Elton John wants to rock New York Fashion Week
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Part-time Peachtree Road resident Elton John is gearing up for a busy fall. In addition to the upcoming release of his and longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin’s new album, “The Captain and the Kid,” the long-awaited sequel to “Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy,” the singer will also turn fashion curator this fall.
Not only will the pop star perform at the third Fashion Rocks concert, he’ll get to put his distinctive fashion sense to work. The event will kick off New York Fashion Week in September. Proceeds will benefit his AIDS foundation.
The concert will be Sept. 7 at Radio City Music Hall. A two-hour special will air the following evening at 9 on CBS.
Performers will include Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, the Black Eyed Peas, Jamie Foxx, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Nelly Furtado, Daddy Yankee, the Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna and Scissor Sisters.
Fashion segments will be included in the show.
“Fashion and music have always been inextricably linked,” said Richard D. Beckman, president of Condé Nast Media Group and an executive producer of the show, in a statement Thursday. “People will never forget the day the Beatles walked off the plane, David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, John Travolta strutting in ‘Saturday Night Fever’ or Madonna as the ‘Material Girl.’ “
“Today, the worlds of fashion and music are merging faster than ever, with multiple artists including Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z capitalizing on this synergy by launching fashion lines of their own,” he said.
According to Billboard, John has also contributed a vocal to “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ ” the lead-off single from the Scissor Sisters’ new album, “Ta-Dah,” due out Sept. 26.
Stork report
Danielle Spencer, wife of Oscar-winning, phone-slinging actor Russell Crowe, gave birth Friday to the couple’s second child.
Tennyson Spencer Crowe was born at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, weighing about 8 pounds, said Crowe’s Australian manager, Grant Vandenberg.
“Mother, father and baby are doing extremely well,” he said.
It is the second child for the celebrity couple and a brother for 2-year-old Charlie.
Crowe — who won an Oscar for the 2000 film “Gladiator” — married Spencer in a star-studded Australian wedding in 2003.
The 42-year-old actor has said fatherhood changed his life.
“I’m very involved in being a dad,” Crowe told TV show “Entertainment Tonight” in May 2005. “My days, if they start in the morning with a cuddle from my son, are just so much more glorious than they were prior to that.”
Buzz readers will recall that Crowe made headlines last year when he was arrested for throwing a phone at a New York hotel concierge. He pleaded guilty to third-degree assault last November and was sentenced to a conditional discharge, meaning he must not get arrested for one year.

Journey will have a new lead singer on its summer tour with Def Leppard while Steve Augeri recovers from a chronic throat infection.
Jeff Scott Soto, who has performed with Journey guitarist Neal Schon, was to step in for Augeri starting with last night’s show in Bristow, Va.
“Steve’s been suffering with an acute throat condition since before we kicked off the tour with Def Leppard. We were hoping he’d be in well condition to handle the rigors of the road, but unfortunately it appears to be a chronic condition requiring total voice rest,” the band said in a statement Thursday.
Augeri’s doctor will monitor his condition to determine when he may be able to rejoin the tour. Alas, as it stands, chances are good that ticket-holders for the sold-out show booked for July 13 at Chastain will have to settle for the replacement to Steve Agueri’s replacement of original Journey singer Steve Perry.
