5/2: Mark/Jimmy one-day sub show
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The WSB-AM Mark Arum/Jimmy Baron one-day sub show just ended after three hours. The pair, who met for the first time Sunday, spent most of the time talking immigration and took a more moderate stance than Chris Krok on the issue. (They are subbing for Krok, who is moving his family from Minneapolis and took a few days off. Krok is back Tuesday night.)
They did end the show at 12:50 a.m. with a few minutes talking about Atlanta radio addressing how Mark didn’t get acknowledged in the Jewish Mafia story in Atlanta Jewish Life magazine about Jewish radio personalities a few months back.
What Mark had to say about Steve Barnes, former 99Xer, now morning host at Dave FM: I met the man only a couple of times. I get along with everybody. There are very few people I don’t get along with. That’s who I am. [But with him] the ego. I worked with Boortz. This guy blew me away.”
Jimmy took the high road: “I don’t want to do it. We did it for a long time. That hatchet’s been buried. It’s like a bad breakup with a wife or girlfriend. At some point, you have to move on. You don’t have the passion to badmouth them anymore.

If I was Chris Krok, I would not bother moving his family down here. He has no busines broadcasting on Am750. Cox would be MUCH better off putting Royal back in that night slot with a more mature producer than Raul. In my mind WSB made a grievous error, but with the current dysfunctional market that Atlanta is, they probably will get away with it. Sorry, I don’t see Krok as the second coming of Boortz. And Mark Arum is one of the most hideous, annoying people on the planet. He must be working for free or begged way too much to have WSB put him on the air.

To put it simply, WSB AM 750, has their top crew, Slade, Melhuish, Boortz, Howard and Hannity, and then you have the Columbia School of Broadcasting rejects: Ted Clark Tony Schiavoni Mark Arum Dave Baker and sometimes Capn Herb and it’s like management is either severely bipolar or WSB believes in the feast or famine route in terms of quality. The latter group being totally unlistenable. They’re almost as awful as Stu Klitenic.

I told you before about Arum. He is a PD kiss a** and a first class back stabber. He has wormed his way in to filling in on CH 2 sports and Chuck and especially Bill H had better watch their backs. At 750 he has totally fooled the boss and the fact that he has no talent doesn’t matter. His true colors will get him in the end, but for now he moves up as he crawls over those he has placed the knives in! I have seen his type for years.

It’s about time WSB broke up its ring of conservative, blabber mouth Rush Limbaugh wannabes and gave a guy like Mark Arum more air time, even if it was only for one night. Arum is to WSB as Matt Schaub is to the Falcons…a great talent not being utilized in his current environment. But it was an odd pairing with Jimmy Baron, I guess it balanced out, with one rising star and one has been. What next, will Calandro be dusted off and put behind the mic next?

Hey Stanz,I have two words for you on your comparison of Arum to Matt Schaub. “Mike Moroski”! Rember what happened when he finally got to play on a regular basis? Expect the same from the no talent Arum. Same goes for Royal. He is great for a comment here or there with Boortz, but when he opened his mouth for more than a moment he was awful.

Edge: You are on absolute FIRE!! I echo all your sentiments. Chris Krock (of sh*t) is a disaster and WSB knows it. They REFUSE to do anything about it, however, because they virtually have NO competition here. Who’s going to give them a remote challenge?
WGST, with Rush and dead air for the other 153 hours (with the only exception being the Braves, when they actually decide to play baseball that day)? I don’t think so.
How about WGKA, the station full of personalities that could put the Anastasia medical profession out of business, especially with a morning show that is the equivalent of taking two Tylenol PM tablets, and chasing it with a cup of Nyquil.
Well, what about WAOK? Okay, stop laughing. I was not serious. That zoo of a station couldn’t get ratings in a mental institution. Well, I might stand corrected on that one because you would need to belong to a mental institution if you claimed to like such garbage. Lorraine (Doctor) White? NOTHING to the conversation. (By the way if she is a doctor, then I’m an astronaut) Rob Wilson (Habla Ingles? Not only no, but HELL no. Shelly (Vontaine) Wynter—his nose is too brown, and the waste material will eventually fall onto the microphone and poison it—he’s the epitome of IRRELEVENT radio. Remember, this is a “conservative” that can’t even handle (the great) Alicia Morgan in a dialogue. “Community Talk”? Wow! That isn’t even good enough for a Section 8 resident. Bev Smith? It can’t get any dumber than this. She is “such” an African Queen, but wouldn’t be found DEAD anywhere in Africa. She hates America so much, but wouldn’t dare leave the continental 48 states, let along move away from here.
Long story short: WSB can make whatever poor programming decisions they want to make, because the other “talk” stations in this town are nowhere on their radar screen, nor does it seem like they want to be.

WAOK is a disgrace to black talk radio…that station is nothing more than a comment line where ignorant people call in, ramble about completely stupid conspiracy theories, and the hosts allow this to happen. Here is an example of what you will hear on this station:
1) “We need to come together as a people”- guess what? it will never happen. 2) A caller spouting all kinds of praises to God, the host, black Atlanta, and everything else for 5 minutes before they get to the point of their call. 3) “Anyone that doesn’t think like me is an idiot”- no room for differing viewpoints 4) Jackleg and crooked preachers as guests because no real newsmakers would even consider coming on the station. 5) “The White man is keeping me down”- no he is not. Get a job and some pride. Lowlife ghetto people. 6) “Cynthia McKinney and Alecia Morgan are my African queens”- corrupt beyaches. never done anything for anyone.

Jerron: I really can’t add too much to your brilliant post, but I must semantically correct one thing: WAOK is a disgrace to TALK RADIO….period. It is “par for the course” concerning “black” talk radio, however. All black talkers operate like WAOK, and this is why NONE of them are successful, NONE of them can get any decent advertisers, and why it’s so difficult for a GOOD talk show host that happens to be black to get a gig in this business. Nobody in this business wants to hire a perceived moron. That’s the overall perception of black talk show hosts. It is sad, but true. That’s why these people would rather hire the Denny Shaffers, and Chris Krocks, because in their minds, even THEY are better than the Lorriane Jock Whites, Shelly Wynters, and Bev Smiths. It’s a shame that they won’t base their hiring decisions on the CHARACTER that the INDIVIDUAL talents that apply rather than RACE.

B.J—What about Herman Cain? He has a time slot at WSB. He is black. He got a job. So what do you have to say about that!
