5/22: More on Shelley Wynter

wynter.jpg

Rob Redding, a former WAOK-AM talk show host who operates Redding News Review, intimated on his Web site that Shelley Wynter’s critical remarks against Rep. David Scott (D- GA) may have contributed to WAOK letting him go. Wynter had also accepted consulting payments from a Republican opponent of Scott’s.

A Scott spokeswoman declined to comment except to deny the politician has ever placed any pressure on the station to fire Wynter.

Rick Caffey, the station general manager, didn’t return a call by deadline.

Wynter said his marketing firm did provide services to Deborah Honeycutt, who is running against Scott. But he said he openly disclosed that info to the station and while he has been tough on Scott and other black leaders such as Rep. John Lewis, he’s never even had Honeycutt on his show.

For now, Wynter said he’s exploring different options and is confident he’ll find something bigger and better.

I have never listened to Shelley Wynter, but I wish that I had. It is nice to know that there are more black conseratives out there, and that we are not all pawns of the DNC. I do not identify with any party, but I do more often side with the Republicans.

I would listen to Shelley sometimes, especially if it was just political talk, although I didn’t agree with him on most issues. Interesting that he was fired. I do wish Aleshia Morgan and Derrick Bozeman would get more time, love their shows.

this reminds me of when the GOP went to New Jersey and gave black preachers money to sway their congregations. How can anyone take this dude seriously? Remember he is for Obama, who was voted the most “liberal” senator in the Senate, yet he called himself a conservative, anyone see the H.Y.P.O.C.R.I.S.Y??????? Shelly was a joke and a lackey!!

I am going to have to say Honeycutt not being on The Right Side is not true. He has had her on at least twice. Once when she was running against McKinney for her Congressional seat and maybe a little over a month ago when she mentioned on the show she was going up against Scott.

I am dissapointed that Mr Wynter was removed from the line up. He brought a perspective that was informative and entertaining to a station at that time failed to attract young listeners and advertisemnt revenue. He will be truely missed.

Shelley wasn’t a lackey or a joke. If you bothered to listen to the show, Shelley repeatedly said that he didn’t agree with a lot of Obama’s policy positions. His support was based on what Obama becoming President would do for the community. Having someone that African-American young people could look up to, other than a rapper or an athlete meant more to him than agreeing with Obama and his policy positions. Why question the man’s support for Obama when he clearly stated why he was supporting him?

Shelly provided compelling radio and a wide range of diverse guests, with different perspectives..from Alton Maddox to Goldwater…rarely have I heard a host be able to argue two sides of an issue…no other host on WAOK has the intellectual chops to do the same. The idea that black people need a host that they agree with is ludicrous. I have already written WAOK…this listener is gone.

Imhotep:

Interesting. I take it that you forget that the Democrats pay off Black preachers by giving them TAX PAYER DOLLARS in various social programs to sway their congregations to keep voting 92% + for the Democrats. Look at the bang up job that this plan has done for our community.

At least the evil Republicans were handing out only campaign money that was voluntarily given rather than money taken from others using the IRS.

I am greatly saddened that Shelley Wynter has left the air. He was a great counter-balance to the strong leftwing bias on WAOK and the vast majority of other Black talk radio shows and newspapers. They operate like 24 hour marketing and promotion arms for the Democratic Party within our community.

Shelley was effective at challenging this linkage, focus on why certain conditions remain in our community despite this near universal coverage of Democrats in the elected spots in our community - the very people that we popularly elected to preside over our interests.

If the reports are true indeed Shelley should have made full disclosure of the money received from the Honeycutt campaign. He did mention several times that he has a political development consulting company which worked to take young leaders and get them into leadership positions over our community.

Sadly while so many of those who are popular within the Black community because they are more in line with what is POPULARLY ASSUMED to be the best interests of Black people focus on protests and on changing OUTSIDE forces so that the Black community will have resources rained down upon us. Shelley sees that the main need for change resides WITHIN our community. In telling people that “they are free” you also generate a lot of enemies.

Functionally the agents for the continued entrenchment of the Democratic Party inside of the Black community act in a more comprehensive and effective manner to promote their party to Black folks and feed the financial ecosystem that is present in this scheme more than anything that Shelley Wynter could have concocted.

I now can save hard drive space in recording not recording his show on a daily basis for future consumption because little else on WAOK is worth listening to, certainly not the morning show or Bev Smith - which both give voice to the Black Political Machine but rarely challenges it regarding the results that it has delivered to our community. (See Clayton County as a reference).

Shelley was the best thing Waok had going for it. I am a democrat but he gave listeners a different perspective on everything. Shelley had the best show on WAOK. It was refreshing to hear something other than the victimization mentality that is spewed on the other shows (especially Bev Smith). I found Shelley to be highly informed and a delight to listen to. I certainly hope the dust-up and “Nicole” video had nothing to do with Shelley’s departure (remember, Nicole—-karma is a b*h; it’s gonna get you). I wish nothing but the best for Shelley and hope he will turn up on the dial somewhere (maybe WSB or WGST..hint, hint). Anyway, WAOK just lost another listener.

Iam really truly ashame of WAOK for putting the race pimp, derrick boazman in the 2-6 time slot.”SHOULD BARRACK OBAMA GO AND JOIN A WHITE CHURCH TO PLEASE WHITE PEOPLE?” derrick boazman is a joke, and waok should be ashamed for promoting all that black racism. with the cluless preacher wife in the morning, and hate the white man boazman in the afternoon, i am definately switching to another station.

I am amazed that WAOK has any sponsors at all with Shelley off the line-up. In the few times that I’ve caught her, Dr White sounds like an ignorant, airhead incapable of logical communication. Rob Wilson does not come across as - let’s just say “credible”. And now with Shelley gone, I no longer have to grind my teeth through Brenda Bowden’s mangled news updates. Derrick Bozeman seems to lack the ability to think critically - he spews and encourages the same ole, same ole. One would think that in such a large metropolis as Atlanta that WAOK would not have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find professional Black Progressive Talk Radio talent …the station is really quite pityful - I will not return as a listener…

WAOK it’s true, we get a giggling granny preacher’s wife, who is so amazed or naive about things everyday women/men experience. No offense to Mrs. White, but her contribution is lacking. Then there is the garble dialogue called english of the ‘join my network you idiots’ and once you do, I can speak to you as I like, Rob Wilson. Who needs a speech class, his contribution is zero. Derrick with ‘we are victims people, by you know who’ day in, day out. The one bright spot Shelly, with his good and bad, they toss out like he never existed. WAOK no more goodbye. And the news people, is that what they were trying to do?

Boazman also commented that leaders such as kim yong il of north korea are sitting back waiting for Obama to be president because he will be weak, isnt that the same fear tactics we cry about the right wing when they use it? with friends like boazman, obama doesnt need any enemies. OK, I’m not seeing the problem with Shelley’s supposed consulting work for Honeycutt. Especially when everyone else on that station — Boazman, Janice Mathis of Rainbow Push, and Lorraine’s Jacques White’s pastor husband as president of Atlanta NAACP — is part of the so-called civil rights establishment. And we know good and well they take money from and represent the agendas of, all sorts of people and politicians.

As much as I disliked Shelley, I thought he was the smartest and most skilled talk show host on the station followed by Bev Smith, and Dr. White. It was nice to hear someone speak in multisyllabic sentences for a change.

My main gripe with Dr. White is that she frequently invites ignorant guests on the show and panders to mindless issues and the ignorance of the listeners. Bev Smith, on the other hand, has excellent guests, and is a real professional, but she tends to stifle the discussion with her incessant editorializing.

Rob, the financial Guru, is horrible to listen to. His advice is banal and has nothing to say that you don’t already know. He shamelessly destroys every grammatical rule in English language. He’s an example of why white folks don’t take us seriously. I turn him off immediately.

The same can be said about Boseman, who is no grammarian himself. He always finds a spot on the cross as a victim of white supremacy. His logic pattern is bizarre. I always point him out to my 8-year old son as example of why school is so important.

With the exception of Dr. White & Bev Smith, WAOK is below amateur, it is a big embarrassment to the black community to have so many functionally illiterate guests, hosts, and callers.

Today I turned on the radio and heard Rob reminiscing about his ‘hustleng’ days, when he was a ‘hustlah’ and a criminal, getting his and his peeps cash with a little ‘thuggen’ and drugging. Disgusting. He acts as if informed minds want to hear about his former glory days as a criminal. I guess he thinks it gives him some sort of street credit. But what educated person wants to hear that garbage again and again every other day in his broken slang. Ugggh. Not. So I turned the station. Very rarely will you find a talk-show host who is able to have an open and honest discussion covering the pro’s and con’s of views from both sides of the isle. I consider myself the compassionate conservative that George Bush the sham claimed to be. I listened to Shelly RELIGIOUSLY. At times I agreed with him at times I disagreed with him. Either way, he kept it interesting. I don’t even listen to WAOK anymore since he left. Most liberal hosts are boring (including the one they have filling Shelly’s spot) and most conservative hosts are much to arrogant to even listen to. My friends in other Metro areas have been jealous of the fact that we had such a program. Now I have to tell them that it is no more. shelly was a smart? shelly was a bigot, at least when he said homosexuality “is a choice”. oh, did he get the brothers and sisters fired up with that bs. i’ll tell you this: i’d rather have a gay couple living on both sides of me than have one bigot in the neighborhood. their are many larry craigs(gop)rep, utah, airport toe-tapper. there are many brothers like that within the black race. to be honest, though, these gays that are so hated in the black community don’t leave their partners pregnant, high-and-dry. oh, that hated white man rarely leave these sisters high-and -dry and their kids fatherless. you brothers are a joke.

Wynters , a basket case , literally ! political bi polarism would be putting it calmly, compounded daily with sheer shallow’nicity. brother bozzman is ‘right on ’ rather than right side . these so called educated new “coloured people” with this coloured people republicanism is pathologically insane , at leave of their senses - they obviously are not sensitive or caring ofissues black ‘oh’ thats right , they are coloured people ~ in short ,pathetic.. that is not to say by any vague sense that the DNC is all that but, it is the lessor evil in regard to the two factions. the rebublican party gist is to push , promote , propagate the reverse descrimination issue to the hilt . anything a black deserves or ask for , their agenda is to block it . look around people , whos in the white house now ? do you still have a house ? a job ? soon no more 911 emergency service in fullton county . they are republicans klansman in suits . in my opinion. a black republican is akin to a black kkk member and thats just plain oxymoronic * so my people come out of the ‘in voque , politically correctiveness , get your head out of the bubble . shelly pushed the rebublicam agenda and daily did a jig dance for a few pieces of silver , a sellout , a house ninja .to”uncle tom s.wynters ” i say good riddance with a serious’nicity

I appreciate Shelley’s perspectives a great deal. Anyone who really listened understood he cares tremendously about the black community…helping us to truly be responsible by destroying the victim mentality, critically look at what the DNC has done for us. and putting principle before policy. His support for Obama more than any recent event demonstrates this fact. However, to often time he simply was outright rude and disrespectful to those who opinions he disagreed thereby making it easier to let him. Some of the disrespect at times would make me cringe. I hope he resurfaces because his perspective are greatly needed. Hopefully this will teach him to extend more professional and personal courtesy to the average caller…

I miss the show TREMENDOUSLY. While I am a black conservative, I can’t really take the alternative conservative shows in the afternoon; way too arrogant. It was nice to finally hear a black man on the radio talking about NOT being a victim, but being an overcomer in life. I am so sick of this “victim mentality” that we have as a people. Shelley’s show gave an alternative voice to the “we’re still suffering from slavery… that’s why we can’t take care of our families” type of mentality. WAOK…. I can’t even stand the other hosts you have on your show. Guess I have to turn back to Sean Hannity. (Yuck!) But you give me no choice.

Shelly Winters was the only reason for me to turn off the Satelite radio. It was nice to listen to someone that wil argue his point. I cant take the others on 1380 and derick just dont have that it for a talk show host… so he will last on 1380.

There is another black conservitive radio host on the airwaves. His name is Herman Cain on WSB radio from 7pm to 10pm MONDAY thru FRIDAY with a repeat broadcast on Saturdays from 12n to 2pm on WSB radio.

I will miss hearing Shelly Wynter on the radio. He was the only reason I would listen to WAOK. The other radio show host on WAOK just can’t cut it for me; it’s boring. His show was how I found out about Dr. Deborah Honeycutt running for Congress for the 13th district which is the district I live in. I’m glad there will a choice for Congress of the 13th district; especially for Clayton county.

I will keep my ears and eyes open in hopes of hearing that Shelley Wynter is back on the air because I miss his perspective on the black community. I did’nt always agree with him but it is good to hear someone speak differently about the problems in the black community.

Remember Herman Cain on WSB radio from M-F 7pm to 10pm. I believe Shelley will be back on the airwaves and you will have more than one black concervative talk radio host.

I wonder, how much longer will WAOK 1380 AM last!!!!!!!!!!

I never listened to WAOK, until I bumped into Shelly Wynter. He is very smart and at times I did not agree with some of his views (not too many), he was an intelligent, articulate host that made you think. He exposed the typical ignorant mentality of POOR ME,THE WHITE MAN IS OUT TO GET ME, I MUST KEEP FOLLOWING THE DNC, AND NOT MAKE THEM ACCOUNTABLE. I will be listening to Shelly on: www.ustalknetwork.com.

The host that they replaced him makes me want to get his High School credits, and question who allowed this guy to graduate; along with Rob. Also, this Alicia Thomas, she has nothing worth while to say. She is the typical WAOK host, give the little people what makes them feel good. Before she starts blaming the white man, she must be involved in her community, not when an elections is upcoming, as do all the other politicians on WOAK.

WAOK, you will continue to be a small town radio station that has no business being in a large market as Altanta. SHELLY, I WILL BE LISTENING FOR YOU. I HOPE ONE OF THE BIG BOYS PICKS YOU UP.

Wynter says he is not voting for McCain because he doesn’t believe McCain is conservative enough. So he is endorsing Obama. WTF! It’s obvious he doesn’t think before talking, but does he even HEAR what he says??

Guess what Shelly? You cut a TV spot for Republican Deborah Honeycutt this week. You also were cheering her on at the debate. So, are you a Republican on her payroll or a Republican who just likes her?

Oh wait, here’s the answer: you were paid $5,000 in October as a consultant to Republican Honeycutt according to www.fec.gov.

Radio Update, ummm who cares? Shelley is a Republican so why are you surprised that he was cheering on Honeycutt? What are you trying to prove?
