Do you agree with the Oscar noms?

“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” walked away with 13 Oscar nominations, including best picture and actor nods for Taraji P. Henson and Brad Pitt. Director David Fincher is also up for an award.

Joining “Benjamin Button” in the Best Picture category are “Milk,” “Frost/Nixon,” “The Reader” and the highly acclaimed “Slumdog Millionaire.”

The Dark Knight should have been nominated for Best Picture.

Great to see the Academy recognized Downey’s performance, even though it was in a comedy. One of the funniest characters I’ve ever seen. Surely he’ll lose to Ledger; but I’m not sure he should. Would be a more interesting race if Ledger were alive.

I felt that The Dark Knight got snubbed (even with 8 nominations). No best picture, director, or screenplay? I felt it was more qualified than The Reader (which was a good film though).

Also, no Bruce Springsteen nomination for The Wrestler? A huge snub. I also thought Clint Eastwood’s song from Gran Torino deserved a nomination as well.

And no Kristin Scott Thomas for I’ve Loved You So Long?

All in all the nominations were decent, but I can’t say the Academy is looking so great right now.

But, the one I was glad to see which was well deserved was Richard Jenkins for The Visitor!

WHAAAA!

Gran Torino was one of the BEST flicks I’ve seen in years! Clint deserved it for BOTH Best Actor & Director!!!!!

GRAN TORINO was possibly the best movie I have seen since The Green Mile, Shawshank … IT’s that good.

Clint was robbed…

The Dark Knight was just an average Comic Book movie. Heath Ledger was awesome but the film just wasn’t academy worthy.

My 2cents.

I’m extremely happy Richard Jenkins got a Best Actor Oscar nomination for “The Visitor”. Go see this movie if you have not already!

Also, I think The Dark Knight got snubbed. I know the Academy frowns on box office success, but how can you not nominate that film. Christopher Nolan is arguably the best director out right now. And, he’s only 39!! He’s singlehandly rejuvenated the Batman franchise. His body of work outside of Batman includes Memento (snub #1 for best orginal screenplay, editing, and best director), The Prestige, and Insomnia. Consider that the last Batman movie pre-Nolan had tight nipple and butt shots, leather capes, horrid acting by the Govenator and was more about selling toys than storytelling. It’s a real shame. You never seem to win for the film you actually deserve. Denzel doesn’t win with Malcolm X, but gets the nod for Training Day. Russell Crowe doesn’t win for the Insider but wins for Gladiator. LOTR doesn’t win until Return of the King when Fellowship was arguably better. It is what it is…

Woody Allen should have been nominated for his screenplay for “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”. It’s his best film in years. And the director of photography for that film should have also been nominated. Javier Bardem was also excellent in that film.

Kristin Scott Thomas should have been nominated for “I’ve Loved You So Long”. It’s the best performance I’ve ever seen her give.

I’m a little surprised that the movie version of “Horton Hears a Who” was not nominated for Best Animated Film.

I have not seen “Benjamin Button”, but considering the things that some say about it, I’m surprised it got 13 nominations.

Gran Torino was a great movie and should have been recognized as such. Clint Eastwood was snubbed but hey the Academy has done that to him his entire life just like they did to John Wayne. What a joke.

The Dark Knight got ROBBED. Christopher Nolan should’ve gotten a nom for best director…seriously. And it definitely should’ve gotten a nom for best picture. Yay for Heath Ledger’s nomination, though!! =)

Gran Torino was a fantastic movie! Eastwood depicted many of the attitudes and feelings of older Americans who fought for our country. They see a younger generation who has no respect for them or any authority. Of course, the movie was not Politically Correct for Hollywood and therefore was Snubbed. Sadly, Eastwood is in his last years of acting and directing and should have been at least nominated.

Benjamin Button was a good movie, but I just hope we don’t have the “Titanic” effect where one movie wins all the major awards. Especially best actor, no offense to Pitt but I saw all of but one of those movies and maybe you could sub him with Eastwood for Torino or Leo in Rev Road. Frank Langella hands down just an amazing performance as Nixon. Rourke and Penn are great too. I did not see The Visitor yet (waiting on DVD).

Revolutionary Road was a huge snub. Leo, Winslet, and Sam Mendes derserved some credit for their work…perhaps too dark or depressing for Academy. I do agree with the others on Christopher Nolan on Dark Knight. Amazing job with a demanding (Oldman, Bale) cast! He brought out the best in all of those guys- especially Ledger.

Appreciate this years crop of movies though because there are several to choose from…….Wrestler, Frost/Nixon, Milk, Doubt, Slumdog, Reader all do deserve the credit. In other words, nothing bad playing at Tara right now!
