1/12: Sounds of Faith returns Sunday
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Jim Hutto and James Dickson, who produce Sounds of Faith on Sunday mornings, had lost their 94.9 gig last month when Lite unceremoniously dumped its soft rock format in favor of 94.9/The Bull, a country station.
But there was enough of an outcry from fans of the 34-year-old show that Clear Channel negotiated a new deal with them. The show starts back this Sunday on 94.9. Though Sounds of Faith is cut back to four hours from six (now it’s 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.), it will be mostly the same show as before, a mix of worship music and traditional hymns with a smidge more gospel. “It will be a little more produced, with a few contemporary touches,” said program director Jim Hutto. Clay Hunnicutt, the ooerations manager at Clear Channel, said management decided the church-oriented Sunday morning show was compatible with the new format.

An abbreviated version is nice, but I enjoyed listening to the program before and after church on Sunday. I will stick with other stations gospel offerings (Praise 97.5, Kiss 104, WCLK) and my cd collection.

Wait a minute!!! There’s an outcry over this program and CC puts it back on the air?? What about the outcry over the destruction of WKLS, WGST, WBZY, WLTM and others? Those clowns did not listen to complaints at what they did to those stations. Deskins, Bloomquist and a host of others need to be tossed out of the Building of Death.

So they’re bringing back the program, but it doesn’t mention Allen Kunkle, who we’ve grown to expect to hear with his segments as much as the music, but there’s no mention of him. He was half the show!

Nice to hear that Clear Channel reconsidered one programming flub. I will still continue to boycott Clear Channel stations and encourage others to do so. Will it matter to them? Not a snowball’s chance in Hades. Until the Kimmer, Wayne and Pete are brought back, on ANY station, I’ll continue to listen to sports talk.

There is nothing they can do to bring me back short of undoing all the damage that’s been done. Demographics or whatever, I hope they flop miserably in the upcoming ratings and end up asking customers at their future employment if they would like fries with their hamburger! A pox on CC and their moronic “programming executives(?)!

I was returning by car from Dallas, Texas, and when I thought I’d come within driving range, I turned the channel to WLTM-FM. What a surprise to hear that it had been dumped in favor of a new format that very day. Needless to say, I was heartbroken when I found out it had been cut. I’ve listened to this program since its inception. Although I’m glad it has returned to the air, it isn’t the same without Allen Kunkle. As a fellow believer in Christ, Allen had a sincere heart and ministry through this program that ministered to so many. He is sorely missed and I’m afraid the “spirit” of the program isn’t the same, either. A major loss for Atlanta and its listeners.
