1/24: Q100’s Bert/Kimmer updates
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Bert Weiss has been signed for another five years, guaranteeing him a spot on the dial at Q100 through 2012, according to John Dickey, executive vice president of Atlanta-based Cumulus Broadcasting, which owns Q100 and 99X. He said there will be a press conference next week to provide more details once Weiss returns from vacation.

Weiss pulls in strong numbers among women ages 18 to 34 and has expanded his show’s appeal to older women in recent times. Since he came aboard in 2001, his show has consistently outperformed the rest of the station.
In other words, Cumulus needed to sign the Bert Show to keep Q100 afloat. (Dickey doesn’t agree with that assertion, saying the station ratings have improved outside of Bert’s time slot since they took over the company last year.) And five years is a serious time commitment for any morning show when typical contracts run three years.
Dickey also claimed Star 94 chased after Bert to no avail but Mark Kanov, general manager of Star 94, denied that, saying he has never spoken to Weiss’ agent Bob Eatman and has met Weiss just once a few months back at a function. “He’s good where he is,” Kanov said. “We have no place for Bert.” (Dickey said it was Kanov’s boss Don Benson who made the negotations, not Kanov. I left a message with Benson to see whether that was true.)
And though their contracts are not aligned directly with Bert’s, “the other three [on the Bert Show, Jeff Dauler, Jenn Hobby and Melissa Carter] are extended for as long as Bert,” Dickey said.
And I keep getting emails from fans wondering about the future of Kim “The Kimmer” Peterson, who was let go from WGST in November. He’s riding his Chopper and playing lots of golf while he awaits offers through his agent, who is also Eatman.
Eatman said he’s got something in the frying pan for the Kimmer but wouldn’t say what. “My agent is checking on one, maybe two leads in town,” the Kimmer said. For 60-year-old Kimmer to leave town, he said it would have to be a huge offer because he’d like to stay in Atlanta.
In fact, he said if he can’t get a decent radio gig, he’ll retire. “I can’t imagine myself starting a new career,” the Kimmer said Wednesday. “I don’t really have to.” Right now, he’s going a bit stir crazy because there are great topics he’d love to gab about with his fans such as the Michael Vick situation and Hillary Clinton running for president. “I’m chomping and anxious,” he said. “Until I hear from my agent, I’m just hanging loose.”

I love the Bert show - Bert is awesome!
However the past week has been awful - the worst radio I’ve heard in a long long time! Melissa & Jen sounded like a couple two professionals doing their job. I know they filled the time with replays of old stories/phone scams and what have you but it didn’t stop me from switching stations on a daily basis.

Hopefully the Bert show didn’t sign the rest of that horrible cast on for 5 more years. Jen, Melissa and fat guy are so damn annoying. Yeah, Jen, we get it - you love weddings. And okay, Melissa, you’re gay. Wow. Great job. And that fat guy, whatever his name is, spit it out already. Why do you talk so damn slow. Get to the point! Ugh! That show sucks. My recommendation to everyone is to go get Satellite Radio.

I am happy to hear this but I have to tell you for my money Jenn carries the show. She is the most real and down to earth member of the bunch who deals with real life problems. The rest of them are just not living normal lives that most of us can relate to. Case in point, Bert is like a mega-star, Jeff is just a goofball who makes a living at not acting professionally, and Melissa is carrying the touch for gay rights and is way too political (and politically correct) for most of us. So I say Q100, now that you have a deal with the best suporting actor go out and throw some big time money to Jenn, the real star of the show!

As for the Kimmer aka “Da Rimmer” or GI Jerk-Stay in retirement you puke!
You hosted a “Give war a chance” rally in 2003. I hope you reflect on that as the death toll of military climbs. You played a role in putting our service men and women in harms way. But then again as a typist during Vietnam you never had to give war a chance did you?

I really enjoy the show when Bert is absent! When Jenn, Melissa, & Jeff host together, they are way more relaxed as they carry on, and are WAY more funny than with Bert there. Bert is too hung up on himself. He needs his own show on his own station (so that we can tune him out and tune the others in!).

Oh please JennFan! Are we talking about the same person here?? Ms. I have a friend for all occasions/possible instances that may be mentioned on the show?? She’s tripping over her ego on a daily basis and needs a big ol’ dose of reality!
She’s a hypocrite & she’s judgemental and the sooner she moves on the better.

Are you kidding me?? Jenn carries the show?? What have you been smoking?? If I hear one thing about how much she loves weddings I will scream. Her and that Tracey Puleso should move over to Star 94. Their voices annoy me to all ends. I really just listen to hear Bert & Jeff. I like Melissa but I am so tired about hearing about Katie Jo this Katie Jo that. Alright you have a girlfriend… whoopee! I am more than overjoyed to get into the car and turn on my XM radio and listen to Opie and Anthony. Now they need to be in the Atlanta Market…..

Jeff and Jenn carry the show. Both of them have great senses of humor and make the show great to listen to. Melissa is okay some days, but Bert is terrible to deal with…you can tell he is not intelligent, and he has such a HUGE ego (napoleon syndrome, since he’s 5’3).

Kimmer is a great American and the sooner he is back on the air the better off Atl radio will be. All you Kimmer Complainers need to get a grip and realize that we need more people like him in the media who are not afraid to tell it like it is and who are not governed by political correctness.

The Bert show can be humerous at very short intervals, but all they talk about EVERYDAY is someones relationship in termoil. Not everone out there in radio land is obsessed with their relationship. The next time you listen to the show see how long it takes for them to get on the topic of “relationships”. The show is cool if you’re a “Oprah kind of woman”(no offense to Oprah) but the show is not for anyone without a vagina (no offense).
The Kimmer is a bigot who should not be given another radio show. Did anyone ever hear his show from a couple of years back, where he encouraged his callers to call in and tell racist jokes? It was the most offensive thing I’ve ever heard on radio!
The Frank Ski show is unlistenable. We get it Frank—you know famous people.
Most morning I’d rather drive in my care for 30 minutes to work in complete silence than listen to what passes for morning radio here in Atlanta.

THE BERT SHOW WAS GOOD WHEN IT FIRST STARTED, BUT NOW THEY ALL TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED, AND SINCE THEY THINK THEY ARE SUCH BIG STARS, THEY HAVE LOST THE GOOD THINGS THEY STARTED WITH—ENOUGH WITH MELISSA AND HER GIRLFRIEND—WE DON’T NEED TO HEAR THAT EVERY DAY—JEFF IS THE FUNNIEST ONE NOW.

I’m also a FORMER V103 listener that like the Bert Show. The Bert Show is not the BEST, but I would rather listen to them than that AWFUL V103 morning show. Frank Ski and Wanda suck BIG time and Ms. Sophia should be banned from radio. She’s/He’s not funny, she/he always mess up her/his news with wrong information and sometimes it sounds like he/she is making up stuff and she’s just not funny. Why is she/he still on the air? Wanda is SO not funny, I can’t believe she’s a comedian. Who is paying to see her? And Frank sounds like an old guy who’s trying to be cool by taking about all the famous people he knows. Yes, I think Bert definitely deserved the five-year commitment.

BERT sounds gay and he probably is gay! JEN is just trash and talks too much about weddings and sh*t. MELISSA is Tenn. trash and has an opinion about everything and is mad at the whole world because she is gay! “Producer Tracy’s” voice is the most annoying voice in the world. I would rather hear wounded badgers howl. JEFF is the FUNNIEST!!!!!!!

Enough with the Gayness! The straights are oppressed with the gays. If we stop a gay person form doing their thing, they claim prejudice and run to GLAAD-same with the blacks-they run to the NAACP. Get a life and a grip. We are tired of teh same crap over and over. Kimmer at least got people to speak their mind and exercisee thier freedom of speech. NO PC! We did not have PC until Clinton came in. Let’s jsut call a spade a spade and a shovel a shovel and not a dirt lifting device. Just DEAL WITH IT you “people.”

I’ve never listened to Bert, I only remember seeing him in a commercial for that psychic who turned out to be a fraud/crook (Imagine that!). I love the Kimmer and look forward to his return on the airwaves. Since his departure, there’s no need to ever change the station from WSB. Neal Boortz, Clark Howard, and Chris Krok are the best things going on Atlanta radio. Other than that, you have to rely on CD’s. Check out an up and coming band called Brother Henry for good music.

Melissa’s over opinionated; Jen’s an idiot who loves the sound of her own voice; Bert’s witty but then again it is his show; Jeff’s the funniest by far.
I say the show would be better off with just Bert & Jeff; if you need a female voice/opinion shove an intern in front of a mic - what else are they there for???

Do you guys use Mad Libs to compose your comments? Cause it sounds like y’all been saying the same thing for years about Larry and Eric, and Toucher/Barnes Leslie and Jimmy too. Let’s see, here it is: “Comment on Morning Show”….
I really think (insert male hosts name here) has a big ego and talks too much. (insert female hosts name here) never contributes anything to the show and her voice sounds awful. And I hate it when (insert other name here) talks, because he/she is never funny! I would rather listen to (name of satellite company or annoying sound effect) than listen to them!
Yawn.
Sure, every station’s morning show has its good parts and its bad parts. Bert must be doing something good to run the show as he has (ratings prove that much), and considering that Atlanta likes to keep their morning shows on for YEARS (like Steve and Vikki who must be going on what, 15 years now?), getting to sign on for another 5 years is a good thing for him. And he regularly gives stuff back to the community with different charity drives and stuff like that.
Radio is a tough place to have a guaranteed career and raise a family(as we’ve all seen with the changes this year). I say “Good for him”.

Five more years of Jenn Hobby. Put a gun to my head now. You could have a drinking game for how often she says “like” while she is talking. You would be drunk within the first two minutes. I have listened to them on and off since the show began, but after trying to sit through Jenn & Melissa this week, I think I am done for good.

The appeal of the show is that they are like everyone else. Sometimes they are hilarious, sometimes they are not, sometimes you agree and sometimes you don’t. That’s the point people.
What makes the show special is that there isn’t another one like it. I hope they all stay.

I’ve listened to the Bert Show almost since day one. When Lindsey (remember her?) left and Jenn took over, I found her so annoying. But after about a year or two the show toned down her sunshine and daisies persona, she started speaking up more, and she grew on me. Now she is one of my favorite personalities on the show.
Yes the Bert Show has it’s bad points. Even though Jenn is one of my favorites, she needs to keep her obsession with weddings to hereself. I don’t have a problem with her plugging her show like she does, but the worse bits they do, concern weddings. The Battle of the Bridesmaids was so boring and stupid. I’ve said this once on this blog before, but the only good thing about the Diamond Dash bit was Hoss. Of course he could be acting, but his complaining of how whiny the women were sounded so sincere, that I couldn’t help but be entertained by his misery. (Of course they were going to attact shallow, whiny, 20-something women, who else would put that much emphasis on a lousy engagement ring.) As not to pick on Jenn, Melissa constant fawning over Katy Jo is annoying, but she did the same thing many years ago with her last girlfriend, and then her kidney transplant. Just about every story Jeff tells involves his wife Jessica. Also Phil/Mark obsession with UGA was annoying. It wouldn’t have been so bad if HE HAD ACTUALLY GONE TO UGA! Come on Dude you couldn’t even get in.
The Bert show does a lot of things for the community and for that I give them credit. Bert’s Big Adventure, the Pay it Forward thing for My Sister’s House, the school supplies they collected for local Katrina Evacuees, among other things. I think that’s kind of cool for them to do.

Since my morning show choice keep shrinkling I now pop in on the Bert Show. My impression are this. Bert Wuss is way too in touch with his female side for 20 year-old rich frat boy haircut. Grow up dude. Melissa well I don’t really care that she is gay. I still remember when she used to fill-in for Leslie on the Morning X. I liked her better then. Now it is I am gay and proud. It gets boring and I hardly listen. Jenn she is what have grown to meet more of and that is the Florida Valley Girl. It must have to do with too much sun baking the brain but I think she is hot so I will give her a break. Jeff is funny and would like to see him on another show that appealed to me. Melissa and Jen solo wow what a trainwreck. It sounds like college radio without the cool factor.

Steve, just what DID you do in the ‘Nam? There were a lot of folks there in all sorts of roles, in support of those doing the actual fighting, and dying. Not everyone who went there wound up humping through the jungles and rice paddies. Steve, I don’t think you did anything remotely resembling “serving” your country. There are, however, a large number of people who enjoyed listening to the Kimmer and it seems to me that you want to deny him, and us, our First Amendment right of free speech (since that is what most liberal Democrats want to do to conservatives). Sure wish ol’ Rodney could BAN YOU from this blog.

Bud, just because we are “older” doesn’t mean we have to subscribe to what our children, or grandchildren, listen to on the radio. Us “old” folks have more money to spend, and more time, to listen to quality radio, such as the Kimmer with his crew of Wayne (NO OFFENSE!), “Snake” Davis, and Jim Gossett. By the way, would LOVE to hear more ‘60’s music on at least ONE Atlanta radio station IF any radio exec’s read these blogs. I’d just as soon NOT have to buy Sirius equipment (tho there appear to plenty of Sirius and XM salespeople on these blogs).

I enjoy happy hour at 4pm, and The Kimmer was part of my routine. There is nothing to laugh about on the radio during drive time anymore. I felt that Kim had one prupose and that was to entertain, and he was very entertaining. It didn’t matter that we agree or disagree with some of his rants. He made some great points and usually everyone had fun with his antics. For one, I miss the laughter, and I miss Kim.

I switched from V-103’s “Frank & Wanda” a.m. show to Q100 about 2 years ago. I think Bert and the gang are creative…rarely a dull moment (btw…what ever happened to that guy who’s ex-wife refused to pay child support and the crazy woman set on sabotaging her ex-fiance’s wedding?). Anyways, I like the Bert Show although I wish Jenn wouldn’t repeat herself so much or be so judgmental. Jeff is a riot — I love that he has the balls to say what most people are thinking but don’t because it’s not PC.

Everyone that gets their nose bent out of shape over Kim Peterson and his show never listened to the show enough to understand where the Kimmer was coming from. There is no denying that Peterson was conservative but his rantings and ravings were done to call attention to things that needed attention in an enjoyable and entertaining manner. By playing the “fool” he was able to elicit discussion in an entertaining manner. This is the job of a talk show host.
In setting the stage for discussion he brought listeners to the show. His demographics were older but anyone in marketing can tell you that it is the older demographic that has the cash for discretionary spending. The younger demographic may make more impulse purchases but the big ticket items are bought by the older folks.
I found the Kimmer show enjoyable and I know many members of the armed services enjoyed his show over the Internet. He had a loyal local following and any station that picks him up will have an instant audience of those listeners.
As it stands at the moment the choices in Atlanta are slim. The city could use a show such as his in the afternoon.
As a final point, to those that found his show disagreeable and disgusting, why did you listen? I personally will not listen to someone that I dislike unless he or she has valid points. If you listened to the Kimmer enough to complain about the show then he must have made some points that made you listen on a continuing basis. If the Kimmer was able to get your attention on regular basis so as to make you complain then he was doing his job expertly.
I find the name calling and innuendo by some posters most distasteful. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but name calling just reveals childish behaviour and poor communication skills.
