1/9: Fish 10K run, Sounds of Faith update

Kevin Avery, the morning host of 104.7/The Fish, is trying to encourage listeners to stay fit by running 10K every morning this month on a treadmill in the studio from 5:30 a.m. til about 6:30 a.m. He has been running regularly the past three or four years and with a better diet, he has gotten his waist down from 38 inches to 32. Impressive!

I also met today with Clay Hunnicutt, the new operations manager of Clear Channel Atlanta, a post formerly held by Mike Wheeler and Tim Dukes before that. He’s also the new program director of 94.9’/The Bull while keeping his post as vice president of country programming for the entire Clear Channel chain. He also bought a house here in Atlanta, a clear sign that he plans to be around awhile despite the revolving door of execs that have tried to fix Clear Channel Atlanta in recent years.

While keeping most of the conversation in pleasant vagaries, he did say Sounds of Faith should be coming back soon, with some programming modifications, on the 94.9 signal, where it ran on Sunday mornings for 34 years.

He also said there’s a new PD for both 105.3/El Patron and Viva 105.7, who started this week. El Patron will have new on-air staff soon.

And over at the Bull, he hopes to have some on-air staff within the next 30 to 60 days but didn’t provide any clue what he was looking for. He also defended the name the Bull, saying the station (which will be female skewing, 25-54) will be defined by its personality, a station he hopes will be fun and have energy.

Plus, the new 96.7/Lite station, which is on a weak south-skewing signal, will remain jockless for the time being but there is one sales person assigned to Lite and a couple more might be added by midyear.

Who cares about CCU anymore? Atlanta is boycotting that Mexican based station. Go away CCU! You’ve done enough damage to Atlanta as Franklin, Young, Campbell and Jackson!

Hey Who cares - you’re nothing but a racist idiot. Franklin has done more for Atlanta than any other person ever has. No one asked you to stay here - get on your high horse and leave town already.

What a mess. And how sad.

With non-clear channel alternatives for every genre broadcasting in the city, I don’t even bother with them anymore. Why listen to Project when you can listen to X? Why listen to Lite when you have B98.5.? It’s baffling to me why listeners, consumers would continue to support such a pitiful excuse for a corporation.

Clear Channel is taking stations that sort of worked and plowing them under with all of the grace and eloquence of Howard Dean’s Iowa concession speech:

And we’re gonna wreck 96ROCK, and LiteFM, and The Buzz, and then we’re gonna lose tons of money for our shareholders…..

Hey, we need you precious listeners to stay tuned, because this is all just phase one of our master plan to turn all of the stations over to all-talk formats and then we can air nothing but RUSH LIMBAUGH 24/7!!!

That’s right, it’s Rush for Flush, and Flush for Rush!

I love country music, but even more than my country tunes, I love CHRISTMAS! Every year I looked forward to the Christmas season music playing on Peach/Lite 94.9 - it was a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season. The fact that Clear Channel decided to change their format the week before Christmas showed either complete ignorance or arrogance to their listening audience.

So, Clear Channel - you have lost me as a listener across the board - and that means your advertisers have lost my business and money as well.

I hope Mr. Clay Hunnicutt fails miserably in his new position here in Atlanta. I will never turn on a CC radio station nor buy anything from any of their advertisers. I hope he loses his house in foreclosure, loses his job due to his blatant disregard for the Atlanta radio public’s programming wishes and ends up at a fast food place asking customers if they want fries with their order! I’m sick to death of being dumped on by these carpetbaggers who come in and think they know what we want or will support. And, I might add that I’m really surprised that Rodney didn’t take this perfect opportunity to relay exactly how many thousands of listeners here in Atlanta truly deplore what they have done. After all, he’s really our only voice, and he didn’t speak up. Shame on you, Rodney. What do the rest of you think?

I’m no radio exec, but will play one on the blog here. If you are going to target an audience that you label as 24-54 white female, then why would your first act as a new radio station be to p** them off? Who in the hell do they think is listening to the all Christmas music. CC slapped their target audience in the face and then asked them to come back. Whatever! By the way, as the Bull is now, it sucks big time!!Pahtetic, really.

I seriously doubt that this Hunnicutt fellow, or any other “executive” with Clear Channel, reads this or any other blog or cares what is written. However, unless Clear Channel brings back the Kimmer, Wayne, and Pete, I will continue to boycott their radio stations. Actually, I’m starting to get into Boortz, 680 “The Fan” and 790 “The Zone” during the day. And, if I want to listen to Rush, I tune into WMAC 940 in Macon (at least on the southside of Atlanta).
