11/1: No changes at Clear Channel
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The rumors were flying last week about major wholesale changes at the various Clear Channel Atlanta stations (Buzz, Lite, WGST, 96rock), but nothing happened. Here’s the theory: last week, Clear Channel national admitted that they may go private or sell parts of the kingdom. That roiled Wall Street and the likely message to individual markets was: hold tight, don’t add expenses, don’t make any changes until 2007. So for folks who like the status quo, you’ll likely get it the next few weeks. Lite will go Christmas usual, Denny and the Kimmer remain on the air, and ditto with the Buzz format and Randy & Spiff.

If the world is a better place than I think it is, Clear Channel will sell off its assets piece by piece to smaller, independent companies and we’ll get some fresh, new ideas in our market. If things are pretty much as I suspect, they’ll just sell their properties to CBS Radio (i.e. Viacom)and our selection will become even blander.

Wake up wuss’s, Larry Flynt won a Supreme Court case upholding the right of free speech. He had the guts, with cartoon pictures to incinuate that Jerry Falwell had sex with his own mother in an outhouse. Have we’ve as American’s become so pussified that the noise of 2 people taking a dump offends us? God help us it that the next time someone is knocking on our doors to take our freedom away from us you weekies will have some kind of life change and help us save your lives. At this point, if 2 people taking a dump offends you, I don’t won’t you in the foxhole with me. Toughen up, have no doubt that every country would like to take this country away from us. Cannot wait to hear how the wussies will justify any different

Don’t worry, Rodney. One day you’ll learn to practice responsible journalism and not just report one-sided rumors. I believe in you!

No matter what they do at CC it’s like my old grandpappy used to say “it’s like polishing a turd”, pointless. CC is garbage they are going to be the death of testicle radio. And that’s all I have to say about that…

Totally unrelated to today’s entry, but Rodney or anyone, did you happen to hear this morning who is leaving The Bert Show? They put it off until the last minute and I missed it. Was hoping to see a posting here, but haven’t seen anything yet.

Jen Fallon. Good for her. But sorry it isn’t the other Jen. They did not say where she was going, my guess is another radio station where she can soar.

I think it very interesting that Rodney wouldn’t let us post a comment on the Yogi & Panda article, but we can post away on everything else. Look, Clear Channel doesn’t care about the demographic that makes them money. They proved that be firing The Regular Guys and completely changing The Kimmer Show. They might as well change all of their Atlanta stations to target spanish only programming. We don’t want to hear tired old classic rock 24/7 on 96ROCK. They may as well change 96 rocks format back to classical music as it was before it went to a rock format in 1974. If they knew what they were doing they would be able to keep program directors employed by more than a few months at a time. Clear Channel should hire a local program director for Atlanta, that knows what this market wants. Bring back The Regular Guys.

Guess how many times Dummy Shaffer will uttter the phrase “you know” in the nine o clock hour and you’ll be eligble for great prizes including: the afternoon host slot at WGST, ten free sixty second spots on Rush Limbaugh (a $650 value) and my sloppy seconds in the newsroom!

Counting is what I usually do when I encounter a person with a “ya know” or “like” or “uh” speech problem. In my office we have to change the station before 8AM and torture radio begins, but some of us count the “ya knows” when Denny does his little 30 second or so promo with Tom at 7:59 to see who buys the morning Starbucks. I won Wednesday morning with a guess of 5 “ya knows” in 30 seconds. Last year we did it for a lunch and I won with a guess of 19 “ya knows” in a random 60 second period. We tried the “uh’s” a few times, but those are so machine gun like that you can’t get an accurate count. Since they don’t seem to be concerned about his annoying problem, maybe they should have a count the “ya knows” contest, but you’ll need a calculator if it goes more than a minute or so. Or a count the “it’s unbelievable” or “it’s appalling” on the Silly Senile Senior Citizen’s afternoon show. However, they can’t attract listerners from promoting it on there own station, since no one is listing to it now.

Chuck, that show will be edited to remove the painful “ya knows” and “uh” and the remaining 3 minute spot will be played Saturday morning just after the show about herbs to cleanse your colon and before the guy from Nue Yark tells the people in Atlantur all about gardening in November, and just before they turn on the transmitter.
