6/2: WGCL’s Rich Noonan out in October?

Since i don’t have a place for local TV news, I’m going to place this here:

The Philadelphia Daily News reported that local CBS anchor Rich Noonan’s contract has not be renewed this October. He came to Atlanta’s WGCL-TV in November 2004 from Philadelphia. Noonan, 44, declined to comment to me but did tell the Daily News, “It’s just shocking. I was doing a great job,” He told the paper the station itself recently said he’d been doing a great job and ratings increased every period since he started at the fourth-place station. Station manger Andy Alford confirmed the information Noonan provided but due to policies about discussing personnel departures, he said he couldn’t comment beyond that.

WGCL’s newcast has been a revolving cast of characters for atleast 10 years now. The audience never has a chance to establish a connection with the anchors because they change every year or so. This is unfortunate because their newscast is really, really solid. And they are the only newscast outside of FOX 5 that gives any adequate attention to national and international news.

cbs46will always have a lame news staff as long as they deliver it like stiff sticks. they should actually dump stephanie fisher and keep rich noonan. rich at least comes across with little bit of humor at times.he would pair up good with karyn greer even though it would be a step back for her.also while you’re cleaning “house” move gil tyree out and give it backto mark harmon.

I HAVE TO AGREE - it’s as if WGCL hires contractors for a predetermined amout of time to broadcast the news, and it’s over. I REALLY HATE THIS!!! The person I miss the most is Monica McNeal, the old weather lady. But anyway, I do not know the reason for all of the reoccuring changes at CBS Atlanta and WHY the hell they would keep doing this. I predicted that this would happen back when Noonan first started and I think that it is only time before the whole crew is replaced… SAD STUFF

WGCL has already let Lori Wilson, a fantastic talent along with phenomenal beauty, get away from them, and now they’re going to let Rich Noonan go, too. The man has tremendous respect within the industry, but 46 is hell-bent on being in last place forever.

Oh, and “James”, Monica McNeal is now on CNN weekends from time to time.

Chanel 46’s news has never been that good. Outside of Stephine Fisher, they don’t have anybody.Chanel 5 is where all the good reporters are. I think Lisa Crane is a hottie. I thought Kelly Wolf was a major babe, but she’s not there any more. Does anyone know where she went?

I’m from the NYC area, market #1, but spent some time in atlanta in 2004-2005 interning at CNN to complete credits for Graduate School. It was during this time that I came across WGCL’S newscast, which I thought had structure and came across with compelling stories. Richard Noonan was an excellent anchor and I know was giving WGCL higher ratings, which could have moved them up along the ratings. This station made a wrong choice in letting him go. I know he will wind up in a much better station and market. Good Luck Mr. Noonan, you’re a great Anchor/Journalist and I aspire to be like you one day. We wish you the best luck no matter where you wind up.
