10/23: Regular Guys fired… again (updated)
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I hear the Regular Guys have been fired from 96rock… again. Eric Von Haessler, part of the Regular Guys, confirmed that he was fired “with cause” at 3 p.m. today. They have already been taken off the www.96rock.com Web site..
“We are not going to be issuing a statement today,” said Yogi & Panda’s attorney Jamie Hernan “Clear Channel does appear to have taken the necessary steps to work out a resolution in the case. We anticipate a joint statement being issued in the near future.”
“The Regular Guys were dismissed for inappropriate conduct affecting fellow employees,” Chuck Deskins, the market manager for Clear Channel Atlanta, wrote in an email.
Here’s the link to the story
A CCU employee told me that Deskins has informed staff at Clear Channel Atlanta that if anybody is found to have talked to me, they will be immediately terminated. Deskins said he merely told employees to refer media questions in this case only to him, that he didn’t threaten termination at all.

I’m sure some Clear Channel associates will report anonymously. It would be interesting to hear the gossip going on around that office.

Great…what is Atlanta morning FM radio left with now? 99x morning show?? I’d put a scalding dagger in my eye first.
I hope TRG go to 97.1 the River.
Now Clear Channel is left rotting away in Atlanta with what? the Kimmer?!?!
Boortz reported today that he has tripled the ratings of Rush on 640AM….TRG was the only thing they have left to hold onto in Atlanta.

Damn, Rodney, you are the radio reporter for the AJC and are considered one of the most feared investigative reporters in the city by one of the largest corporations in the United States! People can get fired for talking to you! Congratulations!
Keep up the great reporting! I love it!
TRG’s get fired twice! How stupid can you be?

Normally you could say TRG were better than nothing at all but I don’t think so. Dead air is better.

I travel from GA to SC everyday for work and was an avid TRG listener. I now listen to another TRG they’re called the rise guys in SC. I actually now get up an hour earlier to listen to them. It proves to me that there will be radio life after regular guys. TRG ATL was never the same after they came back from being fired the first time. They were TRG light. Look at (http://theriseguys.com)

gttim- “TRG’s get fired twice! How stupid can you be?”
Well, you could be Crash Clark. Didn’t it take him 3-5 times to finally get the boot? Have some faith, maybe it’s just another Fall Sweeps stunt…

I just love how pathetic radio people are becoming. Instead of handling things themselves and getting even with one another they resort to suing each other. Thanks Barnes for setting this precedence of patheticness…and please don’t sue me for saying that.

Once again, CC shoots itself in the foot.
If the guys at 99x have any semblance of intelligence, they will take advantage of this, and make the Morning X more edgy.
But then, that’s just me.

Well this sucks. I finally move back to Atlanta and they get fired again, over something so stupid and petty. Yes what they did was dumb but firing them? Come on that’s a little harsh. Who cares about the whole mocking thing. Now there is nothing worthwhile and entertaining to listen to on the air.

Finally, we get Classic Rock back in Atlanta. No morning show needed, just Rock music, hence the name 96 Rock. We have had to suffer with TRG far too long. Talk radio needs to remain on the AM Channels.

Can anyone step back and see the big picture? Clear Channel has made big money off bathroom humor and tasteless stunts for years. The Viva announcers are doing far greater damage to the community by encouraging listeners to break the law if they’re illegals, or to encourage Mexicans to cross the border and further drain US taxpayers of dwindling resources.
And now, the same morning show which broadcasts illegal ‘how-to’ tips is actually dumping a showbiz prank into the legal system, all in the name of cultural pride. It is without a doubt a shameless big-money shakedown. Awful that Clear Channel’s giving into this nonsense. It’s always company policy to keep employee matters behind closed doors, or at the very least, offer no response. (Ever hear the phrase, “we don’t comment on internal matters… we don’t discuss employee conduct.”)
Radio people probably remember Chicago where Steve Dahl secretly taped a couple of staffers and played the bits back on the air. A lawsuit ensued. He’s still working. Recently nominated for the Hall of Fame. Has racked up 25+ years of success in the market. The two who were victims are also employed, likely with jobs for life. They’re currently on the air in TX at a CBS station (formerly Infinity of course, and named in the original lawsuit). His company backed him.
I’m angry at the hypocrisy of the Viva morning show. They have encouraged illegal immigration and have gone so far as to instruct listeners on how to survive and prosper as illegal residents, as well as how to defy police orders. These two are not in this country— or in your county— to make America a better place.
But here they are. Running to the courts to rack up a big legal payout. All of a sudden, they like the law of the land. Someone please correct me. Tell me they don’t encourage illegal residents to cross the border, live off taxpayer funds and put their kids through our schools. Please say that when the protests took place earlier this year, they didn’t encourage listeners to support the rally and the numbers of Mexicans who arrive here illegally. Where are Viva’s supposed standup morals? Cultural pride should dictate that jumping the border is against the law, the laws of this very country. Go home or stay away if you can’t follow the law. We’ve been made to support heavy numbers of people here illegally, and to say Americans of all ethnicities are tired of that is not racist. But to file a lawsuit… all of a sudden, the morning show likes playing by the rules of this country. We’re all losing from this type of nonsense. It has to do with morals and ethics and abiding by the rules of a civilized society. It has nothing to do with the color of one’s skin. What a letdown this whole situation is.
Viva should put its efforts into making Mexico a better place to live. Start with Mexico’s corrupt government, dangerous leadership and family and friends who are subjected to filth, disease and rampant poverty. Taxpayers here can’t carry the load… and we shouldn’t have to.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer pair of dingleberries. Bob & Tom were stale, but at least I laughed once in a while. I wouldn’t have even noticed except when I surfed around when I didn’t like the music on 99X- and their new morning show is tolerable, but sometimes it does uncomfortably remind me of that lame radio commercial where the 20-somethings yack about the upcoming TV shows! Now TRG fans can spend their newfound extra time trimming their mullets and waxing their Camaros.
