10/12: Q100 outs Steve McCoy’s real name

Star 94 morning show host Steve McCoy doesn’t use his real name. His real name, though, might be familiar to folks who listen to Q100. For several years, Q100 stunt guy Mark Owens has used the name Phil Terrana. The Bert Show this morning revealed that Phil Terrana is Steve McCoy’s real name. Voila! Inside joke revealed. As a courtesy to McCoy, I kept it to myself all these years, too. Actually, someone noted this in the comments section last week when I reported that Mark Owens is going to be producer for the new Morning X morning show at 99X.
“We jacked with them [Star 94] without jacking them,” host Bert Weiss said.
“I got my start at X. I was doing part time and weekends, doing whatever. I went by Mark. They needed a new producer at Q and a new street guy. No problem. I couldn’t use the same name on both sides. Jeff Dauler was the brainchild behind the name,” Mark/Phil said.
“Now he’s really going to hate me,” referring to McCoy, Dauler said.
Here’s Steve McCoy’s emailed response. He seemed nonchalant about the whole deal:
Actually, I’m flattered that they find that much interest in my name. In all the years on morning radio here…the subject has come up a number of times with listeners calling in and asking. Never tried to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes…..My two son’s have played hockey here since they were 6 and 8,and have had their name on the back of their Jersey for hundreds of games. So people have always asked….I’ve always answered.

It always annoys me when radio stations have to get one up on another radio stations. It’s as if their music or talent can’t stand alone!!

I believe this comes under who gives a flip? So what is Phil gonna do? Sue the guy? Are the listeners gonna call McCoy Terrana now? Who cares? Who even listens to him anymore-the blue heads?

I don’t think it’s a big deal but…Sean Demery “the legend” at 99X his real name is like Herman and Edward. Some blockhead name like that. So it’s a tad interesting that the new 99X producer is involved in this silly little game of name calling

Steve McCoy’s real name (Phil Terrana) is perfectly adequate for a radio name…maybe he was afraid of being pegged as an Italian…I was hoping his real name would be something unbearable like Richard Head or Harvey Finkelstein or Gene Poole or Toma Adopolopolopolous.

DELICIOUS! I just love scandalous radio. So let me get this straight, Bert “screwed” with a guy without screwing with him or really risking anything and the guy he screwed with din’t care. What great radio! I hope Phil…I mean Mark, can bring this type of uneventful content to the new Morning X Zoo Crew. Isn’t whacky radio the best!

Is that really that funny? Maybe it’s more funny than I can actually understand, because that jackass of a person (Phil/Mark)is so damn annoying I could barely ever stand to listen to him. He typifies a jackass that never even went to UGA but thinks he did. Loser!! He sucks and I wish him good riddance. As for the rest of that cast and their listeners, that’s what I hate about that show; they’re a bunch of idiots that think these stupid little things are the funniest bits ever. Where is Stern when you need him?? Please help save Atlanta radio!!!

I agree with Don’s comment above.Most people listening don’t care about these radio wars.But I guess it gives Mr. Ho something to do. Here’s what I don’t like.I listen around to all different radio shows on my drive in…when theres a commercial Im gone.But what I do notice is that Mr Ho has never been very fair to Star 94’s morning show.He likes to bash them,while praising some brilliance by q100. I seem to remember that 99x outed Q one day when they played the tapes of the actors and actresses who do their scam calls,and those fighting couples calls.And,while that stupid college drop out Mark Owens pats himself on the back,I notice Steve and Vicky never retailiated.Thats speaks volumes to me on character. Don’t hundreds of radio people use other names? Sean Demery is not his real name.I doubt everyone on Q is using their real name. Like Jaime Massy passing judgement,when I remember her doing traffic as Jaime Steel for years…Wow what post property glass house do you live in ?

You are so right about Jaime Massey She is quite the liar. I worked at the hotel where Steve’s daughter was married and met Jaime there at the wedding reception. As I recall,the invitations were all in his real name…so I guess Jaime is just a dumb b***!!
