5/19: Internet radio stations

A blogger earlier this week suggested we bring up this topic: what are you favorite Internet-only radio stations?

Being a lover of ’80s, my favorite for years has been flashbackradio.com. You can make requests and they actually play them and they have an extremely deep 80s playlist.

Now your turn!

I’m a huge fan of Paste Magazine’s radio station, found at accuradio.com. And Accuradio has a radio station for just about any genre.

There’s also Pandora.com, which puts together a playlist of music similar to the artist or song of your choice.

I highgly recommend www.kexp.org

It’s a radio station based in Seattle, that mostly plays indie-rock but also has an eclectic mix of rock, hip-hop, bluegrass etc. It’s a public radio station, so it’s commericial free.

From 9am-noon ET, the DJ, “John in the morning” has perhaps the best show on the station.

Air1.com is a good mix of CCM rock/CHR. It is syndicated on lots on FM stations across the country, but unfortunately not in Atlanta, which is a shame because it blows away the boring AC lite stuff on The Fish and J93.

Also CMRadio.com, especially the Modern Rock/Alternative channel.

Does anyone know what happened to XM Radio’s channel 61 “The Flow”? I don’t have XM radio, but my DirecTV offers some XM radio stations as its music channels. The Flow was awesome because you would hear a lot of great soul artists that corporate radio is too narrow minded to play. I miss it!

I am a sports fan and for national info ESPNradion.com is great. Plus two of thier shows are aired in Atlanta so they give Atlanta some attention.

KLIPradio.net - Living in the past radio

9412.com - Classic Rock That Matters

Both classic rock. But KLIP is limited to the 70s and 80s while 9412 has a wider time frame going back to the 60s (and perhaps the 50s even). 9412 has live DJ and when request are made they get played rather quickly. KLIP has no DJs and they take request but request can take an hour or more to be played.

I listen almost exclusively to 97X Vintage (www.woxy.com). They play modern rock (whatever that means now) from 1969 to 1996. While there are no deejays, the website tells the last few songs played. On Memorial Day Weekend they are counting down the “Modern Rock 500.” If you’re home, give it a listen.

The oher stations I listen to are: WXRT-FM from Chicago, Virgin Radio from the UK and my personal Launchcast station from yahoo.

Thanks for opening this thread Rodney…I’m adding some bookmarks as we speak…anyone reading this who digs ‘60’s lounge, exotica, caribbean, brazilian, etc. should check out luxuriamusic.com. Their playlist is very deep and you will always hear something you’ve never heard before.

It’s not “internet-only,” but WCLV in Cleveland, OH plays excellent classical music. Not much atonal junk, and no NPR.
