6/9: 1160 going business talk

Jeff Davis, GM of 1160 and 1690, said the music format goes to 1690 (which will keep Al Franken) and he will swap out a business talk format, likely Monday, on 1160. He says this is a unique format in town. It sounds like it will be like CNBC on the radio. Is that a useful format on the AM dial here?

I just don’t get it. Is this just a ruse in negotiating with Air America for leasing 1160? I am going to be in serious withdrawal on Monday morning. At least Franken will be around on 1690, but Atlanta needs a full time AA station, quick.

I hope its just a ruse, and that AA, especially since their founder lives HERE, finds a way to keep it going in Atl…we are way too big a market to only be represented by the right…

Darnit .. I need my goddess of talk radio on my drive home! :( I always said I’d go satellite if they get rid of my station. Guess I’ll have to!

Well, I guess that we need to add Jeff Davis to the ever-GROWING list of IDIOTS of radio management. Who in here believe that “business” talk radio is going to be ENTERTAINING? I guess Mr. Davis is using the brilliant “success” of CNBC’s format to justify such changes. Now may I ask: “Who’s watching CNBC?” Answer: NOBODY. So who will listen to “business” talk radio? Answer: NOBODY. However, who WILL listen to entertaining radio? Answer: ANYBODY (i.e., potential for GROWTH, which it seems that this industry is totally afraid of).

The Atlanta market—there’s NOTHING out there like it. Amazing—again.

I tuned in to AM 1690 this morning and they were keeping the signal warm with an old Bob Dylan tune…off of what sounded like a vinyl LP…how is that going to draw listeners???

Business talk? Can the fill up 3 hour blocks of time talking about interest rates and inflation and investments and hold the attention of Joe Sixpack? Or even avid investors?

I just couldn’t believe it this morning. I loved waking up to Rachel Maddow - very informative. We need to get Air America back on the air in Atlanta!!!!

Okay, I have to say that I still HATE that Air America is gone (tho happy Al Franken is still around, I will miss Rachel Maddow terribly), I think the eclectic format is pretty neat. Just this morning I heard Warren Zevon, some bluegrass, some classical, and the St. Crispin day speech from Henry V. That’s kind of cool.

It’s just too bad that Atlanta seems to be a zero-sum town for interesting radio stations—you can only have one at a time or something.

yeah, I just don’t get it. How an arts station goes to stocks and money, can you figure what politics someone that manages their portfolio obsessively enough to listen to this all day would be?! I did listen to the arts station because it was an eclectic relief from the crap on most stations, but also because I could NOT get Air America in my building! We want Air America and diversity on the radio, not idiot sameness everywhere you go.

I remember a weekend show on 640 called JOBTALK with Margot King. I know she contributes to the ajc on the ajcjobs blog. Any chance she’ll end up on here with her show…it was good when it was localized to ATL….

I am going to miss Air America very much, I listened to it very often. Is it going to be coming back to Atlanta? I really hope so.

Here is a great opportunity to kill WGST and relaunch it as Air America. The are the bottom of the barrel of radio stations… it couldn’t hurt to be a real alternative to WSB.

Air Liberal/Democrat America? What are you people nuts? Oh yes-let’s have Jimmy Carter-the Worst President in the 200+ years of this country and his Democratic Buffoons spout their BS on the radio to fill the heads of the welfare crowd with some BS that the Rich people are keeping them down. Oh BS! Having a Taxocrat in the White House brought us a weak Military, higher interest rates,( Mr. Peanut) debauchery and further Military weakening (see Clinton) and a new rule-oral sex is ok as long as there is no penetration-and now 5th/6th graders are having BJ contests! Great for the guys-but who the hell wants their daughter to come home with a stomach full of c*?! Amazing how these “southern” democrats want to put the fear of God in everyone, but then they appease people like Idi Amin, Arafat and Mugabe. Clinton bombed the former Yugoslavia and Serbia-our WW2 friends because a bunch of Armenian Muslims were being wiped out because they were trying to uprot the Government. Clinton bombed OUR friends. No arab countries came to aid the Armenians-that’s how Arabs are. And you want a radio station to spout liberalism? Gee-why don’t they just come out and say it-give us your votes black people and we will take the military budget and spend it on you so that when the Arabs take over-you can take Arabic lessons and learn how to pray 5 times a day without basketball or football in your life.

War Eagle, you illiterate bastard, how did you find your way here? You don’t belong in this discussion. You are—and always will be—a pathetic, ignorant, disgusting redneck loser. You post so much drivel all over these blogs, I am thinking that you don’t have a job. So you have all the time in the world to write your disjointed inarticulate, confused, crap. Can’t someone teach this bum to read and write?
