DYLAN SHALL BE FREE TO ROAM THE OCEANS
Dylan, the loggerhead sea turtle that’s been flapping his flippers at visitors to the Georgia Aquarium, is about to wave goodbye. He’s heading to coastal Georgia, and from there to his natural home in the deep.
The turtle, about 7 years old, is scheduled to leave the aquarium this morning for the George Sea Turtle Center at Jekyll Island. He’ll be the first turtle at the center to be prepared for life in the Atlantic Ocean, his native habitat.
Dylan’s return to the coast marks a full circle for the Caretta caretta. He was a hatchling, a straggler rescued on Jekyll Island seven years ago. He stayed at the Tidelands Nature Center, but soon outgrew its tanks. The Georgia Aquarium offered him some temporary digs at its Georgia Explorer exhibit.
Now, the turtle is about 20 inches long, meaning he’s ready to go back to Jekyll Island. The center hopes to release the turtle sometime this summer. He’ll be equipped with a transmitter so center employees can chart his movements.
The center officially opens its doors June 16.
A GREAT ‘DEBATE’ FOR ‘BATTLE’ ACTOR
“Peachtree Battle” reps tell us that the actor Justice Leak, who portrays Holcombe Habersham in the never-ending, er, long-running show will leave the production in June for another gig. Leak has been cast in the upcoming big-screen flick “The Great Debaters,” starring Academy Award winners Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. Filming will take place in Boston.
According to “Battle” rep Kyle Barnette, the film, also directed by Washington, “is a drama based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College in Texas. In 1935, he inspired students to form the school’s first debate team, which went on to challenge Harvard in the national championship. The film, being produced by Oprah Winfrey’s production company, Harpo Films, is scheduled for a 2008 release.”
“Peachtree Battle” creators John Gibson and Anthony Morris in a statement told us: “We are thrilled for Justice. This is a well-deserved opportunity.”
OVERSCENE
Reality TV two-fer J.P. Calderon of “Survivor: Cook Islands” and “the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency” dining and raving about the macaroni and cheese and Jack Daniels ice cream at TWO Urban Licks. The male model was in town for a nightclub appearance/public ogling session at WETbar. It could not immediately be determined whether Calderon managed to patronize any other local businesses with a portion of their names in all CAPITAL LETTERS while in the ATL.
USA Today reports that Atlantans Jermaine Dupri, Janet Jackson, Usher and Whitney Houston were among the celebs at the launch of Paradise Island, the latest Atlantis resort in the Bahamas over the weekend.

STORK REPORT
It’s a girl!
Trump Towers Atlanta developer Donald Trump became a grandfather over the weekend, 14 months after he became a dad all over again.
The baby girl, Kai Madison, was born to Donald Trump Jr. and his wife, Vanessa, both 29, on Saturday in New York, according to published reports. She weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces, the reports said.
Donald Trump Jr. told People magazine from the hospital that he is getting used to the idea of being a father. “Everyone’s great,” he said.
He said the girl’s name comes from her maternal grandfather, a Danish musician.
Oddly, little Kai will get to grow up alongside her uncle Barron, born to her grandfather and his third wife, Melania, in 2006.
The elder Trump told the New York Post that being a granddad was “terrific.”
“Well, it’s not something I had necessarily in mind, but it feels very nice,” he said.
At presstime Monday, Rosie O’Donnell’s gift had yet to arrive …
