I’m over the cuteness
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The high: A winner is announced right away with no “little chat” on the part of the judges.
The low: Everything old is new again.
In the words of the Hyundai commercial: Duh.
Given that worshiping at the altar of retro is a rite of passage for everyone under the age of 30, interpreting the fashions of 20 or 30 years ago doesn’t seem to be that much of a challenge.
I mean, don’t we see flared jeans shuffle past us every hour, hems trodden underfoot? And haven’t leggings outlived the novelty stage? Even the poodle skirt fails to embarrass. You want outdated? Do the bustle.
Anyway.
I think everyone in the “PR” viewing audience was sufficiently impressed by Team Jillian’s winning lightweight denim collection. The pieces were modern, wearable and - all together now — cohesive. They could go straight from the Parsons workroom to Macy’s (or Bluefly.com) to my closet. And that’s the problem.
It was a knockout of a collection, and I would have worn any of those designs, but its professional polish lacked the grit that makes fashion fantastic, outrageous, desirable. The more I watch “PR,” the more I want winners with edge, not just winners who can make an outfit that’ll fly off the racks in the hands of spend-happy teens and 30-somethings alike. I want less cute.
Consider Kit’s black-and-white mismatched prints, or Sweet P’s tulip dress with — whoa! — yet another ’80s trend, the sleeveless mock turtleneck.
The last word: I want to make a bold statement: Chris March got sent home not because of the wingspan of his shoulder pads, but because he didn’t make good TV.
Over the last four episodes we’ve been surprised and bored and annoyed and intrigued. So now it’s time to make a prediction. Who are the early favorites? I like the soft-spoken Steven, but I don’t think he’ll last, especially after this week. I’m looking at Kit or Sweet P.

Pick a season any season. I just can’t take much more of the stereotypical obnoxious queens on this series. I guess he’s in the cast for the drama and flair so you are dead on about designers getting oft more because they don’t make good television than any to do with their designs.

Can you please title your post “Americas Next Top Model” or “ANTM” then a subtitle? Please do this so when I see the title, I know immediately not to waste any time reading it.
I’m sorry Rodney - but can’t Faith have her own blog about the show (similar to the Idol Blog)? Then you could keep the Radio/TV Blog about general Radio and TV?
thanks.

Very disappointing coming from VS. The girls were modeling what? From class to ‘near sleeze”. It just wasn’t there!

It’s a TV show. It belongs in the newly-consolidated TV and Radio Blog. I actually find it refreshing to read a well-written blog entry now and then, even if I don’t watch the show.
Personally, I think Faith Dawson should write all of the articles posted in this blog. She writes circles around Rodney’s grammatical and punctuation disasters easily. Nice job, Faith!

The show’s definitely at its worst when it encourages and rewards marketability. Look at how the beat down Santino a couple years back; his runway show as b-o-r-i-n-g. They encourage innovation then laugh at it. Whatever. I think they’ll love Jillian cuz she’s all precision. Rami’s smooth. Kit continues to surprise me. Victorya is a b-, well, not nice person, but she’s calculated a la Jill and is smart. On their way out the door: Ricky, Steven, Christian, Elisa, then maybe Sweet P (who also can surprise).

I know who will win the final on PR this season. Of the last group on the runway, the actual finalists plus the one that is supposed to throw us off, I will pick the collection I like the best. It won’t necessarily be the one I would wear, but the designer who I feel really gets it. That designer will not win. I am 0 for 3 so far and so is everyone else I know who has watched.
Of course I don’t recall any of the past winners find success doing anything more than what they were doing before the show. Well that and showing up at hotel parties, night clubs and as judges on future seasons of PR.

This is on a diffrent topic, but it concerns “local” radio and I did not see the article concerning “Chris Krok” being fired until today. Most of the “comments” were negative toward Krok. Here’s something positive. First, he receives an award and the same day is canned. He may have done some outlandish stunts, but he did have several positive points which are seldom heard on the radio today. He was very open in his feelings about many subjects. He shared his personal feelings as few other on the radio do. He had principles which he backed up with actions. He was, for the most part, very entertaining.

The formula for these shows appears to be drama. Funny thing though with Project Runway, the challenges and designs are all the drama I need. Why do they think we need or respond to all the fighting, etc.? Not needed. This is one show where the contestants actually have some talent and what they create is fun and interesting. After watching last year and seeing how they rewarded individual episode winners, it appears they are making sure who they want in their final grouping; Rami, Victoria, Jillian will probably be in the final 5 with maybe Christian (only becuase of his attitude) and Kit.

Christian’s immaturity/inexperience and MASSIVE ego will be his undoing. It’s just a matter of how long he’ll last among Elisa, Ricky and the other one-notes. If he were five years older, Christian could do some damage. Jillian’s focus, is surprising.

This seems to be a safe year - no edge - but they admonished Rick the first week when they said his outfit showed no edginess. Each week he barely escapes with judges because there is someone ever so slightly worse than him. Hopefully they will get the job done with Rick this week. Perhaps they should rewatch episode 1.

I have watched this show since the first season. The challenges are very interesting. I think that it is important that items be something that people will buy and wear. That does not mean that the designs should be boring, they just need to be something that will put money in the pockets of the designers. They have bills to pay as well. As far as the cloths of the 80’s coming back, no thanks. Been there, done that.

Chris was marched out of there because his fabrics looked dated and (while I liked the dress) evidently it wasn’t made well close up.
I wish they had some warning about the judges. Don’t even try to pull off an evening gown in front of Donna Karan unless it’s perfect, fool!
If Chris’ Hawaiian shirts were any indication, his days were numbered. Victoria took the strategic route of picking a weak team leader and then throwing him under the bus. Very smart, but her outfit showed that she isn’t as talented as some of the others. Sweet P keeps impressing me.
Once they give Christian a challenge where he can’t design a jacket, he’s OUT! And I loved the overalls, but was not thrilled by the poodle skirt interpretation.
Good job, Faith! You are so IN!
