An old problem returns for Bobby Brown

On Tuesday, just for kicks, we typed the words “Bobby Brown” and “nonpayment of child support” into the Buzz Central database to see precisely how many times we’ve written about that topic in the past five years. We came up with seven.

Make that eight.

In Massachusetts, Norfolk Probate and Family Court Judge Paula Carey once again has ordered the Alpharetta-based singer arrested if he steps foot in her state after Brown failed to show for a hearing Monday over delinquent child-support payments.

Phaedra Parks, Brown’s Atlanta attorney, explained to The Associated Press that it’s a “very difficult time” for Brown, 37, whose Grimms’ fairy tale marriage to Whitney Houston is coming to an end. She filed for a legal separation last month.

“Whether or not he’s going through a divorce doesn’t negate the fact that he still owes child support relative to his two children that he had prior to his marriage,” Carey said.

Kim Ward, the mother of two of Brown’s children, daughter LaPrincia and son Bobby Jr. (both of whom were prominently featured on the reality series “Being Bobby Brown”), says Brown owes two months’ support, or $11,000.

In June 2004, Brown was sentenced to 90 days in prison for missing three months of payments. That sentence was immediately suspended after Brown made back payments totaling about $15,000.

“It’s just a very difficult time for him, as you can well imagine,” Parks said. “It’s unfortunate we find ourselves back in Boston on this matter.”

In September of last year, Brown assured Carey that he was up to date with his monthly child-support payments and contributions to his children’s educational fund. Carey admonished the singer, calling his earlier excuses “unacceptable.” Carey had issued a warrant for Brown’s arrest in June 2005 after he failed to appear for a compliance hearing. Brown had claimed a stomach virus prevented him from attending that hearing. In 2004, the singer was jailed twice for nonpayment.

We rang Parks on Tuesday to inquire about her client’s plans to address the outstanding payments. At deadline, we were still awaiting an answer.

Rosie-Elisabeth: Round One

Well, it took weeks longer than we would have expected, but the first official live smackdown between new co-workers Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck finally happened on “The View” Tuesday. Alas for Hasselbeck, against the backdrop of Monday’s Amish schoolhouse murders, the conservative ex-“Survivor” bug-eater’s defense of the right to bear arms was perhaps ill-timed.

When O’Donnell raised the topic of the grisly murders by a crazed gunman, Hasselbeck loudly countered: “It’s a constitutional right to bear arms.” O’Donnell snapped back: “Let’s talk instead of yelling.” Hasselbeck replied: “Why does everyone always think I’m yelling?!”

She then went on to ramble about guns helping to protect minorities during segregation “against racist officers.” (All together now: What?) O’Donnell delivered the knockout punch when she stated: “Bottom line is, if that guy didn’t have a gun, those adult women in that schoolhouse never would have left those children alone with him.” The studio audience applauded wildly.

Great Pumpkin checks in

The lobby inside the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Cobb County gets a little less roomy this time of year. We received word Tuesday that the hotel’s annual Great Pumpkin has been selected and arrived in the metro area Monday.

Hotel rep Lisa Hester informs Buzz that this year’s overgrown gourd weighs in at more than 900 pounds. It was raised by a Canadian farmer who took to nourishing the inflated fruit with milk to help increase its size.

The Great Pumpkin should be in the hotel lobby today. Look quick. In mid-November, the over-sized orb gets carved up to make hundreds of pies for local families in need.

A homecoming for Valentino

Well, look at what that flirt Bobby Valentino has become. The R&B singer will be part of the homecoming concert at his alma mater, Clark Atlanta University. It wasn’t that long ago that the mass communications major was earning the attention of the instructors — and causing a little havoc with the female students.

“What I knew about Bobby is that he was in the talent shows,” CAU radio TV and film instructor Andrew Will told Buzz. “He was the type of person that had the personality and energy to actually make it. He was always around, sitting in my office, joking. And he was that ‘player’ type, in a sense. The female students used to say ‘Bobby always hits on me.’ At the same time, he did get his work done.”

Now, Valentino has enjoyed a No. 1 single (“Slow Down”) and has a sophomore CD due in stores Nov. 14. “Oh I’m sure the reaction will be a little different,” the vocalist said slyly. “I’ve always dreamed of doing something like this. And I’m going to have a lot of fun. When I was in school, there was a lot of rap concerts during homecoming. I’m glad they decided to let a singer in the mix. Their own singer.”

Valentino will join Yung Joc, Disturbing Tha Peace labelmate Shareefa and others tonight at Panther Stadium.
