Thanks God For Sirius. Alt Nation 21 played the songs on 99X 4 months ago. Way to jump on great new songs local new rock / alternative station. More Stern, more great music and WAY more variety. When will local terrestrial radio wake up and realize that more people are going to go to alternative sources for in car, and at work entertaiment? Local radio has become irrelevant and will continue to be so only on a much grander scale. When bands that create great music cant get played on the terrestrial radio because they dont fit in the neat little boxed up playlists, they continue to look for and find new ways to get their music out there. When the bands stop caring about radio, radio will be all conservative talk crap and sports and maybe a good classic rock station overloaded with Zep and Skynard. Thanks to Clear Channel for ruining a once truly great medium. Hopefully local people buying local stations and offering diverse programming and real personalities can save radio. Then again, maybe not.

I’m a big fan of satellite radio as well. I’ve used XM for several years now and love it. I don’t enjoy much of the music I heard on regular radio these days and would much rather here music from Africa, jazz, blues, or 60’s rock and roll.

Nothing beats small-town radio. Try WKEU and WHIE in Griffin for lots of down-home folksiness. What a hoot!

People if you only listen to XM/Sirus then please quit reading and posting in this blog. The blog is for local radio/tv not for you telling everybody that you listen to XM/Sirus.

I currently listen to talk radio because I’m sick of hearing the same 30 songs being played over and over again. Maybe I will try satellite however; a lot of garbage is being produced these days. In Urban/Contemporary music, where are the real singers, with bands playing real instruments, and decent lyrics? This generation has not contributed to the legacy of incredible musicians of any genre.
I know this blog is supposed to be about local radio only, but this is indicative of the music industry as a whole.

After I grew tired of hearing the latest top 3 songs ad nauseam, I got XM radio installed in my car. I can listen to pretty much whatever I want when I want.
I give local a chance during emergencies, but there usually isn’t enough to keep me from going back.

I listen to stuff I find through other fans of bands I like. Forget radio, except for Sirius.
Atlanta isn’t the only city whose radio stations play the same thing again and again. And again. And again. Till you’re sick of it.
It’s not just here. It’s the industry itself, which thrives on getting the same 10 artists played ALL the time …forget whether there’s any actual talent. Forget whether people are SICK of the same stuff all the time. Talent? Forget it.
No thanks. I’ll stick with the truly talented bands whose names aren’t necessarily household names yet, but who sure deserve to be, and who have extremely loyal followings.

Funny, I was just having this conversation with some friends last night, one of which works for one of the stations on this list.
One reason why we hear the same song over and over is that the “average” listener listens for ten minutes (usually while driving). The stations think that since people only listen for ten minutes, it’s ok to play the same song three times within an hour. However, I believe that if stations played a better variety of music and not the same processed, cookie-cutter “hits,” we’d listen for more than ten minutes (while we’re at work, at home, etc.).
So, radio producers, do you want to cater to the ten-minute crowd, or do you want to do something to get us to listen for more than ten minutes?

Dear atl music,
I do not like to listen to the same music over and over either……just like I hate to read in a local radio station blog that “oh I hate local radio and I never listen”. If you do not like the station then do not listen but please quit your complaining about it. If you find that XM gives you what you want then great……but quit your constant complaining about local radio if you never listen. Also, If you have a XM radio then take it with you. The Pioneer INNO is a great choice.
