5/1: Jimmy Baron not SF bound after all
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Jimmy Baron had been considered for a mid-day job at a San Francisco Free FM talk station. According to his blog, the gig isn’t happening because the station decided to go for a cheaper option, a syndicated show out of New York. He said he and the two others (a guy and a gal) are being considered for the afternoon slot.
He, as many people who visit, loved San Francisco but realized that living there would require a major lifestyle change since it’s the most expensive place to live in the country. Of course, if he had gotten the job offer, he and his wife LIsa would have done it.
Here’s an excerpt:
I love the Free FM format and what CBS is doing with it. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and I’m sure I will. But I’ve built my career, market equity, and life in Atlanta and am not unhappy to be staying for now. If another out of town job pops up (one or two already have) I’ll look at it through fresh eyes, but allowing some time for things to happen here in a city I love living in is probably not a bad thing.
For fans of Jimmy Baron, this is good news. Perhaps WGST or some other talk station on the AM dial will give him a chance.

I can’t imagine Jimmy on any other radio station. It’s going to be a major change hearing him on AM instead of his old format.

I say it’s about time. Let’s just hope that if he leaves town, he won’t come back like the other whiner - Barnes did.

Please go, Jimmy. Please go. Your “holier than thou” rhetoric has grown old. You have worn out your 15 seconds…

Atlanta needs quality talent. Jimmy brings a unique perspective and talk radio will be a great outlet for him. Everyone should give him a chance to prove himself.

Barnes never really left town. He faked his own “death” so to speak.

Jimmy was a lamer and the sooner they get rid of all of their morning dj chatter the sooner they can go up in the ratings…they could lower their costs by having an $8/hour technician make sure the power button is still green on the computer that has the stored tunes, dump their irritating “radio personalities” and get better ratings and more ad revenue. A change in song format would be great as well, but that may be too much to hope for.

Say what you want about Jimmy but anytime someone has people talking about his employment(?) he obviously impacted Atlanta Radio. Good or Bad, there was still an impact!!!

Baron, I better not catch you snooping around my windows. Once was enough. - Tom

It’s amusing that Jimmy still thinks he’s worth $315k a year. Good luck landing a gig at that salary pinhead! When potential employers see how 99X’s ratings sank like a stone, you’ll be damned lucky to get a $150k offer like Cumulus was dangling. It’ll be interesting to see where you wind up after 6 months of getting b***-slapped by reality.

no DJ radio is fantastic-Wish Star 94 would consider it as well as some of these “hippity hop” stations. the DJ’s blather and blather-make no sense other than to kill time. More music-less repeats like V103-the People’s repeat station every three hours-same damn song and they are starting to all sound the same-whiney! Take off Steve and Vickie and watch ratings soar.
