10/27: Format changes at Clear Channel?

Rumor #1: A few weeks back, I heard Lite 94.9 might go to a dance pop format called “Movin’ ” that would appeal to a much younger female audience with syndicated Whoopi Goldberg as morning host. The only issue I’d have is that Lite has been such a dominant Christmas player that it would make more sense to wait until after Christmas was over to do that.
Rumor #2: WGST might dump the Kimmer and Denny in favor of an all-news format (like WINS-AM or WCBS-AM in New York) except for Rush. (At 12:30 p.m. Friday, I got a hold of the Kimmer, who demurred. “I don’t have a comment about anything nor do I know anything,” he said, with that trademark laugh. “I’m happy to be working and being a proud American. I’m preparing my show as usual. I’ve been here since 7 a.m.”)
Rumor #3: Getting rid of 105.3/The Buzz for regional Mexican music to complement the current Spanish music format at Viva 105.7.
Rumor #4: With the Buzz gone, Clear Channel would move the active rock/alternative rock format over to 96rock.
Some of these changes could happen as soon as Monday the 30th.
Any thoughts, good or bad?

It is about time 96rock went back to being the rebel station it was known for back in the 80s. Get rid of the buzz, how cliche. Me personally, I can’t wait until the Shambodia wars spill over into radio market.

This whole format change possibility for 96rock makes me wonder whether firing the Regular Guys was done strictly as a matter of convenience. Meaning, they concluded that the show was not going to match the direction and demographic they were wanting to take the station in and Yogi and Panda’s lawsuit just made it easy for them to unload TRG. Something about the whole thing just stinks to high heaven.
These rumors that Rodney mentioned make a comment by the Kimmer from a couple of days ago make a lot of sense. He mentioned something about a big change and that it was a very emotional day and that he was an emotional wreck. He never returned to that topic while I was listening, but I expect it may be what he was referring to.
If these rumors are true I wish both the Kimmer all the best and all the success in the world. I wish the same for the Regular Guys crew (Larry, Eric, Andrews, Alfie, etc) I hope they all find radio positions in this market. I am sorry to see the Regular Guys partnership at an end, but I respect Eric’s decision. He has long wanted to go in a more serious direction and I hope it works out for him.

This is disgusting. Why do we need to move the Buzz for another spanish station. They don’t need anymore. If they aren’t going to learn english then they should be deported. If they stay here and won’t learn english then they should be thrown in jail. These Yogi and Panda types sound like a mouthpiece for the invasion being led by Vicente Fox. Can’t you people see. We need to get Yogi and Panda off the air before they ruin radio and the USA forever.

94.9 goes from being a chick channel to being…a chick channel. Big Woo.
Kimmer needs to be put to pasture…Denny is a better fit back in Des Moines or wherever the heck he came from. This would be a better direction for GST…lower cost, higher ratings.
Most of the songs on the Buzz sound like s/w straining to overcome constipation. Some peppy polka TexMex might be a good substitute.
It would totally suck if 96rock turned into a slightly more butch 99X…THERE IS ALMOST NO GOOD ROCK MUSIC RECORDED AFTER 1978. EXCEPT MAYBE A FEW NIRVANA AND PEARL JAM TUNES…AND BUCKCHERRY. And 9 Inch Nails…certainly not enough to program a station with and hold listeners.

WGST an all-news format? I wonder where they propose to get their news from? They outsourced most of their news gathering over the past couple of years like they outsourced their programming.
Why is I can travel to mid-size markets like Knoxville and Nashville and find good stations with a mix of local talkers and national shows and WGST can’t come up with a format that works?
They lost Boortz years ago, but bring back Tom Houck and Tammy Lloyd and give them a local show. And get Joe Zona back doing the weather. They might just be able to re-create their glory days yet.

Perhaps Kimmer was talking about what happened to TRG and what it meant for radio bits. You don’t think they put the clamp on him speaking in harsh tones about illegals after this?
Yogi y Panda are incredibly lame for what they did to TRG but as far as runing radio and the USA forever let’s be real.

Then there is that idiot Cap’n Herb. And don’t forget the world’s greatest meteorologist…..Kirk Mellish. How do these folks hang on? WSB has the most power so therefore they have more listners by default. They are a crappy news station that rarely checks the facts of their reports.Atlanta radio as a whole stinks.

Hmm, seems like Queer Channel can’t get anything right these days. How’s this - fire all the PDS (the ones remaining after suspensions, that is) and start over. They own so many stations nationwide, why not just syndicate a whole station’s format? Oh wait, they already did that. Might as well keep it going here; can’t be much worse than what they already offer. Some stations, however, are established in Atlanta radio and AREN’T going anywhere, like 99X, Kicks, etc. Don’t get used to your CC stations because they’re all ticking time bombs under poor management.

Drudge is reporting that the US Supreme court has decided that 1 minute snippets of Kimmy and 30 second snippets of Denny Schaffer’s show IS torture and can not be used any longer to get terrorist to talk.
