until she was almost out of breath that Eqypt was not in Africa, that Africa was her homeland and she happens to know her homeland. Also,

Someone justified having segregated TV, schools, etc, by saying ‘there WAS A TIME when blacks weren’t allowed to be a part of these things’. Yet this same person who is encouraging socialized segregation wonders why racism is still alive and well.

Well, the important words are “WAS A TIME”. The CURRENT times and political correctness dictate that if you have groups which cater to only one race, and by and large do not include other races, that by definition it’s racist. There are no ALL WHITE organizations anymore, because it’s ILLEGAL. Therefore there is no need to have an ‘all black’ station.

Besides, mainstream news cannot get high enough ratings with all ‘happy’ stories. It’s sad, but true…people are more interested in a boy scout helping an older lady across the street.

Don’t judge a news broadcast by the color of its skin. There are all skin colors in news broadcasts these days. To have a news cast of all one color would be completely racist by definition. Don’t preach one thing, don’t complain one thing, and then DO that very same thing. I believe that is called being a hypocrite.

First of all, I don’t need to look anything up.

And yes, we have developed a separate set of rules.

You know, sorta similar to the ones that were given to us like, you know, not being able to vote, or hold jobs, or go to proper schools, or sit at lunch counters, or enter certain establishments, or use the restroom in some places, or drink from a water fountain that didn’t have our “label” on it, or even LOOK in the direction of a white woman without fearing death…Or how about being explicitly described by the federal government of this country as less than a whole human being?

Do I need to go on? So yeah, we’ve developed our own set of rules to living in this country—especially in the American South. The difference is ours were developed out of the necessity of self-preservation rather in the face of bigots (like you and some 80% of the posters on this blog).

The fact of the matter is, race relations were severely FUBAR (look it up) by the white men and women who ran (and truthfully, continue to run) this country. Sure great strides toward equality have been made, but only earnestly in the last 50 years or so. Race relations are certainly still a work in progress and for blacks to be able to survive in this society, we need to have our own set of rules.

P.S. Treating people how they wanted to be treated huh? Is that why every time I ask a white person (or a person in general for that matter) where they went to college I ask them what they studied, but nearly every time a white person asks me where I attended college, and I answer, their next question is “Oh, what sport did you play?”

Just because racism is now institutional instead of overt doesn’t mean it isn’t still racism. We clearly have very different views of equality.

As far as Obama is concerned, he and his campaign did not make this election about race- the media and the American public did. Just like they made Hillary about being the first woman. Yes, both are historical, but ALL news orgs have beat that angle within an inch of its life. If I hear, “first woman” or “first black” one more time, I may very well go crazy. You do not hear Barack say on a daily basis, “black this” and “black that” - it just doesn’t happen. It’s the media machine that has twisted it to ask if “he’s black enough” or “too black” and the racist people that won’t vote for him because of his race- these are the people that made this race ABOUT race. Obama acknowledges the history, but he does not capitalize on it. Again, if you opened your mind and saw the bigger, more objective picture, you would see that Obama’s stump speeches do not include race as a topic. The only time he specifically spoke on race was when he was forced to because of the constant barrage of media attention on that topic.

The Black community has a diverse population, just as does the White community. There are poor uneducated Whites and Whites that can walk into Phipps Plaza on a shopping spree. If your black, read her post at 2:29 and you’ll find out why you’re disliked so much. If you don’t do what is mentioned above, your a black person. If you do what was mentioned above, you’re a problem.

When i was growing up, racism wasn’t installed in my youth. I grew up making my own decisions, and my parents never once talked about racism.

Now I am an adult, and i am not racist, i hate everyone pretty equally!! I form my opinions on what i see, and i don’t see the black population helping itself rise from the ashes. Even the NAACP causes racist issues to exist!! Here’s a reason-if they had nothing to yell racism at, they would all be unemployed!!

The ‘advancement of colored people’ has pretty much stopped. while racism may exist in America, blacks have equal everything, therefore, the NAACP has no need to exist! How can they have ‘advancement’ of colored people when they are just as equal?

If the NAACP wants to really help blacks, they’d start talking to parents about keeping their kids in school, learning how to talk/speak properly!

It doesn’t matter how you grew up, but how you choose to live your life now. Choice is an amazing thing, as is Karma. I grew up a child of priveledge and it was great. However, my family made it a point to never treat anyone else as inferior. One thing my grandfather said many years ago which will always hold true was “There is never any reason to be unkind to anyone”. This is something I try to live by everyday and teach my own son. Hey m’divine, did you notice the same thing about blacks after moving here?? I did!! I hail from Texas, and moved to Newnan about 7 years ago. Since I’ve been here, i’ve seen the nastiness of both sides. While there are racist whites here in atlanta, and not many up north, it is the same about blacks and you can’t lie! Up north, for some reason, blacks actually value education and realize its value and importance. It’s the same for whites, too. Everyone needs to calm down. All this racial rhetoric is not going to solve anything. I looked over some disgusting post that are made on this thread, and I don’t understand all of the tough talk behind the anonymity of the internet. If you would like to voice opinions and stereotypes about the two races in question, let’s get together and designate a time and a place were we can begin the conversation on race in America. I understand both points made by the white and black Americans. Blacks don’t actually benefit all that much from affirmative action or EEOC laws in Corporate America 10 Blacks Just might get hired in a company due to Affirmative Action, but they are the only blacks in a company with over 500 employees. I can see how the white Americans on this thread would be offended in 2008 by having separate things just for the black culture. This is not 1960; we need to come together, not as whites, blacks, Liberals or conservatives but as Americans. We are the generation that we have been waiting on, so let’s move forward. If having a shouting match in a public forum will start the process of love and forgiveness in this nation lets start. All I ask is not to judge all by the actions of some. We are a diverse nation of people no one is exactly the same. I am a young Black American, not African American because I’m not from Africa; I’m the 7th generation of my family to be in America (450 Years) That pretty much just makes me an American nothing more nothing less. I have traveled the world defending freedom for America, and other countries have a tremendous level of hate for Americans, it doesn’t matter what color you are, With that being said we need to get off of our soap box and not let petty thing divide us anymore. If you only have friends that are your race STOP, If you only listen to music that predominately features artist from your race STOP, If you only go out to places were it is a majority of only your race STOP. Lester, if they actually reported crimes commited by whites, and not just hispanics and blacks, the news would be a lot longer. If a minority jumps the rail at MARTA, it makes the news. If you are white, you have to set off bombs or be in an Enron scandal to make the news, that’s the difference.
